  • Artist: Noel Watson
  • From: Cardiff
  • Style / influences:
All sorts really - lots of metal and jazz initially when I was a kid, then blues n ambient n post rock then jungle and broken beat and more recently Latin and blast beats
  • What he plays:
    Drumset and occasionally Latin percussion
  • Been going since: I started drumming back back in the early 80's - hence the big hair
  • Where he's played: The ICA, Reading Fest, The Camden Toilet Circuit, Llangollen International Eisteddfodd, many bland but friendly festivals in Europe, lots of marquees in the back gardens of large houses, the UK rock circuit, Brecon Jazz, lots of jazz/blues clubs/theatres, St David's Hall, The Garage, FA Cup Final blah blah blah but most of all my garage/studio
  • Favourite local venue: The Point cos u feel like you're giving a sermon, St David's Hall cos u know you've made it ;-) Hayes Island snack bar
  • Songs he covers: Done millions - depends on the gig - enjoyed doing Beastie boys - Sure Shot, Song For My Father - Horace Silver, Post Mortem - Slayer, Meters - Cissy Strut, SR Vaughan - Cold Shot, also enjoyed doing Santana/Steely Dan/Jimi Hendrix tributes
  • Recordings available: Peter Boam (Sony), Perfect Day 2000 (BBC), Russ Gabriel (Out Of The Loop), Bugz in the Attic (R&S), Snipper (Double Plus), Insides (4AD/Third Stone), Paul Roberts etc etc
  • Best moment so far: Getting married, wrote a book on jungle beats/breaks, first drum clinic etc etc

  • Favourite other local bands: Budgie, The Icon Jazzmen, GLC, whoever does the listings in Buzz
