A collection of photographs taken by Robert Haines in 1971-2
recording the unique characters that inhabited his birthplace
of Heolgerrig and nearby Merthyr Tydfil. Haines aimed to
preserve the older characters as the rural village feel was
lost, mines began closing and younger generations moved on.
These portraits are being exhibited for the first time by the
Light House Gallery in Wolverhampton from 20 March to
9 May 2008 and are published in an accompanying book.
