Best advice: Join a gym. I wish I'd done this years ago! I've made friends as well as losing weight.
When I realised that I was bigger than my father, I knew I had to make changes!
I had given up smoking for health reasons and as a result my weight increased to 17st 10lb. I knew I had to join a gym.
At first, I was absolutely hopeless at everything but I wanted to do something to change my life so I persevered. I was given a basic programme to encourage me.
I found it very hard but I made it to the gym five or six times a week as I was determined. I really enjoy the spinning classes and found it really worked!
Within a month or two, I could see a change which really inspired me to go on. I set myself a programme with achievable goals.
I cut out fatty foods but didn't have a definite diet plan. I also cut down from 10 cups of coffee a day to one.
The weight came off gradually and it hasn't been as hard or as horrific as I imagined.

Impressive and most encouraging. I have your previous weight and reading your story truly encouraged me.

I agree, the key to success is to make friends. It's easier to train with a partner or have a joke with your friends in the gym. Most people train over the summer months and then drift off. Fitness is about training throughout the year. Take it slow and build up gradually. I've been training for about five years and had no serious injury - touch wood.

Massey is my dad and my two brothers and I are very proud of him for all his hard work- the effort he has put in was definitely worth it!
