We've honoured employers and colleagues who encourage others to lead a healthier lifestyle.
See some photos of the winnersThe winners in Wales chosen by a panel of experts including Olympic hero Colin Jackson were the following:
Cardiff City Council (joint winner)
Healthiest Large Employer
Cardiff Council has adopted a comprehensive approach to improving the wellbeing of its staff. Employees are offered discounted yoga, Pilates, weight-watching classes and health checks, such as blood pressure and cholesterol testing. It has a particular focus on its catering, with all main meals prepared from raw ingredients. Vegetables are steamed without added salt, chips are thick cut, semi-skimmed milk is used to prepare desserts, and there's a salad bar with 15 options a day.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (joint winner)
Healthiest Large Employer
The council holds health days covering subjects such as stress and dieting. Medical screening for blood pressure and cholesterol is provided, along with advice from holistic therapists. Other activities have included a stair-climbing challenge with a prize for the first to have reached 'Everest'. The council is also negotiating to have only healthy snacks, fruit juice and water in its vending machines.
Glamorgan & Gwent Housing Association
Most Improved
In the course of a year, the association has introduced a new health policy, stress management training and a health roadshow for staff. A focus group has been developed to try and identify and tackle the causes of stress within the workplace, and a healthy eating scheme was started in October.
Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association
Healthiest Small Employer
Staff enjoy subsidised or free gym membership as well as complimentary therapies. Healthy eating involves a group meeting on a regular basis to weigh-in and to provide mutual support. So far, three members of staff have lost significant amounts of weight. Screening has made people more aware of high cholesterol levels and led to changes in eating and exercising habits.
Jason Statham, Training Officer, Land Registry
Unsung Hero (pictured above)
Jason persuaded his work mates to go running with him in a bid to lose weight and get fit. He has completed a series of handicap races which allow runners of all abilities, and has obtained sponsorship for trophies. He also has a relay team involved in charity marathons, and the office has a cross-country team that competes in Land Registry events. His colleagues say that his activities have led to a running revolution in the office and people have become a lot fitter. "He's someone who's very good at organising things and gearing people up to take part."
