The restaurant yard is where Rose and the Doctor end up after running away from a rampaging plastic-Mickey in the restaurant. However, it's a dead end - except for a rather handy blue police box standing prominently in the yard.
In reality, the yard isn't behind a restaurant but behind Cardiff Royal Infirmary - a mile away from where the restaurant scene was shot. This is what it looks like by day, when there isn't a BBC Doctor Who crew surrounding it.
But when the crew moves in, the set is dressed and becomes the backdrop for Rose's escape from Mickey-chisel-hands.
