Sheep at Lower Glyn Farm, Llanishen, enjoy the vigilant support of four furry midwives. The male alpacas, temporarily 'resting' while their females await summer babies, are used each year to guard the ewes when they are lambing.
Amanda says: "To the best of my knowledge we have never
lost a lamb to a fox. In their native environment, alpacas
surround a birthing mother and stay with her for a few
hours. Our boys are clearly following their genetic roots
and providing the same protection to the sheep."
