Listen to Michelle (Need help?)I've lived here eleven years. When I first moved here I didn't know anybody. I moved down here with a young child - she was two. Within weeks just by walking to Tesco I got to know people. Everybody's really friendly, everyone wants to talk to you. You can be home all day, go to the shops, and you're there half an hour just talking to people. I do really like it round here.
I'd like to see a better link between St Mellons and Llanrumney. It's not that far, but it's not on the bus route. Llanrumney is where the local leisure centre is, but you can't catch a bus there and it's a bit too far to walk. The reason why I think St Mellons hasn't got these things is because they say there's one locally, but at the moment you have to get a bus from here, go in to central, and get another bus out. There's no link at all.
They don't do links like that though do they? It's always one route to town and then back out. There's lots of areas where you can't cut across. I mean, there's Pentwyn where they've got ASDA and another leisure centre in Pontprennau. There's no bus link from here to there.
In the car, it's five minutes to Pentwyn. To get there on a a bus, it's in to town and back out. It can be forty minutes in to town on a bus, and forty minutes the other way. All the leisure centres have free swimming for the children in their holidays, but it's getting them there.
I do hear a lot of people round here have trouble with the kids. Obviously the kids are roaming on the streets because they have nothing to do. I think they have trouble with them because of the way they speak to them. They'll go out there and they'll shout and scream at them and give them abuse, and they'll just get it back.
I don't have any problem with any of the children or the young adults round here. I get on with them fine, but I think that's because I've known a lot of them when they were small, and I've watched them grow up. I respect them and they respect me.

I'm with you about the buses. I've got plenty of friends / family in Llanrumney and St Mellons. As I don't drive its a major mission and very time consuming to get two buses. As you say it's only 5 minutes in the car, crazy!

Hi this is the first time I've seen this website and I think it's great. I have lived in St Mellons since 1981 and brought 3 children up there the only complaint I've had in the past is the lack of a proper shopping centre and bus links to Llanrumney (my mum still lives there) Tesco is now the only store and people without a car do not have a choice - and I've always felt they don't give anything back to the community. St Mellons has always been rubbished in the past but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Cardiff except maybe Llanrumney because I was brought up there. I am currently living in Bangkok but return home every few months, because it will always be home to me. Every estate has trouble with kids, but the kids from 20 odd years ago have grown up just fine and the majority of them still live in or around the area with families of their own now, so if you are worried about kids, don't, they grow up!

I agree with Michelle - there is no link from Llanrumney/St Mellons to Pontprennau/Pentwyn etc! Why isn't there a circle bus that goes around areas in Cardiff like London has the tube circle? We are in need of the bus circle, this would cut car traffic down, then perhaps people would stop driving as much! Also transport needs to be cheap and clean buses as they are in Italy & Spain, they have succsessful transportation as a result!Plus when they built Pontprennau why did the council/goverment not think of linking the train station from Lisvane around to Rover Way (where the train track already heads to London) St Mellons and back into town, this would have been ideal! East side of Cardiff are lacking in train services also!

I have lived here 16 years. We don't need a leisure centre here as there is one only 3 miles away. It's a short walk to Newport Road where there is a direct bus route. We can't have leisure centres every two miles throughout the city. Imagine the additional cost to our council tax! With all the obese kids, a short walk to the village to get the bus would do them good.

There is now a fab bus service available mon - fri. It's the 101& 102. It runs from St Mellons all the way to the Heath hospital. I used it the other day to go to Llanrumney. It also goes via Albany Rto the Heath hospital. They run hourly and its a truly amazing service!! Good on you cardiff bus!!

Michelle, do you know that there is an Asda free bus? But I'm not too certain where exactly it goes before it goes to Asda! I see it go around Llanrumney Avenue and back up Newport Road towards the White Hart pub. Perhaps it could be of benefit to you?

I totally agree with Michelle! I moved from St. Mellons to Pontprennau two weeks ago, but i still go to Coleg Glan Hafren in Trowbridge. I am currently working at Tesco St. Mellons to, but I am finding transport almost impossible as, being only 16, I can't yet drive! There is one bus a day from Pontprennau direct to the college at 8am and one back from there at 4pm, but once a day is really not that much use to be honest when I have to travel back and forth between St. Mellons and Pontprennau a lot! I definitely think this is one issue that needs to be dealt with and I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this!
