Listen to Clifford (Need help?)I've lived here for ten years. There is nowhere near enough facilities for the children. We desperately need a social club out here with the facilities to help the young people in the area. They're very special children that are sports orientated, and yet there are no facilities out here to bring it out of them and keep them off the street corners.
We have a community centre but it'd never cater for all the children of St Mellons. I mean when you consider the new houses being built up here now, more and more and more with no facilities for the youngsters - it's disgraceful.
We have a committee up here for Hafod Housing and whatever. They're trying their best, but it all comes down to money.
What I would want in this community is enough money to keep the kids off the corners, give them a prospect in life, give them a chance to have a skill, give them a chance to have the amenities that a lot of other children in the city got and most of them on these housing association estates haven't got.
It's got to be spent up here, it's got to be spent, because the area's just deteriorating. They're not considering what effect it's going to have when these children start growing up.
Nobody can write a blank cheque, but we're depriving a lot of children of the proper things that they could have which would make their lives a lot easier up here.

St Mellons is not a nice place to live. Every night you have kids shouting and screaming outside your house. Everyone knows your buisness and you're trapped. If you wanted to move or better yourself it's virtually impossible.

I live in St Mellons and I think that it is pretty boring. Being a teenager I unnderstand why all of my peers are getting into so much trouble. We definitely need more facilities. Come on, St Mellons people - let's work together.

I have photos for the area as I'm putting a St Mellons site up on the web where residents can register and discuss issues etc, the site is www.stmellons.org.uk

Barratts are building near the water treatment works which is near Heritage Park and Bishop Child's School. That is a nice little spot, although it does get rather smelly in that area because of the treatment works at certain points so I would have a little snoop. I would be worried about the water treatment works as they were doing some work there once and a house exploded on Heritage Park so I would have a look into that side and see what Barratt have to say. I believe because of some works being done underground it happened - house was near 168 Heritage park! I would also worry about the houses which are being built near the back end of that site near the Council Estate - just in case the few naughty ones that are about in St Mellons jump over the garden wall or cause havoc. That location is great for Bishop Child's School which is probably the best school for 4years 11 and is the feed in school for St Teilos. All new houses have a tendency to have youths loitering simply because new houses attract attention and new items such as tv's etc etc. The Sales Negotiator there will be really helpful.
There is another new housing spot which is near the job centre section - I would avoid that one personally as it really is in the depths of housing association and I would worry about re-sale in future but if you are a first time buyer you have to start somewhere and St Mellons is an excellent spot for all your links and the bus service is super!

Having recently moved to the area, what is the best way to get to know people and make new friends? Is it safe to walk through the footpaths after dark? What is all the stone throwing about - why do people do it?

Well the area isn't that bad but the prices don't reflect the fact they are being built near the waste line or the fact the people from the housing estate will come through there to get to the shops or pub. It's much quieter opposite. I've lived here for 25 years and have never had a problem but I wouldn't pay those prices for that particular site.
We have many many houses being built but no more schools, shops or amenities in the area.

Can anyone tell me what the area by the football hall, job centre and water treatments is like? The new Barrats homes are being built on the grass by there. I need to know the area better!
