    Luke Elford, London
How much does a place cost round there? I'll move in - Luke Elford in Elford Road will confuse the hell out of the postmen.

Jeanette Cullinane nee Gilligan Glyndwr Road
I lived in Glyndwr Road Ely with my two sisters, Cynthia and Judy and two younger brothers Jimmy and Andrew Gilligan. I have great memories of my childhood, playing over the fields and down Plymouth Woods, swimming in the river and walking to St Fagans in all kinds of weather, we'd have some jam samwiches and a bottle of pop and off we'e go for most of the day. The fun we had building dens with the cut grass from Bob Dawsons fields, eating the blackberries and hazelnuts. I left in 1968 when I married and emigrated to New Zealand. My parents still live in the same house we grew up in. It's a bit smarter than it was and is no longer a 'Council' house. I went to Windsor Clive School on Grand Ave and left approx 1965/6.

    Don Wilkinson, Cheshire
I lived at 31 TyCoch Road from 1950 to 1962 (when we moved to Pentrebane). Fascinating to see Elford Road - we used to walk through there on our way to Windsor Clive School - Elford Road hasn't changed much - except for cars parked where there used to be just one or two in each road. I have not been back there for many years and was saddened to see the comments from Tony Pearson - maybe I won't bother to go back, and just live with my memories...

    Charlie Butler, Rainham Kent
I too lived in Elford Road between I think 1965 to 1968 with my parents. I remember the house having a large garden that backed onto Windsor Clive School and I was able to take a short cut to school through the gate at the bottom of our neighbour's garden.

I used to live in Elford Road from the age of 10 to 16. I was just wondering if anyone knows me - it was in 1965 :)

    Tony Pearson from Cwmbran
I was born in Stanway Road, Ely in 1948 - eldest son of Tom and Helen Pearson. It was a good place to have grown up in. I married a local girl Stephanie Moseley in 1970, and we eventually moved away to Cwmbran where we still live today. I have many fond memories of the area but on a recent visit I was shocked to see so much has changed. All the local shops at the top of Wilson Road are demolished. Lots of empty and apparently derelict houses, abandoned cars and large groups of youths. It felt quite intimidating, but on the bright side it was good to see the West End club doing well. In my next visit I may pop in for a quick one.

    Brinley Davies. Penarth
I was born in number 39 Elford Road in March 1927, 2nd son of Charles and Gladys Davies. My elder brother was Eric and I have two sisters, Corris and June. My sisters and I often wonder if there are any of the families from the 1930-40s still alive. I was sad to read of the bad things that have happened in Ely since the last war; I have only the best memories of my childhood in Elford Road, and often think of those friends and neighbours such as; Arthur Cheeseman; Cyril Price: Dennis Beer; Roy Phillips, and others whose names are now lost to my memory. I must include the girls as well, whose names once again cannot be brought to mind. I could write much more about the street and our neighbours, and of course, Windsor Clive School. But that would take a great deal of space !

    Tony Williams
I lived in Ely all my life except for the last year in which I had to move to Weston-Super-Mare.I can't wait to move back. Ely is my home and it's the only place I feel I have good genuine friends around me. Also all my family have lived in Ely for nearly 50 years.
