See photos of the event Footprints in the Sands of Time is an ambitious community production created especially for Caldicot Castle. The son-et-lumière spectacle will illuminate the history of the castle, its owners and builders over the centuries.
The production will feature one hundred actors, huge image projections, specially composed music, dramatic lighting effects and stunning pyrotechnics.
Set in Victorian and medieval times, great events of history are woven together with myth and legend in a moving and poetic script. It tells a romantic tale of love and tragedy against the background of the violence, intrigue and treachery that was the life of the medieval aristocracy.
The massive wealth and power of the de Bohun dynasty, accumulated over the generations, passes to two very young sisters. The men they marry are to shape the future of Britain.
The De Bohun family crest, a chained swan becomes the badge King Henry V carries to victory at Agincourt.
The origin of this symbol is revealed as the magical Legend of the Knight of the Swan - a legend which we will bring to life from the vellum pages of the De Bohun family's beautiful illuminated manuscripts.
The evening starts at 7.30pm with a Historical Fair in the country park outside the castle. The ground is set with stalls, games, artists and craftsmen, traders, food and drink, and brass bands.
The Spectacular commences when darkness has fallen - about 10.15pm - and lasts for a little over one hour and a half.
'Footprints in the Sands of Time' is created by the team responsible for the Historic Spectaculars 'Stronghold', 'Most Loyal Knight', '1648, The Tides of War' performed at Chepstow Castle, and 'Echoes in the Stones' at Tintern Abbey.
