Caldicot Male Voice Choir at the 2004 National Eisteddfod in Newport

Last updated: 29 January 2007

Are you male? Can you sing? John Nicholson from Caldicot Male Voice Choir says they're looking for new members.

Caldicot Male Voice Choir is asking you to consider joining them by becoming part of the team that will continue to provide music into the future. As a very strong choir, with a reputation and facilities that are envied by choirs across the world, the choir has been running now for over 40 years.

But in order for it to continue for the next forty years and beyond, it needs to continuously drive for new members. We are therefore asking you to consider joining us now.

The primary purpose of the choir is to provide high quality music at concerts for community events, notable occasions and charities.

The creation of music upholds a long standing Welsh tradition and the choir does not forget its roots. However it is recognised that Caldicot has a high English population and this is reflected in the choir membership. So regardless of your roots, you will be made most welcome.

The choir is split into four sections: tenor, second tenor, baritone and bass. Each sings a separate part to create wonderful harmony. You do not need to be a brilliant and experienced singer to do this.

Most men, when they join, do not believe they can even sing!! You don't need to be a soloist and you don't need to be able read music. We want good steady singers that are willing to learn. We will teach you the music. Being in our choir is all about being part of a team.

In addition to the UK concerts, the choir has had concert tours to the US, Canada and across Europe. The choir is still very active and has a full programme, but in orderf or it to stay that way we must have new members.

The choir is very much part of the Caldicot community and provides very high quality entertainment far and wide.

In recent times the choir has given prestigious concerts as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations, has appeared at the Royal Albert Hall, sung in the Millennium Stadium as well as small local concerts supporting local charities.

Whilst membership is obviously limited to male singers, we recognise that we are dependent on the support of wives, partners and families.

The choir delivers an average of one concert a month and members are expected to attend our two practices a week. Families are encouraged to attend the numerous social events that are organised throughout the year and the occasional weekend concert breaks.

For more information call John 01291 430177, Allan 01633 413406 or Jason 01291 425165.

Or just come along to a practice at the Choir Hall, Mill Lane, Caldicot, on any Monday or Thursday between 7.15 and 9.15pm.
