My Senses When I Skate

Skateboarding in Aberdare - photo by John White

i can see the run-up to the steps i'm about to ollie
i smell the sweat on my face
i can taste blood because i just fell on my face
my hands touch the floor when i fall, i feel relieved as i land a trick

richard woodward

i see: me jumping very high
and then i land it.
i hear: a big bang.
i smell: nothing.
i am in: a big half cab and i taste: sweets.
i touch: the specs with my bank it is bare.
i feel: when i do not land i i am sad but i try again

joseph powell

i see me dead on the floor
i hear the wheels going round
i smell the rubber from my wheels
i taste the sweat on my lips
i touch my board
i feel dead

i see the board beneath my feet, lifting as i pull a trick
i hear the perfect land
i smell the air as i pass along
i taste the adrenalin on the tip of my tongue
i touch the board as a proud skater would
i feel the sensation of landing a hard trick
rocket launching through the air and the wind passing through my ABEC's
howling under my board
whilst sweat trickles past my nose

i see the skateboarder going down the half pipe and hitting a ramp at 70 miles (an hour) and then i see that he lands in a manual and kick flips back into manual.

i hear the wheels swirling around like a tornado then he goes up the half pipe and pulls off an mctwist then i hear him land like an earthquake.

i smell victory running through his veins. it is better than blood.

i taste the dust as it falls into my mouth like a parachute floating to the floor. i also taste the victory of landing new tricks.

i feel the glory of landing a new trick and getting down three steps.

wickedly radically spinning twist flip.

j coombs

i see perspectives and fast flowing ground
i hear strange noises from different directions
i smell dust from people's skateboards
i taste thin air
i touch the bottom of my air
