Coach of the Year

Karate coach Rob Copeland from Barry has been honoured for his work with disabled people.


Rob coaches at Vale Karate which now has 500 members - ranging from just four years old right up to adults.

He received the award for the nation's leading Coach with Disabled Sportspeople at the annual Sports Council for Wales Coach of the Year Awards in November 2008.

18 squad members have won individual titles at UK and International level. This year, the club has won eight team gold medals plus 162 silver and bronze medals.

Rob has established events for people with special needs this year and has nurtured two Welsh Champions.

Rob Copeland receives his awardMedals aside, he has been honoured by the SCW for making a difference to people's lives by getting them involved in sport and teaching them a whole range of valuable life skills through the fun and discipline of karate.


Rob has embraced the inclusion of disabled members into his club and has worked hard to include the category into several competitions.
