Listen to Gareth(Need help?)
I've lived in Aberdare for eighteen years - that's all of my life.
I'm self employed. I work in a local fashion retail shop in Market Street. We sell a range of T shirts, trousers, and small boutique items.
I've been trading since last April, so it's just nigh on a year now in the next three months.
Things are a little bit quiet due to the Christmas period just going. Hopefully things will pick up and I imagine it'll be a good 2006.
I find the positive aspects of Aberdare are people in general. The shops that are placed in the town are very good themselves. We've got big name stores in the area as well as smaller retailers.
In the future I'd like to see Aberdare become a little bit more of a modern town with more shops. I know there's a development happening in Aberdare Market which should generate some more commercial properties. I imagine this will put Aberdare firmly on the map.

I am delighted to see that there is an element of enterprise in the youth of Aberdare. I have lived in Aberdare since 1960 and have seen a lot of changes in Aberdare. Alas not all for the better and at times I feel that the young people of Aberdare think that things are hard and will never improve, but people have to try harder to do what they beleive in, like Gareth who is trying to establish himself in Market Street. I worked in a store in Aberdare called Victor Freeds which sold all types of household goods. Mr Freed used to send me to Lloyds the grocer to get a bottle of wine from the Kegs of wine and cheese biscuits to entertain customers with wine and biscuits. We used to have people calling in and therefore buy the goods on sale. My message to Gareth is hang on in there and things will improve. Good luck.
