Reply to Neil Hammond - I remember the Comets, I used to play guitar with the Zodiacs at the same time. I have an advert from the Aberdare Leader December 26th 1964 showing the Zodiacs playing there on the 29th December (2/- entrance) and the Comets playing on New Years Eve (3/-entrance).

Gwilym Morris, Leatherhead, Surrey
I remember Steve Capannini. As you said he went to America. His sister joined the army and his brother was into market gardening. I remember your playing at the Mem. I learnt to play table tennis there I also remember Ray Meredith from school. Such a long time ago!

Mike, Jersey, Channel Islands
I well remember Judo lessons at the Mem with Ray Griffiths, a policeman at the time, and also his son Mark and daughter. In the summer it was straight from Judo to the old Rock swimming pool for one of the evening swimming clubs. Dunlops, Sobels, Cables, all used to have their own nights for the employees to have a swim and some fun. Back to the Mem sad to learn it has been demolished. It was a majority land mark in my youth. Hi Charlie, say Hi to Jimmy and John from me.

Yes I remember. I can't remember exactly but I think Jenkin St, Clifton/Pendarren St, definitely Monk St. Steve Cap as he was known went to America. As a chippie I know Ray well - he was big butties with Vic Winnan who played regular in the Georgian together. I also remember (sickie) Ron Hadlan? Another local group of the time was the Celts. Was Densil looking after the Mem then?

Neil Hammond, Ealing, London
I used to play drums at the Memorial Hall in a group called "The Comets" during 1964/65. We were once on the same billing as the Merseybeats and I remember seeing the Hollies there too. The manager of the Hall told us of his attempt to secure the Beatles for the same price and was asked "Which Beatle do you want?" The Comets were: Myself on Drums, Jeff Neal on Bass, Tony on Lead, Steve on Rythem, Ray Meredith and Paul on Vocals. Anybody remember us? Nah I thought not!
