Beyond these walls lies Cardiff's castle which boasts a typical Norman keep built on an old Roman fort. The castle has been re-developed three times - its most recent transformation taking place in the 1870s under the 3rd Marquess of Bute. Opposite the castle can be seen the start of Cardiff's main pedestrianised shopping area - Queen Street.
