Kelly Morgan One of the world's top badminton players

Born:
22 MAY 1975
Place of Birth:
Tonteg
Famous For:
One of the world's top badminton players
Biography:

Kelly Morgan has won a string of medals and accolades since she first represented her country at the age of 15.

Her career highlights include winning Commonwealth gold for Wales in 1998 and reaching the last 16 of the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Kelly also won a silver medal at the 1998 European Championships and bronze in 2000, the year in which she reached her highest ranking so far as world number 5.

She took a short break in 2001 after marrying childhood sweetheart Dylan Aston, setting up home in Old Llantrisant.

In 2002 Kelly had mixed fortunes. She failed to retain her Commonwealth title, being beaten in the quarter-finals, but was awarded an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Her sights are now set on the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, hoping it'll be a case of third time lucky after competing in Atlanta and Sydney.

Outside of the sporting world, Kelly is heavily involved in charity work, most notably as patron of the Down's Syndrome Association of Wales.

Moment of Glory:
Winning gold at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur - then clambering over the seats to reach her parents to celebrate!

Kelly is a great asset to Welsh badminton and is an inspiration to me and fellow badminton players!

Emma Jones from Castle Caereinion
Kelly is a inspiration to all not just because of badminton but to what a nice person she is. She is so great that I am doing a project on her for my Welsh class and some day I wish to do as well as her in badminton. All the best for the future Kelly! Keep it going!

Carissa from Cardiff
Kelly is amazing, she is a role model to all young badminton players, I just hope that I can be as good as she is in the future.

Claire from Tonteg
I think Kelly should keep on working hard and I am sure that if she tries hard enough she will win gold at the next olymics. Go Kelly....

Christopher Lutton from Caerphilly
I think that Kelly Morgan is a brillaint player but she needs to show more aggression and that she doesn't want to win each game but she needs to win. I wish her all the best in regaining her title. Maybe in the future there will be more players like her who will shine through.
