I believe I first saw Tom Jones on a Bryan Michie talent show on Wales' first ITV station TWW, when billed as Tom Woodward, 'the singing bricklayer from Pontypridd', he won first prize singing 'Donna'. Unfortunately I have never seen this documented anywhere so is it true or was it someone else?
Linda from Connecticut, USA
Just bought 24 Hours! I've played Never about 100x over. I'm 55 and he still HAS it. It's in his soul, for sure. Glad he stayed with Linda. She has to be a very special person.
Zelma Suarez, Riverside CA
Wow! I just saw a news photo of Sir Tom going grey. It's about time...I'm sure his son Mark talked him into it. Mark always wants the best for his dad. Sir Tom I'm glad you decided to grow old GRACEFULLY!
Diane Hauser, in Castle Rock, Colorado, USA
Tom has given so much of himself for so long he deserves every music award out there, and then some. His latest CD "24 Hours" is nothing less than spectacular, and at 68 he is still so passionate, so sexy and so intimate, that after 35 years he continues to rock my world.
Chris Harris from Birmingham
What an absolute legend - I've listened to Tom since I was a kid, and whilst living in Cardiff a few years back got to see him at Coopers Field (2004 I think) with my girlfriend, what an amazing gig, the guy's pipes are amongst the best of all time!!!
Michael Stanway,Kelowna BC Canada
Hi What a voice Tom Jones has ,I've always admired him.As all Welshmen do I have been involved in singing.I first saw Sir Tom in Bedwas in the late fifties or early sixties in the Bedwas Green Fly Club I think it was called and he was billed as 'Tommy Scott and the Senators''I thought what a versatile performer and then he recorded ''It's not Unusual'' so to jump a few decades I then saw him perform in Kelowna BC about 15 years ago and I waved a Welsh Flag at him on stage and he gave me a thumbs up sign, I realy felt proud .Then about 3 years ago he was performing ! in Las Vegas and I was there as well , but as I am now retired I could'nt justify the price of a ticket so I just hear him on my CD,s and in my memories.
Anita McGraw - Florida USA
I'm a big Tom Jones Fan. Some of Tom's fans in the US are attempting to get him the Kennedy Center Honors to recognize his talent, love of his career and fans and the longevity of his career with some 200 concerts per year even now at age 68.
John Cicekli
I am a male (straight) and I think he is great. Total idol! If I was a woman I would drop at the sight and sound of him too! Why are people so myopic and vengeful of people in general but, mostly, of successful people? Why should he not charge for his performances? Why should he give to your charity? Why is he being asked to donate (which I hate if it is solicited directly)? It is the principal of it. If he really needs to explain his situation perhaps he has a lot of financial issues. The point is he is awesome and appreciate him!
Jan from Illinois
Used to watch his tv show when I was younger in my 20's. He was super then and he is now. I saw him in a concert on tv. He still can belt out a song with no problem and can sing a ballad that will bring you to tears. Keep singing and God bless.

Congrats Tom!! I met Tom at Alconbury US airbase. Sad to say a bunch of hillbillies were there who wanted to hear Country music and were very distracting. I went to his dressing room feeling sorry for him.
Imagine my surprise when this Welsh accent came from his mouth, me being from Cardiff and he from Ponty. We had a great conversation about the clubs he worked in Cardiff and I told him if he ever got famous to remeber me (Taff).
Three months later he was performing at the same base only this time it was on the football field, with people coming from US bases from all over the place. We got our seats early, tenth row. After a few numbers I hollered a little Welsh to him he hollered back "Is that you, Taff?" Years later he was performing in Nashville, after pulling a few strings (Welsh being one of them) the sherrif got us into his dressing room. I started the conversation with the story of our meeting, he immediately said! "It's not you Taff?!" We chatted then he had to go on.
A few years passed, Tom by now was a star! I was working in Washington DC a bunch of the Bay girls bought tickets. We sent a letter to the stage manager and after his first number he looked out and acknowleged, us, now if that ain't a true Welshman!! He is so down to earth and not affected by his popularity. A man of his word he did't forget me!! So get off his back and be proud of him. Love you Sir Tom.
Newport Beach , California
Jayne (Ponty girl - I can remember everytime Tom would go to the Wheatsheaf, he would ask my friend and I to mind his Rolls not for anyone to damage it. That Rolls Royce is now in Southern Cali and is in mint condition.
T. Cooke, Ystrad Rhondda.
I used to be a big fan of Tom Jones but it all changed when he said I'm coming home to give a concert in Ponty park for the people of Wales. Everyone had to pay to go in, what a jerk, all the money he got. He's about as patriotic as the chickens i keep.
Phil Owen a welshman living in NZ
I recently watched Tom perform at the 'Mission Winery', in Napier NZ. on St Davids day. He still has the magic to enthrall the twenty thousand people who turned out to see him.
Brenda, Clinton-Tenn
I saw Sexy Tom recently in Knoxville. I waited years to see if he was as good as I thought he would be. He was great! His voice was great and he was very entertaining and still very sexy. My husband went and enjoyed himself too. As far as his wife's concerned maybe she's a very private person, or like myself doesn't like her picture taken, and that's why there's not alot of pics of her. Maybe she's forbid them to be made public for fear of being ridiculed. It wouldn't be the first time that was done to someone. People shouldn't blame him for lack of pics when they don't know the real sons. Lack of pics could also offer protection, privacy, and more of chance of normacy to his family. I wish his family well, but it's Tom I want to see and hear. If only everyone could still be sexy, charming, entertaining, and chairsmatic at 60+. How many of his critics can hold an audience captive like he does or how many fans do they have period. Keep on TCB Sir Sexy/Talented Tom.
Deb -Fargo ND
I remember listening to Tom when I was younger and watching him on television. I always thought he had a great voice. I have never had the pleasure of seeing him in person but I hope to someday. Congratulations on being knighted, Tom! You are truly a legend!
Gerwyn J from Merthyr
Sir Tom ??!! Don't make me laugh, left Wales to avoid Income Tax and only came back to his 'homeland' to retire. Should have stayed in the US where he still has fans.
Jack C, Pontypridd
Knighthood, it makes a mockery of the whole system. What has he contributed to the British music industry, being self exiled in USA all these years? As far as being a patriotic Welshman, you're having a laugh. When asked if would make a small contribution to the refurbishment of the local Treforest Boys Club, his answer was not very patriotic. He may be loved from afar, but locally he's far from loved.
Endang Rosadi, Indonesia
He is still my favorite singer, since I was 16. I am now 60 years old - I am a piano player and still sing his songs in my band. Yes he is a great singer, hope some day I am able to meet him.
Victor Blackwood. Gwent
I worked in the Polya Glove Factory where Tom was a glove cutter. He was always singing. He is proud to be Welsh. He's a fantastic entertainer. Long may he continue to do so.
John from Bermuda
The man is a star but the Green Green Grass of Home waswritten by Claude "Curley" Putnam. It was a hit for Porter Waggoner before Tom Jones. I think TJ has the BEST version. Jerry Lee did it great as well. But PLEASE get the facts right!! However, TJ is probably the greatest artist of his genre alive today!! A LIVING LEGEND.
Chris Madsen nee Jones, Rhosymedre
I saw Tom in the ABC theatre in Chester in the 1960s - he was appearing instead of PJ Proby who was banned from performing because he kept splitting his trousers. Tom had a frilly shirt and rabbit's foot and tight black trousers. We booed him (for shame on us) because we had paid to see PJ and had not heard of Tom. He sang What's New Pussycat among other things. We were all screaming for him by the end and I have been a life long fan ever since. By the way, I did get to see PJ Proby a few times and even spoke to him - he was lovely too!!!
Ant Jones, New Zealand
Tom is God, greatest voice ever ever. When is he coming down under ??
Kenneth Wright from Nashville, TN, USA
My dad told me to check Sir Tom out in concert around 1988 in South Carolina. I was not sure if I wanted to until my Dad said," Best singer I've ever heard, you don't dig it and I'll pay for your tix". It was the best show with the best voice I have ever heard and I've seen him many times since. I write songs/sing for a living and Mr Jones is a major influence.
Marco from Mexico City
Tom Jones came to México City in the 70's and he was a bomb at the "Del Prado Hotel" Show.
Cynthia, ex Pontypridd now Netherlands
I have grown up with Tom - in school he sang The Lord Is My Shepherd in assembly and when he was very little he sang Mammy by Al Jolson in my street from a balcony. I have also danced with Tom and sang with him on Saturday nights on the way home from Patsys. Lots of good memories - great guy.
John Blake from Brazil
Happy Birthday Tom ! I'm a long way from Las Vegas but have great memories of watching your performances in London, Paris, Denver and Vegas.
Dayfydd from Gwent
Tom was no much different from other performers; he would and probably did anything to gain fame and stardom. But his powerful voice can no be ignored; he's a force to contend with, until he's no more.
Huw from Pontypridd - now in Florida
The great Tom Jones - what a voice. How proud to be Welsh when artists like him exist.
Kelli from Georgia, USA
Can someone tell me what Tom Jones said at the end of every show?
Brian ex-Hopkinstown
Somebody said he doesn't visit Ponty anymore! If you lived in Las Vegas, would you come back? The first time I saw Tom perform was in Omagh, 1966. He was magic then, and he hasn't changed. Am I jeoleous of him, b****y right I am.
W Daurge, Exeter
Certainly, an excellent voice but as a pupil of Treforest Secondary Modern School, Tom Jones attained notoriety for reasons other than singing. My father Hubert James Howells taught English and would despair when teaching Mr Jones. What Mr Jones lacked both in written and spoken English, he made up for in song!
Mattie Marchini, Baltimore, Maryland, USA
Sir Tom Jones is the best there ever was as a performer and singer and has a God given voice like no other in the world. I fell in love with him when I was 17 years - I am now 52 and will enjoy and always adore him forever. He is the GREATEST like no other!!! He's the MAN...
Mike Sullivan, Treherbert
I was a Tommy Scott and the Senators fan. They used to practice in the Dare Hotel, Cwmparc where John Cooper lived - he was one of the Senators. Tom Jones? What a boy from nowhere!
Debra D Rumage from Matthews, North Carolina, USA
Dead sexy!!! I'm 55 and have been through lots of music styles. I must say that he is the best! His nickname "the voice" is so fitting! I met him in the early 1970's in Atlanta, Georgia. Even though he was in a hurry to catch a plane, he took time to have his picture taken with me. I'll never forget it!
Mark the Spark, Caerphilly
We are very proud of you Tom!!! Keep it up Butty....
Elizabeth McManus from Illinois
I think Tom Jones has done a remarkable job of keeping up with the times. His song "Stoned in Love" with Chicane has put him right back on top of the charts. Long live Sir Tom!
B Anderson from Red Wing
There is a photo of Tom Jones' wife on the website, www.tomjonesbiography.com under the heading Factfile.

Has a beautiful voice - me and my husband just love him to death. We go to see him everytime we can. Just wish he would do a Christian CD - would love to hear him do that, I know it would be great. He puts has hold heart in his music.
Darla from Pennsylvania
I am curious as to why we haven't seen a picture of Tom's wife Linda. To stay with him for 50 years.. he should be her number one fan.
Eric Morelli
Tom Jones was my idol when I was in high school. I watched his show religiously every single week. While most of the kids in my school were busy listening to hard rock, smoking grass and popping acid, I was busy working out and leading the clean life so I could look like him when I grew up. Well.... God didn't quite bless me the way he did Tom but for 51 years old, I don't look half bad! Anyway, I joined the Air Force in 1973, married in 1975 where I went on a "Tom Jones hiatus" of 33 long years. Then in March of 2006, for some unknown reason, my interest in him was reignited. I started searching internet for some of his old stuff and thanks to e-bay I now have his DVD Definitive collection of the series that ran in Canada in the early 80's (he looked even better than he did in the 60's)! I recently purchased a VHS of some of his performances from the "This is Tom Jones" series that ran from 1969-1971. I would consider that a real collector's item. When I watched it, it was like taking a trip back in time. I remembered when I saw him live at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles back in the early 70s and now my wife and I are going to Las Vegas in August to see him live for the first time in over 30 years. And to top it off, after my interest reignited earlier this year, I found out he had been Knighted! Now is that ESP or what??? Tom, for whatever reason, it's good to be back with you again.
Jude J, Arizona
Sir Tom, Penblwydd Hapus iawn! You made my mum swooooooooooooooon, and when I saw you sing Prince's "Kiss" live a number of years ago, I finally understood her reaction. Thanks for doing the theme to "The Emperor's New Groove" - you, Sir, are indeed a classic crooner.
Allan Blissett from Merthyr, now Sydney, Australi
Congratulations and happy birthday - caught your excellent show with John Farnham in Sydney. I belong to Sydney Welsh Choir, backing Aled Jones on his Sydney concert in a few weeks.
Viv Rosser, Neath
Congratulations Tom you have made the Welsh proud for so many years with that fantastic voice of yours. If you are ever in Neath call into the Empire Snooker club for a pint of Welsh bitter. Happy Birthday and many more to come.
Zelma Suarez, Riverside, California, USA
Dear Sir Tom, Sending you many Happy Birthday Wishes on this special day (7 June). You were HOT back then, and you're STILL HOT NOW! Keep ROCKIN ON!
John Blake in Brazil
Jones the voice is a singing sensation! I have seen Tom perform in London, Paris, Denver, and Las Vegas, and sit in my seat loving every second of his performance.
During his career he has been an equal giant and a major headliner in Vegas, along with Sinatra and Elvis.
Tom, at his very best is a hard act to follow - well, what better recomendation can he have when Elvis Presley came to see him give another sensational performance! Ladies and gentleman.....this is TOM JONES!!!!
Matthew from Rhondda
I'm glad that Tom Jones got his knighthood - and to all of you people badmouthing him how dare you, if it wasn't for him and other Welsh famous people most of the world wouldn't know were Wales is. I'm so proud to be Welsh and to see him talking of how proud he is of our small country brings a lump in my throat all the time. One story I have of Tom in his younger years, he once played in the Lewis Merthyr, Porth, Rhondda, and as he played he jumped on the table and broke it. He was banned for life. My grandfather's sister Elsie and her husband used to travel around the valleys just to watch him sing. I hope he comes back to sing in Ponty Park again because I'll be there. Wales, Wales!
Zelma Suarez from California, USA
I am tired of hearing people bashing people because they had to move (exile) away from their country of birth to become successful! And in Sir Tom's case (like all other entertainers from Wales) I haven't heard anyone bashing the likes of Ray Milland, Richard Burton, Catherine Zeta-Jones etc. Sir Tom's career has succeeded, and exceeded most entertainers from his country. A lot of you don't remember Ray Milland, but everyone knows Tom Jones! He put Wales on the map, and he always acknowledges his beloved Pontypridd whenever he is interviewed. There will always be A LOT OF JEALOUSY out there, especially among YOU MEN! As long as the ladies love him, WHO CARES? Because his following are WOMEN. I love him and his music, and he will always be in my heart! CONGRATULATIONS SIR TOM!
Claudia Almanza, from Mexico
Tom Jones has also fans in my country, my Dad and I among them!! Personally I really think he is a great singer, with a unique personality, a SEX BOMB!!!
Mrs L Arnold, Pontypridd
He doesn't visit Pontypridd so why should he have been knighted? He couldn't even give money for his local school he went to as a boy. I disagree with him being knighted.
msmac, Birmingham
No pics anywhere on the web of Tom Jones wife Linda - is Tom ashamed of Linda? We know she's not glamorous but he's just vain. Come on Tom, show the world you care - publish a picture for your golden anniversary.
wildabouttom
It surprises me how some of the Brits post such nasty things about the greatest talent who has ever come from Wales. Is it jealousy that Tom has found such success? He certainly deserves a knighthood as well as many who have been so knighted these past years, even more so. He put Wales on the map!!
Marie-Claude Chatelin from France
Tom's a wonderful singer and i'm able to listen to his song " Still " for hours !! Did you know he and Elvis Presley ( that i adore ) were good friends ?
Jim O'Neil U.S.
Tom Jones is the very best of his generation. I have seen him many times in Atlantic City.
Anon Rhymney Valley
Nice to see all these exiles coming out of the woodwork and remembering their roots. Stu from Ponty asks "Why do we celebrate a man who lives in America and only comes back to Wales when he's paid to?" Tom has never forgotten his roots - whenever or wherever he is interviewed he talks of places close to him like Ponty, Caerphilly etc etc, unlike well known people like Anthony Hopkins (now a US citizen) and Catherine Zeta Jones. Tom still has his accent and will never forget where he is from. He played a concert in his home town not because he was paid not because his agent says it might be a good idea. It was because he wanted too, there's a difference.
Ps..he did "take" a turkey from Fochriw club, but as a practical joke as he was a bit of a boy in his younger days.
Boni From South Carolina
I've been a fan of Sir Tom since I was a very young girl.I couldn't wait until his T.V. show came on weekly.I wish it still did!!I have had the good fortune of seeing Tom live, I only wish he would come to or near S.C. more often.I am only 48 yrs. old but I'd be his "SEXBOMB" anytime!I am happily married (for 28 yrs.) and my husband knows how much I adore Tom and loves to watch me get a thrill out of wearing out the DVDS I have of him.Anybody who thinks he's anything but "HOT" no matter what his age, is just jealous.I will be looking forward to seeing him and hearing his music forever!!!I hope he never stops!! He gets better with age!!
Jayne (Ponty girl)
I can remember every time Tom would go to the Wheatsheaf, he would ask my friend and I to mind his Rolls not for anyone to damage it.He was only young at the time and had a Rolls Royce!
One of my memories back in the days was the first time I met Tom when he was in Pontypridd town and all the fans were chasing him, I asked for his autograph and as a reply he took me in the record shop by the fountain and wrote his name on my arm. I did'nt wash my arm for weeks after that! I'am also proud by Tom becoming 'Sir Tom'
Sian Mortimer from Caerphilly
I think Tom Jones is a fantastic singer and even though he is getting on a bit his voice will never change.
Maureen from Perth Western Australia
I remember the first time I heard Tom Jones on the radio my mother made us stop to listen as she knew the voice. We left Wales in November 1961 and Tom's Mum and Dad had come to the Wood Road Non Political Club to sing "I'll keep a Welcome in the Hill Side" for them. (Tom's parents had great voices). As soon as the announcer said Tom Jones Mum knew it was Tom Woodward and that he had taken his Mum's name. I have taken my mum to see him in Perth but have never had the opportunity to meet him again,(not for lack of trying), although my husband did meet your Mum and Dad at the club in 1978 when we were home. If your twin cousins ever want some photo's of themselves taken with my twin brother when they were around 9 years old let me know. We lived in Tower Street.
Lesley F. Hayward-Evans, exile Leidschendam
Well done Tom. I went to one of your concerts in the Ahoy Rotterdam some years ago together with my Mum. We had a great time and I was still singing for days afterwards.
Cwmafan Morgan, Beaver County Pennsylvania USA
Being born Amercian to a Welsh Father and a Welsh descent mother (her parents both born in Port Talbot) I grew up listening to Sir Tom's records. Mom just adored him. Dad was more the big band music era and would mumble in his tea when mom would play her records of Sir Tom. I am pleased he has received his Knighthood from Her Majesty. Nothing wrong with it. Now if only Sir Jones would make a CD of traditional Welsh folk songs and Welsh hymns. How cool would that be?
carla farr (from blaina)
tom jones is the one and only love of my life, hes a man from the valleys and hes proud to be WELSH!!!!!!!! the first time i hear one of his songs and it was called without love! i just fell in love with it.
Ann from Bedwas
I like tom's singing but I do think he could come home and invest some of his millions in the land of his birth. After all it was the workingmens clubs that gave him his chance, even though he got thrown out of the fly in trethomas quite often.
Pat Baker Buffalo N,Y
Tom Jones is a really SWEETHEART, Ithink a alot about him, Ive know him about 35 years. I and my husband will be seening in A,C, for three days, Yes I think very high of him and so dose my husband. SINCERLY PAT BAKER WILKE

Sue in Cardiff
I think Tom deserves his Knighthood wherever you go in the world if you mention Wales people may not know where it is but mention Tom Jones and they know automatically I have seen Tom many times in the CIA in Cardiff and in the grounds of the castle here in cardiff what a performer he seems such an ordinary guy and always remembers where he came from his music appeals to people of all ages and he has the ability to just keep going Tom is a pleasure to listen to and even more of a pleasure to watch x
Elisabeth Rae Perkins Vermont
I remember sitting in front of the television set at 14, idolizing Tom Jones. Thursday nights at 7pm was my hour to watch "This is Tom Jones". I have never had the pleasure to meet Tom or see him in person, but I have a great respect for someone who can take such good care of themselves and maintain their career for so many years. You are as young as your care!
An Adoring Fan! at age 47, Elisabeth~
Carine from Sweden
Tom your voice and performance: still outstanding but please shave off that beard!
Nic Evans from Blaina
having grown up in the valleys during the 60's I seem to have spent my whole life as a fan of Tom's.Looking forward to the next 40 years!
Shelley from Ponty
Tom your a legand! Or should I say Sir Tom. It's amazing to see all nationalities making comments about you! that must make you so proud of where you are today! Congrats!
Mike Fletcher, Undy
Not doubting the truth of any stories listed here, but I cant help thinking that if all the "I knew him when he was a yobbo" stories I've heard over the years are true then Tom must have known (and offended) the entire population of South Wales before he even got his first record out.
I never met him, but I've enojoyed his music, and I've seen his fantastic live show. Whatever he did or didn't do as a lad, he's become a great man and a great ambassador for Wales.
Good for you, Tom !
Sion exile in Australia
A great Welsh singer - honoured by the English!
Ros from Canada
I was born in the valleys and proud to be Welsh and will always be. I came to Canada to live 5 years ago. I often have to tell people here where Wales is and when I say Tom Jones Country ! they know where I am from. For many years having grown up around Tom I was never a fan , due to his behavour as a "Yobbo" and never bought a record, and always said I wouldnt go to the toilet to see him. BUT! a friend here bought me a ticket to go see him in Edmonton Alberta last year, I was reluctant to go, But I am really glad I did, I had a Whale of a time hearing Tom and seeing all the WELSH FLAGS FLYING in the audience including my own. I loved the show. Tom was great, I was even more proud to hear him say " People always ask me if I enjoy my work, and I always tell them I havent worked a day in my life, I love what I do, it is a hobby" thats for sure Tom! you never did do a days work, but you sure are a good ambassedor for Wales and I felt proud that we have both come so far, and I had the privilage to see you here in Canada. "Good for you Tom Boyo" and congratulations.
anon from south wales
to dave from ponty how can you call tom jones a bum ? but there you are a typical man ! talking through his a---e ! ! !

I felt i had to comment on jack edwards from newport ... who do you think you are saying such nasty things about a true welsh gent... he has a fantastic voice hes still with his lady wife after many many years of marriage..
YOUR THE DISGRACE FOR SAYING SUCH THINGS.. As for workingmans clubs paying a fiver for him, Tom did all that when he first started out he worked very hard to be where he is now. GOOD LUCK SIR TOM XXX
Bev made in Wales
Tom Jones? Knighthood? Who would have believed it? A Man that stands on stage and sniffs the panties some ill mannered women throw to the stage. I am shocked that knighthood is being made such a joke of. Anyone from Wales can not honestly say that his voice is the best they have heard and isn't even on a more than average scale of the untrained voice of the miners in a sing song pub. You would think if knighthood of voice is to be awarded that it would go to the likes of him. I am disgusted
Andy, from Adelaide, South Australia
Have admired the voice since the 60's. Top of the Pops and "it's not unusual".
His longevity says it all and I especially like his pairing with John Farnham.
Betty Thompson [nee Fryer] from Pengam
Although I have lived in New Zealand for now 67 years, I have never lost my love for
Wales. The songs and singing of Tom Jones has been just another reminder of my roots
and the wonderful land I left behind.
The honour bestowed upon Tom is a truereward for a wonderfiul life of entertainment all around the world.
Keep it up Tom....

so sorry tom i cant stand the sight or sound of you as to living in u s a well
it sounds a bit like i live away and come back when i want to why did you accept the

My vicarious claim to fame: my husband Russ Morgan sang on the same bill as Sir Tom.

It was a charity show for the blind, held at Ebbw Vale on July the ninth 1967. Russ and Tom were photographed here with Susan James.
Seems like eons ago - we migrated to Canada and had grandchildren who are now almost grown. But Sir Tom is still drawing in the crowds and the knickers keep getting tossed. Congratulations Sir T Jones and thank you for being such a wonderful ambassador for Wales... Hurry on back to Vancouver you are so loved here... PS Russ is still singing too...
jack edwards newport city
A disgrace to honour him. What has he actually done for the country. Nothing at all. I am ashamed to call him a welshman. He left his wife and exiled himself to america to avoid paying tax. As for singing, it's a joke. He has no tone to his voice. Many working mens clubs would not pay him a fiver a night. He is a con man. Disgrace to the welsh nation.
Mama
Celebrities who are just that don't deserve the knighthood, OBE, MBE (especially if they no longer live in the country), unless like Bob Geldof they actually get on and do some good for the world, they do deserve it.
I would have thought that the unsung heroes deserve these awards more, those that have done outstanding works for their local communities, etc.
DEE FROM BARRY VALE OF GLAMORGAN
I love TOM ITS ABOUT TIME HE HAD A KNIGHTHOOD He should have had it before M/S Bassey was given her dame title ...
Dee from Queensland Australia (ex Wales)
I have enjoyed his music all my adult life. Saw him live on Queensland's Gold Coast many years ago and he was fantastic. I like the fact that he reinvents himself. I love the new songs and also his collaboration with Jools Holland. St James Infirmary is superb.
Robert from Houston, Texas
Don't criticise Tom because he lives in the USA. That is the base for his career and he has maintained that career for many decades while others have faded long ago. To do that takes talent, energy and professionalism. He deserves his knighthood. Exiles like me appreciate how difficult it can be.
Mari from Japan
Hearty congratulations on your getting a knighthood! You certainly deserve it.
Although you have visited Japan only three times and the last visit was 10 years ago, there are many devoted fans around. Tom Jones the Voice gives us such a pleasure and strength!
Alan from Durham
It's about time that Tom's guitarist, Big Jim Sullivan, was honoured.
Jim has been on 67 UK number 1 hits.

I once read.. "To be born Welsh is to be born privileged. Not with a silver spoon in your mouth, but with music in your blood and poetry in your soul". How very true that is. My Dad (from Dinas Powys) died when I was a babe, however Mum told me he was ALWAYS singing, I am ALWAYS singing as are my two sons. Yes, it (music) is in our Welsh Blood !!! Thank you Tom for sharing this special Welsh gift with the world.
sue from norfolk
i have seen tom many times he is fantastic could watch him for ever! see him at pontypridd got to the front was lovely to see him so close. please come back tom need to see you!
Lindsay McNally nee MacGregor from Cardiff
I saw Tom Jones, when he appeared in the New Theatre in Cardiff, singing his hit song 'It's Not Unusual' and me and my friend Jean Fenton screamed at him, while our hubbies looked away in embarassment. Still he was good then as he is now. Happy Birthdy to Tom.
Angharad from ponty area
Yes tom is a good singer and a great entertainer but I don't think he should be knighted, he is a welsh through and through no denying that but why not come back and visit us a bit more tom?

I emigrated to Australia from Laura Street, Graig, Pontypridd in September 1966 with my husband and daughter Sian. We were very homesick for quite a while and Tom's Green Green Grass of Home was being played everywhere. It was about six months before I found out what the song
was about because I kept bursting into tears and rushing out of places it was being played at. It still makes me feel a little sad. My daughter Sian Kilford went to school with Tom's son Mark at Woodroad Infants School. Keep singing Tom.
Audrey (Jones) Bradbury, Maine, USA
Tom Jones is the greatest singer of all time. I love all his songs, but my favourite one is With these hands. He really should be knighted, and I definitely think he will be one day - I hope it is in my lifetime. I was born in Cae Berllan, Penmon, Ynys Mon. Cymru and Tom Jones am Byth!
Gemma Carter, Cefn Forest
Total sex god, love his music whatever my mood when I hear one of his hits it makes me wanna shake my booty!!!!!! I love him (only wish my chest hair was as dense as his)
Ron Scott from Qld., Australia
Poor old Stu from Ponty, a bit of a Grinch. But then "It's not unusual".
Gaynor from Johannesburg

Gio Glasgow
I would just like to say Tom the Voice is brilliant happy 65th Birthday and many many more keep up the good work Tom - Tom your simply the best
Stu from Ponty
Why do we celebrate a man who lives in America and only comes back to Wales when he's paid to? I'm sorry but I have no time for the man. He does have one saving grace though, he's not as annoying as Shirley Bassey!
Raymond Hutton, Green Valley, Arizona
Tom surely still has the charisma and voice that goes with him wherever he goes - I myself was born in Port Talbot.
TJ Davies, Ynyswen Road, Treorchy
Can you tell me if Tom still keeps in touch with Jonny Bennet from Trealaw? They were round the clubs at the same time. Jonny had a voice every bit as good as Tom did.
Cynthia Cruz, Oceanside, California USA
He's a great entertainer and a legend!
Phil Mortimer from France
I was born in Cilfynydd on Tom's first birthday; it's great that he's still a sex god, because he's always going to be a year older than me!
Gayle from Massachusetts
I was "fortunate" enough to see him perform twice this year and I am still in AWE over him!!! I've been a fan for more than 30 years and HE is still THE MAN!!!! HIs voice is just soooooooo unbelieveably fantastic!!!
Bermentine
I've loved Tom Jones since I was little kid. I grew up listening to his music. I've i watched his perfromances since I was 12. Even though I am a native of Iraq he was very popular in my country. That really shows how famous Tom Jones really is.To me Tom Jones is the best musican there ever was.
Victor Kuznetsov from Krasnodar, Russia
My opinion of Tom Jones? What would you say if some singer could keep impressing you for 40 years? What would you say if his songs made you learn English and you became a professional translator? What would you say if this singer encouraged your marriage 30 years ago and these ties remained so unbreakable? What would you say if he made you LP collector and you cannot get rid of this "trouble" up to now?
The answer would be: This impact could only be made by really the Voice, absolutely unrivalled vocal Titanic of 2 centuries, who keeps overshadowing the other singers for decades. The real pride of Wales, a single product of nature, the unique talent from the U.K. so gratefully treasured world over.
The same time just a husband, a loving father and a man who no matter how great he has become will remain on the same Green Green Grass of our Homes with us forever! The best wishes from Russia, Tom!!
Beth, Mid Wales
Saw Tom at Ponty park and what a performer!Absolutly sensetional.Green green grass of home could never be sung with more meaning.HAPPY 65th BIRTHDAY TOM!and thanks for a fantastic show.

Dina Voormeij.....Hoorn, Holland
"The Voice" has been going strong for so long, that the time for a knighthood has been long overdue!
Tom has put Wales on the map for over 40 years! What a man!
Karen Hodgetts - Danescourt Cardiff
I have been a fan of Tom Jones for many years and have seen him in concert many times, I also helped out when he was guest of honour in the Cardiff City Hall Variety Club dinner where i was very happy to have met him, he was very charming and had plenty of time to chat and sign autographs and have his photograph taken, he was a real gentleman. My favourite songs are Boy from Nowhere, Green Green Grass of Home and Kiss ( which he sang very sexily ) Long may he continue to entertain us.
Philip Linley
Great - a real stayer
Andrew Smith
A Welshman for all time, his voice carries the Timbre of the Valleys throughout the World.
He has become a Legend in his own time, still crooning and making the ladies swoon. That old Welsh Magic captivates your heart and mind.
Good Luck and God Bless Tom. Hope to cheer you on your 100 years in Showbiz.
Brian from Penarth
I can't stand the man's voice but don't let that worry anyone. But if he loves Wales all that much how is it he's spent 41 years in America? There's nothing more patriotic than a Welsh (self-)exile.
Rosemary Trezza, Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA
Tom is truly a legend. He gives real meaning to the word "talent". Tom is
"Jones the Voice". I have been a fan of Tom Jones for 37 years and have never heard, seen or met a performer who can surpass Tom in talent and respect for his fans. Thank you, Tom, for all these years!
Denise Gentry from Mission Viejo, California,USA
Tom is an absolute genius with the combination of the most incredible voice ever along with his fabulous performing ability, and a genuinely nice man. He is a true gift to the world. He definitely should be in the hall of fame. Keep on Tom - we love you!!!
Ingrid Steenhuisen,The Netherlands
Tom Jones is a living legend. His voice even got better over the years. Just as his looks. For 39 years my Idol. Still great to see him on stage. I am one of the lucky ones to see him in Pontypridd. Hopefully he will go on for many years.
D. Ledgister USA
My mom turn me onto his music. I love his voice. My favorite Tom Jones song is stop breaking my heart, and its not unusual. What a voice. No one does it better, I hope to see him in concert one day. Tom Jones is a perfect entertainer.
Rob from Staffordshire UK
Tom is amazing, the energy in his voice is incredible. I am only 22 and quite new to his music - everytime I play 'Help Yourself' it leaves me buzzin! He has one of the best voices I have heard. Plus he is the only guy who can get away with wearing leather trousers and still look good! (or so my girlfriend says anyway!). God bless you Tom!
Mike Stanway, British Columbia, Canada
Give him a Knighthood, a true ambassador of the UK, especially of Wales, I just took a drive to Las Vegas and he was there for a week. What a show and what a write up. Give him what is his due. I did see him perform twice before, in Kelowna BC and Bedwas, Wales. Great singer with great heart.
Sarah from Treherbert
I was one of Tommy Scott and the Senators
followers in the early 60's he was brilliant even then.
Marian Dinan from Birmingham
Tom Jones has given the world 40 years of an enormous talent, his incomparable voice. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame for dedicating his life to entertaining the world.
Sue Gregg, Mount Vernon, Washington, USA
Granted, he's 15 yrs my senior, but he comes from the same town my Grandfather did. And so I know that a coal miners granddaughter enjoys his music to this very day and he still melts my heart. Only as a true Welshman could.. :)
Rachel Leech from Coton-in-the-Elms, Derbys.
I'm only 15 years old, yet, Tom Jones' immense voice has offered me hours of entertainment for the last 7 years or so. I've had the very good fortune to have seen him at Birmingham's NEC and his dynamic and oh so forceful voice nearly moved me to tears. A man of the greatest talent, I offer him my fullest praises and hope that his songs will touch people in the way I was touched when I first heard him sing "Green, Green Grass of home". God bless him!
John Howe in Bangkok
It’s a long way from Pontypridd to Pat Pong in Bangkok, but even here the raw sexuality and magnetic charisma of Tom has permeated this famous thoroughfare. Tom (or his Thai alto ego) is to be seen in Radio City, a club/disco in the heart of Bangkok’s ‘entertainment’ district. Seven nights a week, Thai Tom belts out the old favourites; It’s Not Unusual, Delilah, and always finishing with a surreal rendition of The Green, Green Grass of Home. To watch Thai Tom prance on stage, shaking his anatomy at all and sundry, while the resident expat community and the tourist fans join in the chorus of Delilah ‘da da ra-ing’ for all their worth, is something not to be missed.
Tom is faithfully rendered as in his younger days; accent perfect, movements precise, trousers as tight. If you are in Bangkok and can’t afford the real Tom, for only £1.50 a bottle of Heineken or Singha Radio City is the place for you.
Now off on a search of the katoey bars in search of our Shirl. I’ll find her.
Kayl Prosser from Ebbw Vale
Tom is great. He is amazing at concerts and I'd love to take my nan to see him. He is a true Welsh hero and my all-time fav singer. luv Kayli xoxoxoxo p.s I'd still throw my knickers at him lol.
Ginny Grieco from New Jersey
I've been a mega-fan of Tom's since 1965. He has given me many hours of sheer joy and great happiness with his amazing voice, charisma, and showmanship. I didn't think it was possible, but he seems to get better with time. In all these years, nobody even comes close to "Jones the Voice."
Shez from Cwmbran
I went to see him Friday 16 July 2004 at Cooper's Field, Cardiff Castle - he was fantastic, loads of people dancing. The man has still got it ;)
Sherry Shaw BC Canada (Merthyr roots)
Still has a fab voice, great entertainer. Speaks so proudly of Wales. Should be knighted. My uncle Russ Morgan used to sing in the clubs with him in South Wales back in the days. Our favorite song from Tom and my uncle is the Green Green Grass of Home - funny, it was originally an American song.
Sharon Harman from Louisiana
Saw Tom sing in Las Vegas Aug 25, 2004.
His voice is still great and I love to hear him sing. However, he needs to
rethink his baggy shirt and silly dancing.
Glenys Sanby from Pontypridd
Tom is a great guy..he has done a lot for Wales and should get a knighthood - a great singer.
Mike Fletcher from Newport
Saw him on Friday 16th July '04 at Cooper's Field, Cardiff Castle. He was awesome. I have never seen such a wide range of fans at a concert: Ok - Girls from young dolly birds up to ladies older than my mother, fair enough - but 1000s of blokes of all ages too.
It was my first TJ concert, and one of the best I've ever been to.
Jeanette from Wisconsin USA
Tom is still proud to be Welsh. Even after all the fame and fortune he seems to have remained down-to-earth and 'normal'. It is always wonderful to hear him speaking of his links to Wales. I think his Welsh roots are a big part to do with this.
Arnold Foster from Blackpool
It is difficult to say so-and-so is the best out of all the singers I've heard in sixty years. However, let's put it this way, I'm still listening to find a singer that can to be said to be better than TOM JONES! He is so UNUSUAL! What makes him the best is not just his powerful voice when he sings but his VERSATILITY! He just seems to be able to sing any song yet make it his own in his own inimitable way!
Brian Giles from Swindon, ex Ponty resident)
I have known Tom since we were at the Criterion. He is no bum. He is just Tom and a man with talents, so don't call my mate a bum please as he is one of us.
Janeen Plomondon from Littleton, Colorado
I think Tom Jones is cool and wears sexy clothes. My grandma, mother, and aunt also really like him. My favorite Tom Jones song is 'It's Not Unusual'. I hope I have a chance to see him in concert one day.
Mandy Tomey from Dorset
Love him - very sexy. Even my cat is called Tom.
Tom Terry from North Carolina
Tommy Scott and the Senators...what a band! Some of Tom Jones most sought after collectables are under that name.
Sam Woody from Newport
One word for Tom Jones, HERO!
They guy is amazing and his songs will always boom round Cardiff at rugby matches.
Lucia from Slovakia
I became a TJ fan when I was 16. Now I am 19 year old. I say that Tom Jones is the greatest singer of the world. He has a beautiful voice and fantastic look. I love all Tom songs. He's Tiger Tom!
Leslie Plomondon from Denver, Colorado
Tom Jones is handsome, sings fabulous music, and is a fantastic dancer. I love attending his concerts. He has a versatile repertoire. And next to Elvis, is the sexiest man I have ever known.
Gareth Owen from Rhymney
Is it true that he once stole a turkey from Fochriw club?
Christine Palmer in Vancouver
I emigrated to Canada in 1980 and often used Tom Jones as a reference when people would ask what accent I had. I still have it, I might add - and am proud of it too. I saw him live in the Capitol theatre in Cardiff over thirty years ago and he was fantastic. His voice and charisma are as good today as they has ever been. If anyone deserves a knighthood, he definitely does - Sir Tom Jones certainly does have a good ring to it.
Lisa Spilios in Louisville, Ohio, USA
Tom is an absolutely dynamic performer. His voice is unsurpassed. His charisma is loved by millions. He continues to thrill & please both his longstanding fans & his ever-growing list of new ones. He's the best!
Martha Cleveland in Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Tom Jones has the greatest voice in the world. Saw him in Vegas this week and his performance was excellent. The Queen should knight him for his talent.
Peter Davies in Adelaide, Australia
Been to see Tom in his last two visits to Adelaide, and will go again if he returns. You know that he has that special quality when you look at who goes to his shows - all ages. And they all end up dancing together and having fun - not many entertainers can achieve that!
Belinda in Albuquerque, New Mexico
He's like iron wrapped in velvet, able to shake the rafters one minute and make me cry the next. Best of all, he is still creative, still perfecting his craft. Rock on is right!
Denise Healey from Massachusetts, USA
I made my pilgrimage to Cardiff to see him in his beautiful homeland. How very special the people of Wales are. Many people had a Tom tale to delight me with. He is a fine example of his heritage, and the world is richer for 'knowing' him.
Dina Voormeij from Hoorn, Holland
For 40 years now, I've never heard any performer with a greater voice than Tom Jones, and with such charisma! Along with Elvis and Sinatra, Tom has also been, and always will be, a household name.
Ann Lawlor
He has a good strong voice, and his popularity hasn't waned in all the years I have been a fan. He is absolutely brilliant.
Cathy Smith from St Catherines
His voice has always made good and bad times better. Because of him I've learned about Wales. When he sings I listen. What a voice! My daughter is now a fan and loves a number of the songs he sings!
Maria Duro from Vancouver
He gives his fans lots of happiness with his music. As the years go by, his voice is gold. Tom should be knighted by the Queen - he deserves that award for his fantastic career and for putting Wales on the map.
Richard from Newport
Tom is an absolute legend. It just isn't a Wales International without a rendition of Delilah before it! An honestly nice guy, who was a pioneer of Welsh rock. Rock on Tom!
Cynthia Epker from Voorhout, Netherlands
I used to live in Tower Street ... we used to dance in Patsy's, Treforest, every Saturday night with all his friends. I was very young at the time - it was great fun. After dancing, we'd go to the fish shop and he would sing all the way home. I can also remember him when he was a small boy singing on the neighbour's balcony, dressed up as Al Jolson and singing Mammy.
Nicholas from Toronto
Let's hear more about PJ Proby - what a great voice. Vice Franklyn, Toronto's answer to Frank Sinatra who lived near Tom Jones, and John Rawls who had a hit called Cheryl Mona Marie. All are superstars like Tom Jones but never get exposure.
John Hopkins, a Rhondda exile in Canada
I migrated in 1986. People would ask where I was from, as the Welsh accent isn't well-known here (unlike the Irish and Scots). Wales - oh yeah - Tom Jones and Richard Burton. Tom and Richard put Wales on the map for a lot of foreigners.
Dave from Pontypridd
My uncle used to chuck Tom out of the Regent club in Hopkinstown. When I asked my uncle why, he said 'Cos he's a bum!' How right he was.
