I was on a bus in Machester the other day. A guy got on the bus and I looked at him and a shiver went down my spine. I didn't ask the guy if he was the Steve Strange that had the pleasure of knowing from my days living in London in the Early eighties. I used to go to Club for Heroes etc. Steve won't remember me. But he did have a huge impact on me as a person. Yesterday I was in Manchester again and was reading an article in a magazine about Poptastic (a disco movement). Steve Strange is one of the DJs. Which means it WAS Steve Strange who got on the bus. I wish I had said hello to him. But next time I will. I still play the old music including Visage so, as they say in the soul circuit, Keep the Faith.
Jesus Pereira, Montevideo, Uruguay, South America
Steve, there is no doubt a real artist. I remember those days, and nowadays I am listening again to his music.I think that the music bands who are still playing with Visage's style must pay tribute to Steve as a new wave pioneer.
Drew
Visage! always on my playlist, bring back new romantic!
Alex from Devon
There has never been anything that comes remotely close to Damned Don't Cry or Fade to Grey. You were an integral part of making the 80's so fantastic. Thanks Steve.
Carla Roxanne
Watching Celebrity Scissorhands without Steve is like watching paint dry - Steve is ace!!!!
Mike from London
The guy is a legend....nuff' sed people!! C'mon Lee Stafford @ Scissorhands... give the man a break, he's doing his best!!

Grew up with Steve and still growing. Gone through change as he has had ups and downs as I have. Good to see there is hope for us all. Well done Steve, keep on rockin mate - we all love you x
Chloe Hughes from Newbridge
Steve Strange is amazing! When he was younger he used to live behind my mam! I love him so much, I adore the fabulous Steve Strange!!!!!
Ray Mayhew, London
I hope Visage Mk2 plays again soon - they have a good updated sound, but have not spoiled the vibe of the original tracks either.
Michelle, South Wales
I met Steve on the train today....what a really nice guy.
Eloy Salazar, Tijuana, Mexico

Nancy Rodic from Melbourne Australia
My husand just bought me a copy of Steve's autobiography 'Blitzed'. Both of us were fans of Visage and still are. What can I say except that I read the book and from page 1 I was hooked. I could not put it down. Steve, the life you have led is just mind boggling. So full of fun, excitement and during many times, disappointment. I was so drained by the end of the book and very emotional. Brilliant job. I just wish I could go on reading. Congratulations on turning your life around. I'm sure mum, sister Tanya and your loving beloved Gran are all very proud of you.
julie redding
I am origanally from Pantside too, i did not really have much to do with him even though I was quite friendly with his sister Tanya. Apparantly my dad sold him one of his first guitars???? He was a true inspiration to all that aspired to be different and for this I admired him and loved his new sense of music that he gave us.
Arif from Turkey
Fade to grey...devenir à gris...One of the most inspiring songs of a whole decade...Never ceased listening to it...
Emman Voino from Athens, Greece
Steve really affected my first music insticts. For me, his first record is one of the best music records ever!! We would definitely love to see him in Athens as well!!
Paul Craddock from Market Harborough
Does anyone know if Visage will be touring in the near future and who is Steve's Management Co?
Marcelo from Uruguay, South America
I was a faithful follower of Steve; he was oneof my idols, when I was 16 years old. I used to dress like him.Currently I keep some records, in vinyl, and still enjoy Fade To Grey.
Cassie, Wigan
Would love to meet you Steve - I'll come and get my haircut if you do Scissorhands again, hope you do.
Kelly
Love new single Diary of a Madman - hope videos to follow. Steve, you are a gorgeous hunky legend.
Claire, Newcastle
Steve, you have so many new fans and us old(er) ones. You look so beautiful these days - please tour again and be on TV soon. Think you'd be ace on Strictly Come Dancing, the web site actually rumoured it.
Kate
Steve, I love you all over again. Great to see you on TV - Scissorhands 2008 needs you. I remember following you and Visage when I should have been in school.
Emma from East Sussex

Robin Neale, Cornwall
Keep going Steve! You are the founder member of the New Romantic movement. We are all behind you with a massive bank of fans. Remember the Camden Palace and Crocs in Rayleigh, Essex...
David, Toronto, Canada
All who made and purveyed Visage were spirits. As the French say, l'union fait la force. From the well of creativity comes such a thing as Visage, and if the outside is indicative of the inside I say drink deeply the cool waters. Visage represented the best of our culture, with roots in history and art. Viva amor, viva glam. A special hello to the Visage girls, if my memory serves Perry and Lorraine. Good on you Steve for being a survivor. In vino, David x
Mandy Schaffer, Romford
I always liked Steve Strange - used to watchyou DJ and even used to see you in Visage when I was a young romantic. Keep on going - we love you.
Sam (female)
Steve Strange is absolutely fab. Love his laid back attitude, his look is just fab too. Would love to meet him.
Devon from Phoenix, AZ, USA
Oh Steve, you're even an inspiration to we unfortunates across the pond. I love your face and your voice. I hope life is kinder to you in the future than it has been in the past.
Ermanno Riviezzo from Italy
Thank You Steve. Thank You and thank to the other Visage Musicians..... Thank You for "Fade to Grey", the New Romantic anthem. It's the perfect electro-pop act we have to listen to, expecially in the night, in that moment, when we wish our life.... wouldn't be so long.
Angela from New Zealand
I have the highest respect for Steve Strange - in fact I'm in awe of him! He has certainly captured my heart that's for sure ;) Not only is he extremely talented but he is gorgeous - look at those lovely blue eyes :0Steve Strange is indeed a wonderful person!
Susan, Newbridge
Grew up with Steve, and in the same class, and agree with Neil, he did not go to Oakdale Comprehensive, but Greenfield Secondary School. Spent many hours in Steve's company, painting nails and putting on make-up, talking about music and dance. He was one of the girls.
Dean, Blackpool
Steve is an icon a pioneer & visionary. I would like to use this forum to thank him from the bottom of my heart for shaping my life. I remember being that 15 year old New Romantic in 1980/81 full make up dyed black spiked hair(that week), hand tailored silk pegs and wrapover shirt. Got a few digs from people but the popularity with the girls was more than enough compensation. Visage are top and always will be. You can keep your Coldplays & Babyshambles - where's the style gone? Steve carries it with him - Midge has faded to grey, but Steve still shines like the Moon Over Moscow. X
Clare, Essex
Hi Steve, would like to say thank you for your awesome music. The 80's wouldn't have been the same without you. Was great seeing you on Celebrity Scissorhands - you're a wonderful person, would love to meet you one day and give you a big hug! You take care and I wish you good health and happiness for the future. Love lots xxx
Brandon
I think he looks fabulous!
Amanda, London
U are the 80's....... I'm listening to Visage by Visage at the moment never fails to give me goosebumps. We all love you Steve, I hope you get to read these marvellous tributes to you. I still see Princess Julia around DJ'ing and she is always lovely. I wish I had been a Blitz regular. I was a bit too young and living in Glasgow at the time. I stand outside where it used to be sometimes. I can only imagine. Be well Steve, lots of love and best wishes.
Joe Beer, Hayle
You have always been in our hearts and we can't wait to see you again this year when you tour with Visage Mk2. You do have fans everywhere who love you.
Mandy, Halesowen, West Midlands
It's great to see so many tributes to Steve. It just proves that the appreciation of him is still alive and kicking. When he was on Celeb Scissorhands, I logged onto their website, and was amazed to see how many people were rooting for him! They weren't necessarily fans, but they loved him all the same. I bought the Visage video collection on DVD last year, and when my hubby is out, I put it on and just drool (especially The Damned Don't Cry video!) Does he look fit on that or what? I'm celebrating my 40th birthday this month (Mar 07), and am having a party at home where I will be making sure Visage feature heavily amongst the music. I'd love Steve to be a surprise guest!!!!
Baza, Newcastle
I would love to see Visage. Met Steve on holiday - he is a very sociable and friendly person. Got some great photos amd had a great night. Carry on being creative, Steve - best of luck for the future.
Sean from Pantside
He was from Pantside so why do you write Newbridge?
Dwayne Death
I still think the world of Steve Strange. I saw a little clip of him in his new flat and he was talking on how he was going to decorate it. He had his mother, sister and nephews with him and I was touched as he spoke so warmly of his nephews - they are little cuties!! Steve's a good man, a true pioneer - the world is a better place because of him. I will always think the world of Steve Strange.
Howard
Steve, you are and always will be a star. You were the making of Celebrity Scissorhands. Don't ever change - hugs.
Ben Russ (age 21), Odessa, Texas, USA
Steve - you are an inspiration for me and many others. Thanks for all of your hard work over the years and for everything you do. You are one of my heroes.
Paul James, Hampshire
I saw Steve Strange on TV a few nights ago - he said he wrote Fade To Grey?
(Editor's Note: Writing credits for the song are given to Billy Currie, Christopher Payne and Midge Ure, although Wikipedia reports interviews in which Steve appears to suggest he had a hand in writing the lyrics)
Liz Clemens, Cornwall
My best mate and I used to follow them around in the 80s - we were mad Ultravox and Visage fans. She used to love Steve Strange - her bedroom was filled with him. We went to the Camden Palace to see him once - wot a great place. She's dead now - she died in 1991 of kidney faliure. At the funeral she had Fade To Grey and a big picture of him. She was I think his biggest fan - keep going Steve xxx
Sally from North Yorkshire
I had my hair done by Steve on Celebrity Scissorhands. Steve is a really nice genuine guy (though must admit, Steve, I was very nervous!) Now it's like, "who is gonna do my hair?" Here's hoping Steve will carry on the good work! I wish you well in everything you do Steve and would love it if you ever decided you would like to come up north. I will put you up in the hotel - maybe you could come and do my hair again? I would love to spend a couple of hours just chatting you are such an interesting person. Thanx Steve xxx PS say hello to Lee hmm X
Julia Banks, Manchester
Steve, you are a great guy, you are so funny. I loved you on Celebrity Scissorhands - you made me laugh! To me you were the star of the show. I've not read your book yet but I will now. I hope you find happiness in every thing you do. After Scissorhands I'm now a fan - I love you Stevie mate!! Are you still mates with Lee? Ha!
John, Hull
After meeting Midge Ure late last year it appears it wasn't Steve Strange that wrote Fade To Grey, it was Mr Ure!
(Editor's Note: Don't think anyone said Steve wrote the song...)
Nicola, Llantrisant, South Wales
Steve you are Fab, you have been so entertaining on sissorhands and you seem such a gentle man with lovely qualities, hope you go from strength to strength from here on in, stay healthy and lucky. Hope to see more of you on TV. Best of luck!
Nicola, Llantrisant, South Wales
Steve you are Fab, you have been so entertaining on Scissorhands and you seem such a gentle man with lovely qualities. Hope you go from strength to strength from here on in, stay healthy and lucky. Hope to see more of you on TV. Best of luck!
Shar
I remenber Steve from his Wigan Casino days when he travelled up with a whole crowd of people from Blackwood. Great guy then - only 14/15 but stood out from the crowd. Looking for something different and moved onto the Blackpool Mecca scene that was more funky and stylish. Great guy. Love you on Scissorhands Steve. We need you back. You go boy!
The Clarkes, Northern Ireland
What a great man you are Mr Strange. A star in the making again. xx
Claudio Helden, Rome
Steve Strange is the number 1, Visage are the number 1, Fade To Grey song and video are the number 1. I'm a fan from 1980 (Bowie and Steve's "Ashes To Ashes" Video), I met Steve at The Camden Palace and he was a great person too. He created New Romantic culture and he's really a subvalued artist. Hoping to have official DVDs about his clubs and Visage's TV appearences and remastered CD with bonus audio and video tracks!
Donna Collins, Cornwall
Great to see you back in the limelight Steve - you have been missing far too long! I was (& still am) a massive Steve Strange/Visage fan in the 80's (just see all my old school books with 'Steve is rare' scribbled all over them!). Others stole his crown and got the glory for shaping the 80's music/club scene but we all know the truth! So glad to see you back Steve - this thread shows what a huge fan base you still have - we love you!
Lynzi White, Barwick, Leeds
Wow what can I say but what an amazing guy. I read Steve's book last Xmas after not really knowing that much about him other than he was in Visage and sang Fade to Grey in the 80's. Out of all the autobiographies I've read this one really touched me and since then I've become a huge fan. When I'm next in Ibiza clubbing I'll rememebr that I have Steve to thank for the whole club culture. Hope to see much more of you in the future Steve. LUV YA.
Leighton, Porthcawl
I have known Steve for about 8 years while working on Trecco Bay in bars. I got speaking to him and he was a gent but had a few demons in his life which as someone who knows him he have come on leaps and bounds. When I do see him around town I would like a hair cut but he has still got the shakes. Well done Steve - keep the good work up.
Mandy, West Midlands
I'm so appreciating seeing Steve on Celebrity Scissorhands. I know he's put himself through hell in the past, but hopefully that's behind him now. He's looking so good these days, and it's nice to know he's still got his sense of humour. I loved his book, and I love the fact that he's always been close to his family. If anyone is reading this that knows his mum, then please tell her that she is an amazing lady! I'd give my right arm to be able to get in touch with him, if only to tell him I love him and always will.
Chris from Hastings
Steve we love ya my son.
Simon Parkes, Leeds
Steve was THE icon of the new romantics, witn the coolest song ever Fade to Grey and THE best video of all time to accompany it. Brilliant, sexy and cool 20 years on!
Mark the Spark, Caerphilly
Steve is a true star! Good luck for the future Steve, it was good to see you again in Porthcawl the other day....
Mitch from Essex
Hi Steve, I've got the records, read the book and followed your career since the early 80's - Fade to Grey and Night Train (Dub) are total classics. Thanks for kickstarting the nightclub scene in the UK and Ibiza, hopefully you'll get the recognition you deserve as time passes. Whenever you're having a low moment, remember all these comments listed here Steve, you're loved and appreciated by many many people. Take care of yourself.
Siouxzanne, Belfast
Hello Steve - Well! What can one say about class?!? I have been a fan since I was 8 years old in 1980 and my brother bought me your Visage album. I am still a good fan today - I like all the music you and Visage made, it is and was truly magnificent. Thank you for being a great face maker like "regis huet" and I hope Celebrity Scissorhands gets you some more recognition on today's music and celeb scene.
A true star and a big genius who looks like a lovely we teddy bear. Love you as a sister would xxxooo. PS Steve you would be very pleasantly surprised to find you probably have millions of fans out in the ether.
Nichola Hayward, Newbridge
I worked with Steve's sister and it was while he was in a dark place in his life. I'm full of admiration of how hard Steve has worked his way back onto our screens. This local boy has done us proud again and yes, Fade To Grey is a true classic.
Allison, Cardiff
I was nuts about Visage and collected all their songs. I loved the music and look of the New Romantics and once vivted Newbridge to see where Steve came from. I kept all his photos, drew pictures of him. Hope Steve is well and loved his autobiography. Wicked x
Martin
I love Steve, love his music, his autobiography, and every thing he does. He's a legend and a real star - I hope he makes another record, love you Steve.
Tuncay Ceyhan, Gumbet, Turkey
He's a lovely person. Everybody don't know hım but I know. Also he's so strange. All tımes I watchıng hım. I just say hello from Turkey.
Paul Mitchell, Devon
I met Steve this year on holiday in Egypt. What a great guy. In those two weeks it felt like he told us his complete life story and all of this was confirmed after reading Blitzed. I'm honoured to be able to call the guy a friend and we still keep in touch. I was growing up in the eighties and it was so cool to meet such an inspirational character from the time. A genuine nice guy. Thanx Steve!!!!
Nicola, Cefn Cribwr, South Wales
A big 80's music fan so Steve Strange and Visage was a great fave. Fade To Grey was and is a fantastic song. Can't wait to read the book. Only just realised that I work with his mother who is a fantastic woman. Good luck Steve.
keith from newbridge
Steve was my best friend and did not go to Oakdale Comprehensive as he went to the same school as me. He went to Greenfield Comprehensive.
A Evans, Pantside, Newbridge
Steve lived just down the road from me and I can always remember him saying he was going to make something of his live. Well done Steve, you gave us valley boys hope after all. You're a hero back home at Pantside, Newbridge, and we welcome you back any time.
Wayne Mather, Wythenshawe
Without Steve Strange (real name Harrington) the New Romantics of the 80s would never be. I haven't read the book yet but can't wait to. He influenced my life in so many ways - not to mention giving me the guts to wear make up. This was a very big deal for a boy especially living in Wythenshawe.
Taka, Tokyo Japan
I am glad to hear that Steve Strange is making a comeback after all these years. The new romantics movement was a big influence in the music and fashion scene in the 80s Japan as well, and there are still many fans of the movement here. I really wish to have Steve Strange and his newly formed band Visage Mk II come and perform here in Japan as well. I still cannot get that "Fade To Grey" sound out of my head since the early 80s ... it is still so stimulating. Thanks for the experience Steve!
Star
I know Steve from way back and didnt know till now who he was and is! Wow Steve You never fail to suprise me
Gav from London
I think Steve Strange is a great image maker. He was not the musician in the original visage though. His mistake was falling out with Midge Ure - who wrote/produced most of the songs. It went downhill from there when Midge Ure left. Beat Boy was a disaster. Love Glove was a great single but never got anywhere. I heard the new song "In the Dark" and that is def the right direction - retro/synth/europop feel.
A. Mcandrew, Bridgend
Been a big fan of Steve Strange since Fade To Grey, still my all time fave single. Sounds so good even today as Kelly Osbourne found out when she sampled it! I agree with all when talking about the book - you just couldn't put it down, such a good read. Only live about 15 mins from Porthcawl and would love to bump into him - it would make my year! Steve, you deserve a big hand for making some of the best music ever - WAY TO GO MATE!!
Craig Bayes from Romford, Essex
It just comes to show that the 80s are well and truly back where they belong ON TOP! It's funny as I was born in 1987 and am now nearly 19 and grew up with most of of the nineties trash. Luckily mum had brought me up with all the 80's stuff especially Visage. Growing up in the nineties to me was me just going back a decade and Steve was my hero even leading me to discove my mum's makeup set - well, mascara anyway only cos it brought out my eyes. Thanks Steve you're still my idol. Fade to Grey rocks and long live the 80s.
Marco Rumkorf, Haarlem, Netherlands
Great music, nice voice, listen to it at least once a month for 25 years. I've read his book, unbeliveable - what a story. I wish I meet Steve once in my life. Steve, I wish you all the luck.
Wells, Tokyo, Japan
Anyone know if Steve/Visage will be making an appearance in Japan this year? I have been living here since January and can confirm that there are many fans. When I tell people that I am from the UK they often ask whether I am a fan of Steve. The New Romantic style that he pioneered is still very much on show at Harajuku Park, Tokyo on a Sunday. If Steve is reading this then I would recommend coming over to Tokyo for a couple of gigs!
Das 2. Gesicht - Bremen, Germany
Great - the Visage videos are out on DVD!
But where is the new single and album by Visage Mk II? Please don't let us wait any longer, Steve! And by the way: please re-release the 3 Visage albums from the 80s in remastered and expanded issues. Especially "Frequency 7" (the vocal version from the first single "Tar") should be on the first one! Kind regards from a German fan!
Emily London
Steve is a genius and I am glad that the 80's is in VOGUE !!
I am loving the 80's come back kids and HERE AND NOW is perfect as is the whole Hit me baby one more time spectacle!
www.rainbowtrust.org.uk is holding a huge 80's night in June and I think it will be a night of nostalgia.
I for one can not wait. Steve Strange started the whole club scene so lets party like the best of them!
Deanna A, San Antonio, Texas (USA)
I have been a fan of Visage and the whole New Romantic movement since I was 12 years old (i.e. over half a lifetime ago). Steve Strange was always one of those guys whom I would look at with a great deal of awe and reverence, because his sense of style and flamboyance seemed brave and daring to me. I think of Steve Strange as being one of my pop cultural heroes, an icon of style, and someone whose music I will always be a fan of.
Andy Borg,Germany
Steve played a Large role in my teenage years,The music he made will Live forever, would be great to hear something from him again,im sure it would be a great success like all his other hits.well done Steve.
David Candland, Salt Lake City, Utah
Glad to hear that Steve is back at it. My fascination with Visage has always been hard to put into words. I remember hearing "Fade To Grey" in 1981/82 when some girls performed a dance to it at a high school assembly. "Whoa," I thought. This was in Utah and I had never heard anything like it before; Human League,Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet, and ABC where just around the corner here in the States. Hope things look up for you Mr. Strange and please, please release "Beat Boy" on CD! Thanks.
tony thompson, liverpool

Great to see Steve back on the track. I listen to Visage everyday and have done that since -81. Hope to hear some new release soon... Steve will never Fade to grey...
Jacqueline Logan, Livingston, Scotland
Just started Steve's book yesterday and during work i keep nipping to the loo to read a chapter....loving it! Always been interested in Steve as i love anyone who is different to the norm and wakes people up to the possibilities to being your own person.
Never follow the crowd.
Tania Cleveland, Abergavenny
I watched a documentary on Steve Strange a while back and was fascinated. I have seen Phil Salon at Bagley's as he was a friend of my brother's friend. I have also visited emporium and other clubs mentioned in his book. I really got into the book Blitzed which I recently purchased and related to Newport, Cwmbran and Cardiff from living in Abergavenny and goin out in Newport etc. Wish I was around in those very early days as mentioned on the book, but I wasn't born!
Well done to Steve for creating such a good thing in London where I was born.
Simon Chance, Bristol
Although looking backward wasn't really what it was all about, Steve may be amused to know that I am going to a fancy dress ball on New Year's Eve - wearing the exact same outfit I wore at his St Valentine's Day Ball at the People's Palace, Camden Town back in 1981. Never tire of listening to the original stuff, well done on keeping it together all this time and thanks for some incredible memories!
Sledhicket, Los Angeles
Go Steve! and yes i have a 7" version of Frequency 7 with vocals.........no DOUBT the orig instrumental is Groundbreaking Stuff, waaaaaaaaaaay before Daft Punk....
Stefania Tiezzi, Pisa, ITALY
I fell in love with Steve Strange in summmer 1981 when I saw him on TV singing and dancing 'Fade to Grey' with his two beatiful dancers.I thought he was the most handsome boy on earth. It is impossible to describe what I did to meet him, but I was not able to.
Now I am 35, I never got married.I still love him and I would like to let him know that my love will be always near him.Steve, don't be sad, I love you.I wish to meet you, someday.
Spider - Devon
Fade to Grey - timeless classic. I will never get bored with this song. Steve - you are a genuis and we love you loads, xx
steve cardiff
is it true you have re-recorded
fade to grey with "dv8"
Alastair from Ilford
Steve was part of my youth - all the new romantic thing - remember Gary Barnes (Trojan) and Leigh B!!!
Max from Milano
In that period the music of Visage wasn't
just an enjoyment for me. It gave me the
opportunity to know myself much better.
Thanks to Steve Strange and all the Visage
team.
Alan Purves, London
I saw Steve on BBC2 on Sunday night and he looked fantastic. The highlight of the show was the footage of Steve as doorman for 'Blitzed' turning people away because they didn't meet his dress-code!! I still go to the club in Covent Garden that was once 'Blitzed' in the hope of bumping into Steve!!
Mark Worley, Northampton
It may not have had Steve singing on it but frequency 7 is without a doubt on of the most influential electronic records of all time! I have heard there maybe a vocal version or is it just a Visage trainspotter myth!
Helen Roberts from Lancashire
Thank you Steve for being who you are and in turn making the 80s the best time of our lives. It wouldn't have been the 80s without you! Good luck and good health for the future. 'Blitzed' was a great book and 'Fade to Grey' is the best record ever. We love and support you.
Marie Callan Edinburgh
It was great to see you on Channel 4. You look fantastic. I hope to see Visage2 in bonnie scotland. good luck Steve you deserve it. Your mum is a beautiful lady. I've already seen you live and i would love to see you live again, as you are the best in the world, love you always xxxxxx
Terry Hall , Burnley
I remember going to Club for Heroes on Baker St in London. It was another one of Steve Strange clubs. Without people like Steve the 80s would have been boring as Hell. Good luck to him.
Paul & Andrew, Cardiff
His songs will live on forever, beyond the year 2525! - Come on record companies re-release 'Beat Boy' on cd and stop ebay selling naff copies. Long live Visage!!!
Juan Turienzo, Ibiza
I was a regular visitor at Steve Strange's club night in Ibiza. The nightclub scene in Ibiza has never been the same since Steve left Ibiza. Please come back to Ibiza, Senor Strange! We still love you!!
Karl Du Welles, Lincoln
Saw Gender Benders on TV on Monday night and reminded me what an awesome, mental time the early 80's were. I remember Steve on the door of Blitzed(?) in Covent Garden and had to dress pretty extravagently to get in! He certainly ran a wicked nightclub though my memories are rather hazy!!
LOZ WILLIAMS from Warrington
what else can you say about him, he was and still is fantastic.
Gary, Herts
Steve Strange, what a guy. Good to see him back on the scene again after all his problems over the years. Anyone know how to get hold of the new tracks he has been recording with Visage 2?
Been a follower since the early 80's and Fade To Grey is my all time fave track.
Deb Barnett (nee Stephens)
I remember him visiting his mother and sister at the top of the Pant. I was friends with his sister at the time that he was making it big in London with Midge Ure, etc. What a party he had! I think the top of the Pant is still recovering. I often wonder where they are.
Max , Milano

Ian George, Milton Keynes
Steve Strange, what a guy! Him and Gary Numan got me into making music. I even wanted to make a kind of cult thing here up in MK with a band called Elegance before I moved to London. Great to see him back over his recent tragedies and events. Made me wish I was living in London in the early 80s - it must have been a blast because of him and most of the other electronic bands. My secondary school was Blitz Kid/ Cult with no Name/ New Romantic /Machine Music Central. The Anvil is still one of the very coolest nightclub tracks along with Move Up and We move. Thank you Steve you were one of the greatest.
Mark Broughton, Rhoose near Cardiff
Steve Strange was my hero. I was a new romantic in the 1980s and Fade To Grey has to be my all time favourite song. Steve was the pioneer and everyone else followed. Can't wait to see his comeback!!!!!
Mandy, West Midlands
I was an avid Visage fan at the age of 14, Steve Strange dominated my life. But as the years passed, I drifted onto other groups ( as you do). And now 24 years on, I'm currently halfway through reading Blitzed, and I can honestly say that I am in love all over again. I've never seen Visage live, hope I do so one day. How many other 46 year old men can look as gorgeous as they did 20 years before? Yes, Steve Strange still does it for me - I still would!
Jasmin , Lincoln ,NE
Steve Strange is one of the biggest influences in my life! He inspires me to design and create! The most beautiful man EVER!

The greatest pop stars of all time and a true innovator. Oh and I hope that Visage are receiving royalties from THAT Kelly Osborne’s single.
Marie Callan
I've been a fan since I was 11 years old. I waited 22 years to see him live at Newcastle. It was totally worth the wait. Hope to see you in Edinburgh very soon. Also I want to marry you, and I have Welsh blood in me. Love you forever.
Peter Henslowe, Londoner living in New York
Steve Strange is a genius I always think of him when dressing up going out. I am still a new romantic on weekends. AMAZING.
Paul Crowson, Cape Town
As an exiled Londoner living in Cape Town I live a pretty wonderful life, but must admit to a sense of regret that I miss out on the Visage comeback gigs, not much chance of a Visage appearance in South Africa I fear!! Anyway it is great to hear that Steve Strange is doing so well. The 1980's and the new romantic scene certainly shaped my life, though i'm not sure it would be good for my health to go through it all again!
Michael Holman, Loughton
Love The Damned Don't Cry, best record ever, played it a million times.
Tony Siqueido, Los Angeles
Steve Strange is one of my favorite characters in music. I recently checked out the website (www.visage-music.com). Not a whole lot to see (however, the band photo on the home page is well worth the click), but if the light-hearted rumors are true,...it would be cool to see him perform again. Probably will never happen over here (Los Angeles)...I envy you bastards!...ha ha ha. As for the drugs?...well...uh...I'm afraid it's just "Part of the genius!,..so to speak. I'll "try" to send him an email of encouragement. Y'all can reap the rewards at his next live show.....uh...you're welcome...ha ha ha
Peace Love Heaven.
Paul Witter, Somerset
I have always believed that the three greatest music videos of all time are 'ashes to ashes' by Bowie, 'fade to Grey' by Visage, and the original 'band aid'. But recently it occurred to me that all three videos star Steve Strange - so well done Steve!!
Jeff
Well, he is clearly the best ever Welsh man because I cannot think of anyone else from there, at all. Though clearly he is not a well man.
Neil Formula, Camber Sands, Kent
Anyone who saw Kelly Osbourne's recent copy of Fade to Grey, sorry, new single will have noticed the tremendous influence that Steve Strange continues to hold over the world of pop music.
H Inamoto, Osaka
Living in Tokyo in the 1980's, the imagery of Steve Stranges face's on advertisements for electronic product, especially on Tokyo subwey, meant he was the David Beckham of 1980's Japan. There belong many fan still of Visage in Japan in 2005 and his return to Japan is hoped for!!
Jorge Alvetarez from Santiago, Chile
Incredible to find so many fellow fans of Steve! Memories return from the summer of 1982. I was graduating from university and the 'New Romantic' style was the fashion at graduation day!! I remember Visage all-night concert on the beach at Temuco - what an incredible night! Good to hear Steve is still so popular!
C Fells from Guildford
I remember recently spotting Steve in a motorway service station. The excitement caused me to drop my just-purchased English Breakfast on the floor! I was a big fan of his in the 80's and despite the fact that I had to spend £7.99 on another breakfast I still believe that the man is a legend!!
Martin Greenway, Kent
I can't believe that Steve wasn't part of Live8 as I'm sure those who were around in the 80's will have remembered him starring in the band aid video etc. Still great anyway to see so many others recognising his mercurial talent.
D Smith, Telford
I'm sure I saw Steve Strange on a dolmush (minibus) in Gumbet in Turkey in June this year. Does anyone know if he performs there?
Christopher Wrench
Still listening to 'The Anvil' - brings back many memories of hedonstic nights at Ku Club in Ibiza!
C .van Hall, Arnhem, Holland
Just bought 'Blitzed!'. Very influential person from the 80's. I can remember that in Melbourne, Australia there was a Blitz Night mondaynights. Still gathering the playlist from that time and still acknowledge the main role that Steve Strange was playing at that era of music and style. The music still stands, and I would like to add, that I cannot imagine reading that 'The Damned Don't Cry' was put down by the British press. In 2005, where I just bought the collection cd with the same name, is still leaving an immense impression on me. So good to read, that Steve Strange is back to sanity and new energy again. Thanks to google, I will follow his new track(s)...
David M Vinen, Min Y Coed
I'm not sure that Steve would remember me, but I spent one of the most enjoyable nights of my life with Steve Strange and others back in the early 80's doing a 'pub crawl' of the London underground Northern Line! So thanks Steve for a truly memorable night!!
Gareth Le Prevost, Guernsey
Was at the Visage comeback in London back in April 2005 and loved Steve's new look. Despite suffering from bronchial pneumonia he put in a tremendous performance, with the new material going down very well indeed.
C J Wilson, Scotland
We move. Best song of all time. Simple as that. Classic.
Philip Vernon, Chicago
I am so glad to see that Steve is up and about again. Visage was simply the PERFECT pop band PERIOD. Whether it was musicianship, imagination, or capturing the ESSENCE of their time nobody did it better -- nobody. We are all lucky, speaking for those who care, that Duran is back but let's never forget the master(s)!
dave tasker from bargoed
inspired a new trend in the 80 s. CAMP BUT COOL as i discover in my own act as a singer song /writer my self around the south wales valleys ,often compared to Marc Almond but Steve started theMovement. THANKS !
Paul Hynes
Though I've never been into to the "club scene", to me the Visage album 'The Anvil' has to be one of the best ever. The peculiar imagery of Steve and his sidekicks (Perry & Lorraine) still stick in my mind when I listen to it...timeless (Not forgetting to credit Midge Ure of course!)
SC, Cleveland, Ohio --USA
I absolutely love Steve Strange and Visage. Still listening to CD's while driving after all of these years. Great to hear he is still around.
Stuart Hosking, Dundee
The Anvil.Best song of the 1980's.Simple as that.Classic.
Pavel, Germany
Can I just say that Steve is held in the very highest regard by German music fans, and the news that Visage have reformed has been the biggest cause of celebration in this country since Oliver Bierhoff's header in the Euro 96 final. I very much look forward to Steve leading Visage at the Wave Gotik Treffen Festival in Leipzig next month!!
Paul Bisset
Fade to grey. Best song of all time. Simple as that. Classic.
Paul, Reading
The Visage come back starts this saturday night at Electrowerkz in London and showcases the new face and sound of the band.
Lawrie Blaum, Swansea
I can't wait for Steve's much-anticipated comeback with a new-look Visage this year. If one person can revive the currently moribund UK music scene then it is Steve.
Christopher Gull, Bridgend
I was at an 80's night last week in London and the whole club erupted when they played 'Fade to Grey'.Great to see that Steve's genius is still recognised 20 years on.
Cèsar Grillo from Argentina
Saying that me and my friends from Buenos Aires were influenced by this Pioneer in the early 80's speaks about how far Steve catalyzing the New Romantic scene reached and touched many people's lives (even at times when we were at war with England!) I wish him all the best and hope he gets the recognition he deserves!!!
M Bridgewater, Swansea
I went to see 'Taboo', Boy George's 80's based musical, last year and it was amazing to see the number of fans outside the theatre hoping to catch a glimpse of Steve, who was rumoured to be attending. A sign of his continued popularity 20 years after his heyday.
Allan Evans, Cardiff
Loved his music in the 80's. Saw him recently on a TV programme, trying to learn Welsh at the Residential Centre on The Lleyn Peninsular. He gave up early, through illness. He was 45, trying to look 25! I thought he was a bit of a sad figure, still trying to live in the past and on past glories. That's how it seems these days.
DF, New York
Steve Strange discovered the likes of Boy George, Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran, and one hopes that these acts will never forget the fact that but for Steve they would never have had successful careers.
Steve from Porthcawl
Steve Strange was one of the iconic figures of the Welsh punk rebellion towards the end of the last century. He deserves to be honoured for his contribution to the UK music scene, and is still involved in promoting musical talent both in Wales and London.
It's probably a coincidence that he lives here in Porthcawl, the home of the world's biggest Elvis Festival.
I saw Steve out walking today, and he looked really well !
Nick F, Brighton
Great to see Steve's comeback with up and coming outfit DV8 and their remix of that classic 'Fade to Grey'. I hope the British record buying public will show some judgement and ensure that Steve is back where he belongs, in the UK top 40. What a change that would make from the usual rubbish that occupies the charts.
Nicolas Fils De Jeffer, Lille, France
Monsieur Strange's impact on the Paris fashion scene in the 1980's was very significant, with full-length,fox fur coats and Arabian prince's costumes being as commonplace on the streets of Paris as a string of onions and a beret.
CJ Wells, Surrey
Steve and his band Visage provided us with THE song of the 1980's, 'Fade to Grey' and 20 years on is still regarded as a music icon across Europe.
James in Kent
Steve Strange was responsible for bringing 'nightclub culture' to this country. Before Steve masterminded a leisure revolution with his club 'Blitz' there were only discos - a fringe option.
Kevin May, Brighton
The role of Steve Strange in 80's popular culture cannot be overstated. He discovered acts such as Spandau Ballet, started the nightclub revolution, and wrote the defining song of the 80's, Fade to Grey.
Sarah Blanche, Newbridge
He was one of the founders of the New Romantics and as such deserves recognition. After hitting rock bottom he has started to pull himself up by his shoe strings - and good luck to him!
