Rachel Rice Winner of Big Brother 2008

Born:
7 MAR 1984
Place of Birth:
Cwmbran
Famous For:
Winner of Big Brother 2008
Biography:
The trainee teacher has made a name for herself in the Big Brother house.

Rachel was already a familiar face in her home town of Cwmbran as a participant in beauty contests, carnivals and similar events.

As a child actress she appeared in around twenty TV commercials, and in 1992 won her first film role in Night Train to Venice alongside Hugh Grant.

In 2003 Rachel came second runner-up in the Miss Wales Beauty Pageant and won Wales On Sunday newspaper's Welsh Idol competition in 2004.

Lately she had been working as a trainee teacher but will be hoping to make her big break following Big Brother.

Rachel was the second person from Cwmbran to enter the Big Brother house - hairdresser Helen Adams remains one of the programme's most popular ever housemates after being runner-up in the second series in 2001.

Rachel was tipped as a possible winner of this year's contest by The Guardian newspaper before the series started.

I am so glad Rachel won - I wanted her to win from the start. I thought she amazing through it all and I have met her as she lives across the road from me (: xx

Kayleigh from Cwmbran
Love Rachel deserved 2 win :D !!x

Rob, Walsall
Just to add my delight to the thousands of fans who supported Rachel thru thick and thin. She was top of all the website polls. Her fans are truly loyal. When the media ignored her, we didn't. Well done Rach, you deserved it!!!!

Nancy, California, USA
Watched BB on the internet and was delighted to see Rachel win. She stood up to some seriously nasty people and showed tremendous strength of character.

Annmarie Dale Glasgow
So glad rachel won gives meaning to nice people again instead of out and out bullies wish she was a teacher at my daughter school lot to be learned from someone so level headed cant express how strongly I feel about her winning think its fantastic I feel I know her she came accross that way GO RACHEL GO wish you well in all you do Annmarie

Jenny from Somerset
Delighted Rachel won. She more than deserved to do so. Her parents must be extremely proud of her. Thank goodness common sense prevailed in the end. I wanted her to win from the early days. Wish I had put a bet on, but that would have been a first. However, I did vote for her - another first!!!

Eddie from Dundee
Couldn't be more happy Rachel won and boy was I delighted when bully boy Rex was booed. I do hope she returns to acting. If she can become an established actress that would really put Davina's big nose out of joint.

Carl Belmonte, Cumbria
Rachel is pure fab. From day one she has been mountains above all the other housemates in goodness, maturity, cheerfulness, self control, compassion, honesty and general attractiveness of character (and facial beauty too). I had promised myself that if she did not win, I would never watch Big Brother again ever. I wish she were my daughter, sister, mother, aunt, niece, grand daughter and even wife 60 years ago, as I am now 82 years old.

Amy from Cardiff
I am so pleased she won, she really was my favourite all the way through. It didn't matter that she was Welsh (though an added bonus), but she truly was like a shining star in the midst of all the dark and drissle all the other housemates brought. To be fair, some of them were pretty awesome, but Rachel was lovely, kind and positive all the way through, even with all the rubbish that was thrown at her. She truly is Wales' beauty :)

Susan from Edinburgh
I'm glad Rachel won Big Brother. I hope the negative comments from other housemates and some sections of the media don't get to her. She should believe in herself as she has got potential and could go far. There are a lot of jealous people out there.

Marie from South Wales
It's so great to see support for Rachel from all over the country. She was accused of reaping only the welsh vote. That clearly isn't the case with lovely messages from England Scotland and Ireland. Thank you for blowing the silly theory out of the water x

boogaloo from West London
Never, really been a big fan of BB before but this year I got hooked ever since tuning in to the "chipgate" saga by accident. Rachel seemed to by the only voice of reason there and such a lovely person, so I decided to follow and support her through her journey. Very happy that the journey arrived at such a happy conclusion.

Jan From Cardiff
A real worthy winner. Rachel looked after Mikey, took loads of Bullying from the Nasty Chef with millions, she is a worthy winner as they don't come more genuine than her. Good luck for the future, you done Wales proud, and yourself.

O.K.Williams
Has everyone forgot the point she's an actresss?, Big Brother was just another project for her.I was in the same classes as her in school and god she was so two faced and big headed. Also I believe the way she was on the show made us Welsh look stupid. She took crap from that Rex bloke and made daft remarks.Grrr she does my head in.

Evan from Suffolk
Well done Rachel, you made a Welshman in Suffolk very happy.. All the best from Evan Alison Morgan Hannah. When will the English learn!!!!You can win against the Welsh, but you can NEVER BEAT THEM.......

Craig R.
She was my "Student" Teacher for Drama last year. She was the best! She also tought some people English as well.Well done "Miss Rice!"

Brona, Dublin
Hey Rachel, you were and are absolutely fantastic, brill role model for us all. Fun, kind, strong, fair, totally NON drama queen - thank God. Inspiration to us all. You so deserved to win. Hope you and your family get some quality time. Good luck with everthing : )

Newport
She use to teach me english at st Joseph's high school. LOLWell done Miss ;)

Chris Ward - Cwmbran
Woot! Woot! Rachel won - good ! - a most deserving winner She did us all proud !The only downside on Friday was Davina. I thought she was most rude to her, especially when asking her if she was going to share the money with the rest of the housemates ! WHAT?Let her enjoy the glory - she's earned it !

David from Bridgend
Caring for others; thoughtful; never wishing to throw cheap insults about yet willing to face down any of the bullies; not needing to resort to foul language - is there any doubt that the only deserving housemate won? I would be so proud if she was my daughter. A triumph for good manners.

Natalie, Kent
It was not just all of Wales that supported Rachel, some of us in Kent did too. Well done Rachel, a worthy winner. I wish you every success in whatever your future holds.

Othi from London
I think Rachel is a very intelligent young woman. I supported her from day one. I hope Rachel doesn't let anyone make her feel less than the wonderful person she is. Well done.

Rich Lee
Message for Carol from Cwmbran: Can you remind me how much Rachel won???? It's a good point you make but maybe you shouldn't take all of this too seriously....I don't watch BB because I don't like it and maybe you should do the same. Maybe Rachel will do some charity work now she has some money in the bank. Anyway, She seems like a nice enough person anyway and she is an ambassador for South Wales.

Nic - UK
I remember watching her in an episode of Sherlock Holmes when she was 7 ish, God that makes me feel really old. Well done, kindness is rewarded and the universe got a little better.

Mike , Oxford
LLeisiau - Rachel IS a trainee teacher. I'm glad someone like her won.

Jason from Rushden
Now it's all over she'll be going back to Wales to an easier life. Hope you can swim, Rachel!

Rob, Swansea
Well done Rach!! All the best for the future hun!!

Val Davies from Caerleon
Rachel is the worthy winner of BB9. I have supported her all of the way through as she was the only contestant to stay true to herself all of the time. Her family must be rejoicing that they have her in their lives. My faith in the Great British public has been restored and have made the right choice.

Roisin, Hampshire
Congratulations to Rachel for winning Big Brother 9. As said here, it's fantastic that a truly decent and caring person has won. I so enjoyed watching that bully Rex Newmark sucking lemons as she emerged victorious, in spite of his months of verbal abuse and psychological battery against her. She's a genuine, lovely person and thoroughly deserved to win. A credit to Wales. OK, the programme may not appeak to rocket scientists, but it's been great to see a down to earth and thoroughly nice person win out against the pillocks and up-themselves idiots. Now with the money she will make, she'll have time for that voluntary work (of which I do quite a bit myself). Well done, Rachel! :-)

Tony
Good on you Rachel - you were the only one of those idiotic housemates who deserved to win.

Alice from Newcastle
It's high time the British people appreciated real, genuine people and sure that is true with this lady. A true, nice girl who really deserves her celebrity status. She is a role model to young people and honestly those are true people we want to see on our screens. Good Luck Rachel.

Ian from Watford
I watched BB throughout this year and Rachael was my favourite right from the start. She struck me as being a genuinely friendly and positive person. I was amazed that many of her housemates could not see that she was being herself, but I guess that those cynics find it hard to understand that some people are just warmer and happier than themselves? The only times that I was disappointed in Rachael were when she would say "That's fine!" when somebody was being aggressive or insensitive to her. It's OK to tell somebody that they're hurting you Rachel: they may even learn a little bit about effective interpersonal communication if you do! Overall, a worthy winner and I am pleased for her. Go girl!

Danny Holmes from Kettering
Nice people do win, Rachel's a class act.

Joolz Mitchell, Newport
Well done, you deserve to win after all those weeks. Enjoy every minute, every second of it. Congratulations.

Emma from Cardiff
Rachel was a big fish in a small pond in Wales, she was very forthcoming with her opinions, never in a harsh way though. In BB she was faced with some bitchy and confrontational people, it was as if she became a small fish in a big pond and like her fellow housemates said 'sat on the fence'. She survived it though which is a huge strength in her character and fantastic both for her and Wales. She has set a good example to the younger generation - target audience, unlike Bex, Luke, Rex, Nicole, Alex and Sylvia! I am pleased that the bullies didn't triumph and wish Rachel all the best!

Carl Cox from Cwmbran.
Rachel will be minted now. She could maximise her earning potential by selling advertising space on her massive forehead. I bet someone would pay top dollar for her to be advertising beauty products on that huge space.

Christine Martin from Scotland
Well done Rachel, I knew you would win the first day you walked into the house. You have a strength that shines fom you. I wish you the very best and wish you a happy life.

Janette Barton, Austerfield, Doncaster
Congratulations Rachel, I have never been so overjoyed ever as when Rachel's name was announced as winner. On many occassions at the beginning of this BB series I have been tempted to switch off my set. I found the bullying and the dreadful language just too much, for me the bad language spoils Big Brother and I would be over the moon if one year penalties had to be paid for the use of the 'F' word. However my faith has been restored in mankind having had the pleasure of actually watching a contestant who conducted herself in a way which would inparticulary make any parent proud, and Rachel's parents have every right to be proud. She is an example to society, a tremendous role model for the youth of today and if the world was full of Rachels it would indeed be a beautiful world. She is a lovely genuine person, my heart has gone out to her so often as she has been treated pretty shamelessly in the house and rather bullied which makes me even more joyous to be able to say for once on Big Brother, a genuine, kind, considerate person of moral standing actually came through! As far as sitting on the fence is concerned, am I right in thinking that Rachel was the very first person to stick up to the awful girl that was removed from the house, perhaps her name was Alex? I don't recall any other person standing up for others against Alex. Well done Rachel, I am overwhelmed by the British public as this result shows that deep down we appreciate nice presentable moral human beings after all!

Emily, north Wales
Well done Rachel, very proud of you, voted for you loads of times and was very pleased you won. It's about time the nice people in this world get recognised, good luck for the future.

Patricia Kernaghan, Glasgow
I think she is a very nice girl - I have voted for her over 300 times. Hope she wins - she deserves it. She has climbed a mountain and got to the top of it. She is the only deserving winner and what a nice family she has. Wish there was more people like her.

Chris Ward, Cwmbran
I've always liked Rachel and her family and have worked with her for a while when I was a receptionist and she was a waitress in a local hotel. She is EXACTLY the same lady at home as she is on the TV. I am appalled that Rex got away with talking to Rachel the way he did and only got told off for the way he spoke to Sara. Good luck to her and I hope she wins BB9.

Jaycee from Cwmbran
I think that she's great. What a great role model she is for young and older people alike. It's about time that a kind and caring person won Big Brother.

Nigel from Doncaster
I was cynical. I've seen all nine Big Brothers, five celebrity versions, two series of Survivor and countless other reality shows. I empathise with other cynical people. I can also tell you that compassionate, industrious and genuinely altruistic people are not supposed to go on these shows! I don't know how, but Rachel somehow slipped through the net. She has taken a lot of unfair stick from the other housemates because she refuses to descend to their level, but she has been true to herself throughout. If I knew her, I would be standing, shouting, proclaiming it from the rooftops, because she is a credit to her family, friends and her community, a true gem of a human being. My cynism is now destroyed and I am left desperately needing a new fix of Have I Got News For You.

X
I love the comments referring to the "pointlessness of the programme" yet the irony is omnipresent in people such as yourself due to the fact that you're spending your time remarking on their actions; to be quite honest they are probably rather aware of the guinea pig status they're being placed in inside the house. Essentially, they have the chance to earn 3-4 times the average annual salary in a few months along with the fame which you are most likely to live in the shadows of, envying their fast track to an easy life and the empathic tone in you're. Ignorance is bliss, that's their problem not yours.

rob groves cwmbran
she's a grd looking lady ;)

Kirsty from Ebbw Vale
She used to be my English teacher, I love her to bits and I hope she wins, and if she does she deserves it because she is such a genuine person. Go Rachel!!!

Carol from Cwmbran
From what I have heard, you have to be brain-dead to watch the programme in the first place but to actually want to appear on a programme such as this, Rachel Rice must really be desperate. Apparently, there is a lot of "exposure" if you are on this TV programme. You may ask "What's a nice girl doing on a programme like this?" (Big Brother), she obviously has nothing better to do with her time - why not try spending some voluntary time at Velindre Hospital/Ty Hafan looking pretty and doing something useful -people need to wake up to the real world.

Steve Price, Llanedeyrn
She looks a nice girl - it's a pity she's wasting her time on a pointless, rubbish programme. It's sad really as people actually watch it - why, I dont know?

Selina Walsh
I think that Rachel Rice is a superstar. I like her - she is brilliant...

Jan from Cardiff
I hope Rachel goes a long way as she seems very sensible and level headed. Good luck to her. Lets's hope Alexandra does not bully her too much.

LLeisiau , Caerphilly
She has a website? Go do a proper job, try nursing, teaching or bin emptying, then we can see what she is made of. Exposing oneself, literally, on TV watched these days by a handful of insomniacs looking for something to ease the night hours hardly makes one worth our attention. Do these people not know they are being exploited by the programme's producers ?

Stan from Cwmbran
Cwmbran again. God ain't we popular mind :D
