Once Radio 1's youngest ever DJ at the age of 17, Huw is one of the station's champions of new, cutting edge music.
As a boy Huw used to tape himself presenting make-believe radio shows before having a crack at the real thing thanks to Rookwood Sound hospital radio in Cardiff.
He managed a friend's band called The Void and began writing for local music magazines and fanzines.
While doing a spot of work experience answering phones at BBC Radio Cymru he met fellow music fan and future Radio 1 co-host Bethan Elfyn.
They were in the right place at the right time when Radio 1 were looking for presenters with their fingers on the pulse of the Welsh music scene.
The big break came in autumn 1999 when Huw and Bethan landed the job of presenting the Session in Wales on Thursday nights to Radio 1 listeners in Wales.
Huw in particular impressed station bosses with his on-air skills and contacts with up-and-coming artists like Goldie Lookin Chain and Funeral For A Friend.
It wasn't long before he was heard on Radio 1 right across the UK filling in for DJs on holiday.
He's now got a regular slot on the station as one of its champions of new music, helping carry on the work of the late John Peel.
Outside of Radio 1 he remains steeped in music, presenting Welsh language programmes on BBC Radio Cymru and S4C.
Huw also writes about music for the Welsh press, and can be seen DJing at clubs, gigs and festivals across Wales and beyond.
