Dave Edmunds

Dave Edmunds Rock guitarist and record producer

Born:
15 APR 1944
Place of Birth:
Cardiff
Famous For:
Rock guitarist and record producer
Biography:
The chart-topping rock guitarist and producer who helped create the reputation of the legendary Rockfield Studios near Monmouth.

Rock'n'roll swept the nation in the 1950s when Edmunds was growing up in Cardiff, and stars like Chuck Berry and Eddie Cochrane inspired him to pick up a guitar.

While working as a garage mechanic by day, he played in a series of bands such as the 99ers and the Raiders, and often with his elder brother Geoff.

One band eventually became Love Sculpture, who shot to fame in 1968 with the Top 5 hit Sabre Dance.

Their version of the tune by classical composer Khachaturian featured a blistering guitar solo from Edmunds.

But the band broke up shortly afterwards, and Edmunds returned to Wales and the now-famous Rockfield recording studios near Monmouth.

Solo success soon followed as Edmunds scored the Christmas Number One in 1970 - his cover version of the Smiley Lewis track I Hear You Knocking topped the UK charts for six weeks.

Edmunds followed this with an album of rock'n'roll classics called Rockpile, which also became the name of his band.

A fruitful working relationship with Nick Lowe resulted in more solo success in the late 1970s with hits including I Knew The Bride and the Elvis Costello number Girls Talk.

Edmunds' solo recording career has been relatively sporadic, but he remains a popular live performer.

He's also won wide acclaim for his production work with artists ranging from Shakin' Stevens, the Flamin' Groovies and Brinsley Schwarz to the Everly Brothers and kd lang.

Dave's brother Geoff Edmunds writes from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada:

"My, what tributes to Dave! And rightly so. He is, unquestionably, the best rocker of all time (yes, I know, I'm his brother, but it's true!).

"Dave and I started out togther when we were kids, playing boogie woogie piano duets togther - he was about ten and I was 14. My how we rocked! I only wish we could have recorded these piano duets togther...

"I fronted the Heartbeats and Dave had the Raiders after leaving the Heartbeats. We played loads of gigs togther around Cardiff and the Valleys, but I knew then that he was headed for greatness.

"The Raiders was the first band ever to feature just bass guitar and drums - long before Clapton and Cream. That put a heavy strain on Dave to perform and fill in, but not only did he do that well, but broke amazing ground with features like the classical Sabre dance.

"A few years back, I went down to L.A. and stayed with him for a few days. We laughed, drank and remembered old times and then we went into his studio and for fun recorded an Everly Bros-type version of 'Keep-a-knockin'.

"We multi-tracked the whole thing with Dave on bass, guitar and vocals and me on piano, organ and vocals. It was a hoot. I have the tape and play it every now and then to remind me of how good it would have been to have recorded a brothers album..ah, well...

"In 1996, I arranged a concert in Victoria, with Microsoft and my tech company, who had become partners. I called Dave and asked if he would come up and play, with all proceeds going to homeless kids.

"He agreed, so I called Ainsley Dunbar (British drummer from Journey and John Mayall Bluesbreakers, to name a few) my cousin, Paul Chapman from Florida (formerly from UFO - used to live on Whitchurch Road), Cardiff bass player Geoff McCarthy flew over and I was on piano and B3 Hammond.

"It was the dream gig for me after all these years. The concert was a sell out in one day and we blew the doors off ... pure old Cardiff rock.

"We filmed it and recorded on 32 track ... it was an astounding evening and the guitar duels between cousin Paul (no slouch on guitar!) and Dave was something to behold. I have the videos and will some day put it all together in a documentary film of some kind...then again, maybe not.

"Anyway, I just wanted to add a few words to the accolades and agree that my bro is pure musical genius. My best wishes to all in Cardiff and S. Wales."

Moment of Glory:
Six weeks at Number One with I Hear You Knocking in 1970.

Mike, Swansea
He has to be the best Welsh musician ever - a true rocker!

Trish Evered in Gold Coast, Australia
His music is legendary. I used to baby sit his kids when I lived in the UK and he is the nicest bloke ever.

Paul Hook, Monmouth, now Virginia, USA
Dave was a regular around Monmouth when I was a kid. He used to show up at the Nags for a pint everynow and then - a real gent. The last time I saw him he was playing at the Rockfield christmas bash at The Paddocks - Mickey G, Dave Charles, and the lads, "rockin" old school. Hi to everyone in Monmouth, I miss you all!!

Keith Lodwick, Mandurah, Western Australia
Remember Dave from too many years back at the Kennards and his brother Geoff in the Heartbeats - was Geoff Denny Driscoll? Then there was the fantastic nights at the then notorious Moon Club on the Hayes with Mickey Gee (sadly taken from us). I remember the time back in the sevevties when I was a delivery driver for a builders merchants and was trying to make up time on the back road between Chepstow & Monmouth when around the bend came this black BMW 7 and we ended up nose to nose but laughed it off. If your ever in Oz Dave let me know on Facebook and we`ll sort some! thing out!!!

Wynne Jones from Carmarthen
Dave was married to my best friend's sister and what a nice guy he is, down to earth and a very proud Welshman. I first saw Dave as a guest with Andy Fairweather Low's band Fairweather on stage in Llanelli's Glen ballroom. I have seen him several times since, including the acclaimed live TV concert with Dion at London's Town and Country Club and with Joe Brown at Swansea's Grand Theatre. He is a legend that the UK should be proud of and has done himself justice with the best artistes on the planet. All the big boys fully respect Dave's super talent as a guitarist and producer/engineer. Keep on rockin'

Ed from Philadelphia
Saw Dave every year from '82 on... Got to meet him a few times - a real gentleman - never too busy to answer a question or two. His 1990 Rock & Roll Revue with Dion, Graham Parker, Kim Wilson and The Stax horns NEEDS to be released in some form. Dave has a great following! How about a tour?

Ricky, Cardiff
Mickey Gee made Dave. Who played the first bend in I Hear You Knocking? It wasn't Dave was it? Mickey RakaRaka Gee.

Barrie Evans from Barry
I have had the pleasure of meeting Dave at a number of venues over the years and to say he is down to earth is an understatement. He is best mates with two of my cousins from the sixties band Amen Corner. For me Sabre Dance is like a tonic but if you try playing it on the best guitar in the world it is nigh on impossible that shows how talented Dave really is. Keep on rocking, Dave.

Claire, Bristol
At the time of writing (Jan 09), Dave will be touring with Jools Holland April/May 2009.

Jamie from Toronto, Canada
I am a huge Dave Edmunds fan especially when he's rocking. Saw Rockpile and Information tour shows. Just awesome, go see him if you ever get the chance.

Rosemary Davies
Dave is one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met, a regular customer at a store in Cardiff, he was a pleasure to assist. Not just a fine musician, but an all round nice guy. So different from the usual boorish slobs in the city around his age. The bloke's a gem.

Kirsty from Caerphilly
I grew up listening to Dave Edmunds as my father is a mega fan. He used to tell my sister & I all sorts of stories as he used to go to the same school and used to jam with Dave and a few others in their youth.

Andy Tuppen-Morocco, Withernsea
Been listening to Dave since 1970, never seen him live but would love to. Greatest guitarist around and love his musical style. Any idea when he's playing the UK again anyone?

Jesper Madsen in Karise, Denmark
The first time I listened to Dave, was when I was just a boy, tuning mopeds in the garage with my friend, we borrowed his older brother's records and cassettes and rocked down the house. That was in the late 80's and the music has followed me ever since - rock'n'roll the way it should be played. I hope you play a Danish gig in the future to come, and I'll be there.

Ray Mayhew, London
And don't forget that Dave produced the first Motorhead album - On Parole.

Robin Scott
I first saw Dave Edmunds live with Carl Perkins at the Nashville Rooms in Kensington, London in 1977!! I have loved his work ever since!! I could have got into punk, metal or soul ... but thankfully I was into Rockabilly. Keep it going Dave!

Judy Taylor from Honolulu, Hawaii
Aloha, and I of course, I think Dave is an outstanding musician. In fact, I am trying to find a copy or CD of an LP he made or played on, just before Zeppelin came out with their first LP. It was a killer blues album, and I think the name of it or the band was the Blues ?? something or other, I can't remember! (Those were the days!) Am I correct in thinking this is so? I've wracked my brains but can't recall. Thanks for your help.

Barrie (Butch) Matthews, Barry
My mates and I used to watch the Raiders every Monday at Barry Memo Hall in 1962. He was brill then. During the evening they had a talent spot - three singers could sing a number with the Raiders. Being a budding vocalist I often did a number. I am indeed honoured.

Mark Weisman, USA
Dave is quite simply the greatest rocker of all time, bar none. I believe he is the Segovia of Rock. I have loved his music and all his Rockpile cohorts for many years. I had the honor of recording with Billy Bremner in the late '80's and of course, Billy is a master all of his own. God Bless Rockpile, Dave, and may they all rock on for many years.

Graham Tait
Despite being a self taught guitarist and being familiar with much of Dave's work, he is the ONLY player who I am unable to even start to learn, sound like, figure out etc etc. Brilliant guitarist!

Richard Pearson
When I was working at Radio 1 in 1978, Dave and Nick Lowe, both of whom i knew vaguely, stopped for a chat as i carried a case of hospitality wine from broadcasting house to the Langham, where I was doing a recording. All of a sudden the case was wrenched out of my arms and the last I saw of it was disappearing down Regent Street, accompanied by messrs lowe and edmunds.knowing mny reputation as an entrepeneur, my boss was convinced (and probably still is!) that I'd flogged the wine.seeing Dave at cropredy festival this year, so hopefully I will claim a degree of payback!!!!!

Sherell from Lincolnshire
I loved him & his music in the 70's, & still do!! Listen to his music almost every day, he's fab ... good looking as well. xxxxxx

Graham Stevens from East Grinstead
Bruce Springsteen opened his Cardiff concert 2008 with From Small Things ... to hear the Boss rip through the track he "leant" to Dave Edmunds in his home town is fitting tribute and a great Rock and Roll moment to the handful in the crowd (big handful) who sang along - the rest of you picked up the chorus pretty quick! Dave, I hope you were in the crowd, or at least the news got back to you. Thanks for the soundtrack to my misspent youf and all those hours of pleasure!

Phil Latham, Cardiff
Was lucky enough to live in the same city as Dave in the 60's/70's - went to one of his gigs in 66, been addicted ever since. His voice, sound, guiter playing (feel and energy) were like nothing elso I can compare him to, and I've seen many of the greats. He used to play a gig at the Top Rank, Cardiff, where the stage used to turn around, and you knew you were in for a amazing set. Have not experienced any better gig. At one time he used to do a version of Walk On By which used to go right through you, almost in a spiritual way (sounds naff but it really got to you, yet he dropped it and never ever recorded it). Went to see him 17 times, in 6 months, and almost got expelled. Still the best, and he is a Cardiff, Welsh boy, great!!

David from Wilmington, Delaware, USA
Dave, come back to the US. Your acoustic show at the Main Point in Pennsylvania a few years ago was a real treat. How about one more go?

Lorraine Johnson
Dave Edmunds and The Raiders were a cracking group back in the '60s playing venues like the Kennard, Roath Church House and The Victoria, Canton along with other groups one of which was called The Denvers.

Carol Liptrot, Wigan
Have been a huge fan of Daves for nearly thirty years. Oh that makes me feel old!! Saw him at Llandudno in November last year, last saw him in late 70s at a uni gig and had to wait nearly 30 years, boy was it worth it!!!

Sara Bishop, South Dakota, USA
I've been a huge fan of Dave's since 'I Hear You Knocking" when I used to live in Hemel Hempstead, Herts. Glad to hear he's touring again, but when is he coming over to the States? If he ever does, please don't forget us in the Black Hills.

Max Brand from Toronto, Canada
I had heard lot of great things about Dave Edmunds through the years and in the 1970's David made some good albums which during that time there was a bit of a rockabilly revival happening around that time with the likes Of Robert Gordon, Shakin Stevens, & James Intveld. I'm about to make my first LP and as soon as it gets completed I would love to open up for Dave Edmunds whenever he does a show in Toronto. If you need an opening act, I'm your man.

Chris from Agate, Colorado, USA
Dave first came to my attention with the song, I Got my Home in my Hand. Run, Run, Rudolph on YouTube is a joy also. Whether it be Chuck Berry, Keith Richards, or any other guitar player, I have not heard anyone play better rock and roll than Dave. I have played guitar for 48 of my 55 years, and trying to emulate Dave is the way I get into the Rock flow. What a genius! It would sure be great to see his ES-335 collection and have an anthology of his best. I doubt I will ever get to see him, but my family is Welsh, so if I ever come across the Pond maybe I can catch a show from the True King of Rock and Roll !! Thanks for the Magic, Squire Dave Edmunds ...

Randy from London, Ontario, Canada
Been a Dave fan since the mid 70's. A dream come true when I saw him in T.O. with Dion and Graham Parker in 1990. He was actually promoted to play in London Ontario a few years back, bought tickets for all my friends, but sadly it was cancelled. When are you coming back to Canada, Dave?

Sue Barnard, Hertfordshire
I was so impressed, when I saw Dave for the first time at Southwark Park, in July 2007, that I went to see him 8 times on his 2007 UK tour with Joe Brown. He really lights up the stage, when he plays his guitar. I got to meet him at London Palladium and he has a nice, quiet personality. Its a shame he hasn't brought out a DVD and a Autobiography would be nice too.

David Moore from Michigan, USA
To answer Paul from Blackburn, Lancs'question about the Dave Edmunds Alive & Pickin' CD, it's on a website called www.itsaboutmusic.com . I doubt that you'll be able to get it for your Dad in time for Christmas, but you can stach it away for his next birthday. Good luck. David

Dave Brittan from Burnham on Sea
Saw Dave and his guitar in St Davids Hall Cardiff with Joe Brown Oct 11th 2007. He is a fantastic picker - I was so impressed that I booked again at another venue at Salisbury. Cannot wait for his next outing - God, I need to practice more with my trusty Strat...

Paul from Blackburn, Lancs
My Dad is a massive fan of Mr Edmunds & is having problems getting hold of a CD by him titled Alive and Picking. I would like to buy him this for Xmas, does anyone have any information on where I can purchase this CD? I would be very grateful.

Maui Guy from Maui
Dave Edmunds is really Johnny Burnette, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, early Elvis, Carl Perkins and half a dozen other guys wrapped into one body. He and the Stray Cats and a couple of other guys have kept the great art of 50's rockabilly, an awesome art form, alive for new generations of younger fans. Plus, his work with Nick Lowe which is just about perfect pop. The guy's a genius; thanks Dave. I'm your age and love your work, and your sense of what was great in the past, and shouldn't be forgotten.

Simon German. Upholland. Lancs.
Saw Dave for the very first time at Preston Guildhall. Joe Brown +co were good, but Dave Edmunds was truly awesome. Been waiting to see him since my mid teens. A fantastic 49th birthday present. Thanks to Annette for the surprise tickets. Can't wait for his next tour.

Jez Ward from Derbyshire
Just got back from the Joe Brown gig at Nottingham with Dave Edmunds as guest star.Dave is one of my guitar heros, but this is the first time that I have been fortunate enough to see him play live. He played an amazing set, and his guitar playing was second to none. Please get a band together Dave and do a solo UK tour.

Arthur Carrington from Chapel-en-le-Frith
I had the privilege to see Dave recently in Buxton appearing with Joe Brown. In my 61st year I can honestly say I have never seen a better guitarist in my life. Thanks Dave for a show I and many others will never forget! You completely blew us away.

Brian (ROCKHOUSE) Davies, Penarth
I was the bass player with Dave in the early 60's in the raiders even then I knew he was something special. In those days we used to support Joe Brown and the Bruvversevery time they came to Cardiff, even in the early sixties we were playing sabre dance which went down a storm. In those days we used to play London gigs at one gig Pete Chester a promoter asked us to sign with him and play the Star Club, Hamburg which we were eager to do, but the drummer (Ken Collier) was still an apprentice and we could not go, it meant splitting the band up, sadly I left the raiders in the mid sixties to join London band the Riot Squad. I still keep in touch with Dave, speak a couple of times a year(he's still rocking like me)I still think Dave is the best rock @ roll guitar playerEngland has produced, keep on rock-in Dave.

Arthur Carrington
I saw Dave last week in Joe Browns show at Buxton Derbyshire. He is without doubt the best guitarist I have ever seen! What a star.Come back soon Dave, you completely blew us away. The only downside was I suspect many in the audience went home and wrapped their guitars round the nearest lamp post!No-one could follow that.Respect.

Carol from Darlington
We saw Joe Brown & The Bruvvers, with Dave Edmunds this week at The Sage in Newcastle, a fantastic show from them all! Dave was really brilliant, what a fantastic guitarist, and he has lost none of his magic. Thanks for a wonderful evening, we would certainly go to see him again!! Please don't stay away too long!!

Gemma, Malvern, Worcestershire
I just wanted to say I thought the Dave Edmunds and Joe Brown Concert in Cheltenham in October 2007 was fantastic! Dave Edmunds rocks live! He also played the brilliant Girl's Talk, Queen of Hearts and I Hear You Knockin' which my favourite songs of his! If you get the chance go and see him, he's touring with Joe Brown and it's a great night out!

Dave & Peggy Brodie, Reading
Joe Brown and Dave Edmunds together last Saturday at The Anvil Basingstoke - we go to all Joe's gigs and what a bonus with the amazing musician Dave Edmunds. His guitar playing was/is phenomenal. We will hopefully see him rise to the stardom he deserves.

Mike Crocker - Bristol
Saw Dave with Joe Brown at Bristol Hippodrome on 23 Sept 2007. His playing - particularly the instrumentals - was awesome and the hits sounded as fresh as ever. Joe Brown was headlining and was his usual talented self but Dave Edmunds stole the show.

Lainey from Reading
I went along to keep a friend company to see Joe Brown. Dave Edmunds was also playing and what a treat. He was FANTASTIC. Would go see him again without a doubt.

Jeff Golightly, Memphis, Tennessee, USA
I got to hang out with Dave at the Class of 55 sessions at American Studios and I'll never forget it. Dave is a class act and we enjoyed having him endorse our guitars. I've bought everything Dave related and am never let down. As someone said before me "Dave gets it". Come back to Memphis mate ... I know where they keep the beers.

Joe Sinopoli
Who is a better guitar player than Dave Edmunds? A fan since the 70's, I saw Dave at the Park West in 1985 or was it 86? Now, I have seen everyone from the Beatles to the Stones, the Dead to Rod. But I have never seen a higher-energy show like Dave's. His guitar work is mesmerizing, and what a voice. I was unaware of his health problems and semi-retirement. But I would crawl closer to the flame than anyone to see him again. Hey Dave, come play with us, The Holy Goats, when you're in Chicago.

Harry YaSeen
Never could get enough of Rockpile or anything that Dave did. One of the truly great rockabilly, rocknrolling guitarists - not to mention the ballads that really knocked me out. Saw him many times, last at a solo show in Chicago at the Abbey Pub - a thrill for me, as I had the opportunity to actually meet Dave and tell him just how much his music had meant to me. I wish him good health - for with this, we have everything - and if possible, a Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe renunion tour. Man, can you even concieve of the response to this?

Susan from Los Angeles, California, USA
I LOVE Dave Edmunds. I have since I first heard Rockpile oh so many years ago. My friends and I would give anything to get to see him play.

Lank Daley from Oshkosh, WI, USA
Dave's music never gets old for me. It's no coincidence that he's played with the surviving Beatles. He's the ultimate rocker. He gets it.

Sue Barnard Herts
I first noticed Dave when 'I hear you knocking' came out in 1970. Since then 37 years have passed and I still havn't heard anyone else who sounds as good as he does. My favouite album is 'Information'. 'Baby I Love You' and 'Born to be with You' are the best slow songs. 'Stardust' is my favourite film, for obvious reasons and I have probably watched it a million times. One of my dreams came true recently, when I got to see Dave for the first time at Southwark Park. I can't wait until September, when he starts his UK tour with Joe Brown. I hear that Joe Brown does 100 tour dates a year. Wish Dave would do the same.

Scotty, Blue Blisters, S Wales
Hey Dave - if you are ever near Abergavenny on Sunday afternoons (it's really not far from Monmouth), bring your guitar and join us at the weekly Jam Sessions at the Market Tafarn in Lion Street - we'll provide you with a backline & PA (you could even use my 335 if it's easier). We promise you would get a rapturous welcome, and at least one pint from me! Cheers mate, Scotty

Di Bunn in Lincolnshire
I see Dave Edmunds will be touring in GB with Joe Brown in 2007. I reckon he's Britain's answer to the Wall of Sound! Rock on Dave and keep well.

(Editor's Note: See www.joebrown.co.uk for tour dates - including Bristol Hippodrome September 23, Cardiff St David's Hall October 11 and Swansea Grand Theatre November 26)

Russell Edmunds from Perth, Australia
Loved Dave Edmunds and Rockpile. Wonder if he is a distant relative since I am from Cardiff and the valleys and emigrated to Australia in 1966.

Jim Kinney, Rochester, New York, USA
We'd just got in line for the second show downtown with Krenshaw and amid rousing applause, who comes stealing beside us, sipping on a pint with that mad twinkle of glee in his eye, just taking a break from the stage where he presumably had *crushed* the first show? Starstruck, per usual, I was suprised I even bothered remarinking, "Hi, Dave" at him as he passed. He didn't pay me no mind though, just as swept up as everyone else was, at the time, in the true magic of the moment. (sighs). Thanks for making life more endurable, Mr Edmunds, and also for professionally doing right by brother George Harrison, covering Here Comes The Sun so tenderly. Ahhh, and please don't stay away so long til the next time, eh?

Gary Butcher, Bedford
Thanks for all the trouble you've got me into, Dave! Been a fan since I heard Queen of Hearts when I was 11 years old. I had to beg, grovel, threaten and throw the worlds bigest tantrum to get mum to let me stay up late to watch you on the Whistle Test! Well, I found out who that bald guy was (Mickey Gee) and what that guitar was (a Fender Telecaster). I got my first one when I was 13, so all the detention, canings I got in school for sciving off and bunking lessons to play the thing and later all the jobs I lost because nothing was more important than playing guitar! You sowed the seed in me Dave, and I'm grateful. Thanx!

Alan Blyton in Westcliff
As a teenager, which I guess are probably your most important musical years, Dave Edmunds meant everything to me.He inspired me to pick up the guitar, and it was because of him that I spent hours searching through rack and racks of un-alphabetized old singles and LPs in little independent record shops (This is LONG before eBay.)I just wish that Dave could have acheived the massive, mainstream success that his flair and talent so richly deserved. He was most certainly A-1 on the jukebox. God bless you Dave.

Mike from Colorado Springs, USA
Been a fan since 1970. Loved Carl Perkins and Friends. Great job! Happiness and health to you. Thank you!

Jeff Williams from Talbot Green
I first became a fan of Dave and was lucky enough to meet him in his early Love Sculpture days at the Ritz in Skewen, which at the time was a major venue for bands playing in Wales. My friends and I used to stand in awe struck admiration at his guitar skills. I still laugh at the memory of music critics at the time claiming that he had double tracked Sabre Dance as in their words "Nobody could play that fast". Dave invited them to the recording for the album "Forms And Feelings" where he promised to play it even faster - he didn't disappoint. To me will always be the greatest guitarist ever.

Vanessa Hughes, Birmingham
I've loved Dave and Nick since hearing I Knew The Bride and Girls Talk. I would love to see them again live as I enjoyed a few concerts in eighties. How can I get info on live gigs?

Arch Stanton, Crawley
I've been listening to Get It and Trax on Wax in the lorry all week and they sound as great if not greater than they ever did. The great british rocker is Dave Edmunds - why haven't Mojo mag done a proper in-depth feature on this man's contribution to rock n roll?

Gerry Vitiello, New Jersey, USA
Haven't missed a Dave Edmunds tour since Rockpile played the Ritz NYC in 1978 Thanksgiving. One of the best guitarists out there, especially complementing his band, Mickey Gee, Geraint Watkins, one of the best thumb pickers out there! God bless ya Dave, keep on rockin!

Derec Jones
Saw Dave last in Cardiff April 2003. Need to see him again if he is still doing the odd gig! Could someone please inform/contact me when there is a Dave Edmunds gig -Wales/North East/Midlands. Please!!

Leo Wubbolt from Losdorp, The Netherlands
It was a radio show from Dutch VPRO that got me into Dave. He played a concert together with Nick Lowe in a hotel (was it Krasnapolsky?) in Amsterdam. It was broadcast, I recorded it and then it all started, collecting almost every record there was to collect from his first Regal Zonophone album back in 1970 until now. Saw him once live, skipped a Rockpile concert due to bad weather. His oldest records are my favourites. Keep it up Dave!

Angel Luis from Madrid, Spain
A friend of mine, 20 years ago, told me about a fantastic pop-rock'n'roll singer. I went to his house and i saw a record called Rockpile - he told me that on this record he played with another genius called Nick Lowe. Well, from that day my musical taste changed completely. Dave opened my mind for another type of fantastic music. Thanks Dave, and Nick as well. I hope see you soon in Spain again.

Jeff Bucholz
I first heard Dave when I moved to California 26 years ago. A friend of mine out there exposed him to me. He was a major Dave Edmunds fan and had no trouble whatsoever converting me. Being a guitar player/songwriter myself he changed the way I approached playing and writing music. I really wish I would have had an opportunity to see him play live. One of the things I love about his guitar playing is that he knows how to crack you up with the licks he's playing! It's rare to hear a guitar player infuse humor in their playing. Ya gotta love it! Love your music Dave!

Jorge Ramirez Camarena from Morelia, Mexico
I knew Dave Edmunds' music when I was young. Dave Edmunds was known in Mexico too. I think Dave is one of the best guitarists. Thanks for your music - I remember Morning Dew, one of the best songs I heard.

Jacqui Wood, Brisbane
My 6 your son would be Dave's biggest little fan. I have always liked Dave Edmunds, but my son can listen to it over and over. His favourite is Crawling From the Wreckage (because it also has fast cars in it). My husband is blown away because our son knows the songs better than we do. He plays his guitar along to the songs (not really but looks good .. still learning).

Harry Yaseen
First heard Dave at Park West in Chicago in about 1983 - was so thrilled to see him in Chicago in 2004, playing solo at the Abbey Pub. Found my way into the basement, where he was so kind as to autograph my CD version of Rockpile and give me a copy of his solo work at the time. As a musician, he has always been a hero of mine - I recall listening to Love Sculpture when I was all of fifteen years of age or so. I truly wish him the best of everything, for his music has meant all to me, even now as I sit here late on this Thanksgiving eve. I am so thankful for Dave, and finally meeting him - such a thrill for a rocker like myself. My only wish is for Dave to tour just one more time, for I'd surely quit my job just to be at every venue to hear him play the way he still can. If only he knew how much he means to all of us.

Ian Pearce, St Helens, England
Quite simply the most underrated, under appreciated genius in rock'n'roll. Been a fan since 1970. Met Dave after his solo gig in Chester in 1996 with a pounding heart & a lump in my throat. He was a very nice, quiet, almost shy man yet I knew I was in the prescence of greatness. My photo of me with him taken then is my most treasured possession. Dave, please never stop rockin' & what about a new album? Some people write rock'n'roll, some people play rock'n'roll - Dave Edmunds is rock'n'roll.

Diane Thorne, Swindon
Well Dave is a legend on the UK "Life Begins at 40" message board on AOL. Some love him, some tolerate him and some cringe at the mention of his name, but he always gets a reaction!

Eddie from California, USA
The best concert I ever saw was Rockpile in San Francisco at The Waldolph.

Allison, Cardiff
My brother had the pleasure of meeting Dave and he showed me where he lived in Orbit Street. Dave is one awsome guitar player and his music is brilliant. Such a talented man and better singer than Bruce Springsteen!

Gavin Davies, Bristol
Many years ago, I used to go to the same youth club as Dave in Cardiff - Star Street Congregational Church, which was opposite my house in Copper Street. I'm now 60 but still love his music.

Paul Hardy, Darlington
I first heard 'Girls Talk' as a schoolboy - the song really meant something to me straight away. I bought Repeat When Necessary & suddenly realised that most of the pop stuff in the charts was just vacuous fluff because I had found the real deal. I then bought everything I could that featured Dave, which is why I have a really eclectic taste to this day, because Dave Edmunds collaborated with such diverse artists from the prog rockers Man,to Rockabilly maniacs King Kurt, and so many artists of different styles in between. I'd just like to concur with so many on here, that Dave Edmunds is heavily underrated and should be in so many more of these Top 100 charts that music mags like to do these days.

Mark Fahey, Skelmanthorpe, West Yorkshire
Being a young 'un of only 46, The first record I ever bought as a ten year old was I hear you knocking, I still love that song to this day. My big regret is that I have never seen Dave play live, even though for a time in my late teens for a very short time I lived near Rockfield. Dave is a true master of his style, playing that gorgeous blonde 335 and of late a Telecaster. In fact it was Dave's playing of his blonde 335 that has always made me want one myself. I think Dave has never really received the accolades he deserves because he has stayed true to his style but anyone who has an ounce of knowledge about who are the best players around can only put Dave up there with the best of them. Even now, as I am forming a new band the first numbers we came up with as musts were I Knew The Bride, Girls Talk, I Hear You Knocking and other numbers Dave has covered which have influenced us.

Lorna from Kent
First heard him in late 70s. Played Repeat When Necessary to death and still love it. When is he next in this country?

Maggie Green, West Yorkshire
We love his music and we are out rockin' to his stuff every weekend. Real Gone Rock On.

Keith from Londonderry, Northern Ireland
I've always loved Dave's music. I've seen him twice. First time was about 23 years ago in the Whitla Hall in Belfast. I went back stage with them and had a beer, as far as I remember the pianist was from the Sunsets? A night to remember. Second time was at Portrush open air gig. The Sweet were there, Lotus Eaters, Glitter, lots of other bands. But I only went to see Dave really. I remember talking to Paul Jones after a Blues Band gig - he asked me "how did you get into the Blues Band?" My reply was "Take me home was very Dave Edmunds influnced" - Paul agreed with me.

Big Rod from Bournemouth
Just want to thank Dave for the wonderful pleasure I get now rockin and rolling still at 66. I started very late in life, I missed so much ... but better late than never at all. Rock on.

Con Conroy
I saw Dave at a small club in Chicago a few years ago and he was fantastic. It was just him and his acoustic - electric on stage. Never heard so much music come out of one guitar! Definitely would recommend him to anyone who likes Dave's style of rock n' roll.

Simon Jones, Auckland, New Zealand via Cardiff
I first heard Dave Edmunds when on holiday in Cornwall as a teenager. Girls Talk was on the jukebox at the caravan site - I went back to the caravan and saw him perform it on Top Of The Pops. I have never seen him live but bought his greatest hits in the 90's and have never been able to get the CD off my wife. A great ambassador of South Wales - keep rocking Dave.

Alan from Phoenix, USA
I had the pleasure of interviewing Dave many years ago when he had released his "Get It" solo release. He was touring with Bad Company then. He was extremely witty and kind, and I looked forward to hearing him play live. Unfortunately I never got that chance, as we had a bad rainstorm and I never made the gig. I would love to hear Dave again - especially if he could bring the marvellous John David in with him on backing vocals. John has written and sung some wonderful Rockabilly and Country tunes in his own right, as well as some recent chart successes for Status Quo including the wonderful "The Party Ain't Over Yet". Hope you are well Dave, and please consider coming back to playing - especially with John David on the west coast!

Chris Evans, Woodbine, Maryland, USA
I traveled almost 4000 miles to see Dave in Chepstow on August 26 2006. I've never been to the UK before. What a blast. The people of Chepstow were first class and Dave is still the greatest rock and roller of all time.

Peter Dean in Brussels
I have Dave Edmunds on the Pandora internet music service and every time they switch to a so-called similar artist, the difference is just painful. I wish I could hear him live. He is Happy Music.

Shirley and Paul, Cardiff
Still and always will be the best, most talent musician (and not forgetting that great voice) to ever come out of Wales. Just saw him on Saturday (26 Aug 2006) in Chepstow - nearest thing to heaven. Have been fans for 45 years.

Johan Ludin from Uster, Switzerland
Hi, I was at the Oldies Night in Zurich on 6th May 2006 - my first live concert of Dave - although he's for me the greatest since "Sabre Dance" (I'm born 1951) - thank for all the music !!!

Kevin from Philadelphia
Just listening to live version of "Go Johnny Go". One of my favs. I keep checking for any possible tour in the US of Dave or Nick or have even a Rockpile Reunion of sorts. Am I just dreaming?

Steve Powell, Newport
Seen Dave Edmunds at the Big Buzz recently in Swansea and never realised how much I would appreciate his music live. For me growing up his standout tracks where 'Girls Talk' and 'Queen of Hearts'.

Dave Swanson from Cleveland, Ohio, USA
Dave Edmunds is all aces in my book. One of the all time greatest rock and rollers and without a doubt one of the top guitarists ever! Not to mention all the great records he made! The world of rock and roll misses his presence. Seeing Dave with Rockpile 25+ years ago, still ranks as one of the best shows I have ever seen!! Rock on Mr. Edmunds!!! Rock on!!!!

Jean from Copper Street, Cardiff
Dave & Geoff were great, again Victoria Rooms the Kennard great times. I can remember the family in Orbit Street. Well done and keep going, excellent music.

Hans from Berlin, Germany
I'm 58 and a Dave Edmunds fan for most of my life. Unfortunately I saw him only one time live in 81 or 82 in Berlin. It was unforgettable! There is no day without listening his music. Would love to see him again live on stage....

Don Barton, Romford, Essex
Glad I found your website. I also saw Dave on the Carl Perkins show some years ago. I have now bought the DVD online. I am 65 yrs old, play guitar, and still love rock'n'roll and rockabilly. Good luck and good health.

Dave Lutz, West VA, USA
A friend years ago turned me on to Sabre Dance. When he got the solo Rockpile, I was hooked. Seeing the late 70s Rockpile a coupla times sealed the deal. Best rock band I ever saw, and I've seen them all! Go to YouTube.com. Someone there has loads of great DE and Rockpile stuff there for the viewing. Keep on rocking, Dave!!

Gene of Juneau, Alaska, USA
Went to Bumbershoot 02 just to see him, Shot a nice video. His version of Mozart Allegro was great. I have all his stuff including Anthology but do not have Allegro. (Help?) Started listening to him in 83 at a very young age. I recently replicated his MTV 87 New Year's Eve show covering Paralysed, Run Run, and Wanderer fronting my band this past New Year's Eve. I was him for those moments. Major influence on guitar and tunes. I read Fastball was influenced by him too. You can imagine hearing Dave sing the Way. My mom lives in Friday harbour, would like to meet brother in Victoria someday because I did not get to have him sign CD at Bumbershoot. Went to ACL in 04 to see Nick Lowe! We chatted - how cool.

David Duran from Dallas, Texas
Dave Edmunds is an amazing guitarist and vocalist. Dave embraces his muscial roots and plays what he chooses. Here in Texas, we have a special love for the style of rockabilly and country-tinged rock that Dave has been playing for so many years. Here in Dallas, we long for his return to the stage.

Vicky Cleaver from Craven Arms
Hi my Dad really loves Dave Edmunds and had recorded off the TV a live at somewhere or another gig and someone has deleted it!!!!! Does anybody out there know if he has a video/dvd at all. Also is there an official fan club website too? Thanks to anyone who can help.

J Smith, Riverside, California
Would appreciate any info about 2006 touring, and reviews of any 2006 shows. Thank you.

Arska Laakso from Finland
I saw Dave's gig in Finland, Lappeenranta 17.2.06. It was really powerful rock and roll. Dave with Billy Bremner showed to people that they can play rock and roll all night long. Very good show. I've been waiting for a new studio album... but maybe later, who knows. Dave is a great "Rock Guitar Man".

Phil Tandy in Cardiff
I saw Dave play Top Rank Cardiff with Micky Gee on guitar and Geraint on keyboards back in 1981 (I think). I have been to many, many gigs over the years, and that gig remains definitely in the top three for me, and on the same level qualitatively (as Ian says) as the Boss. Dave simply defines straightforward rock-and-roll guitar playing.

Gary Butcher, Bedford
I was first turned on by Dave as a kid in the 70s when I heard Queen of Hearts on my mum's radio. I loved it instantly! Well a few days later watching the telly, the Old Grey Whistle Test said that there was a performance by Dave that night at 11.30pm. Well, I begged my mum, threw a tantrum and she let me stay up to watch it even though I had school the next day! I couldn't concentrate on my lessons ever again because I wanted a guitar like Mickey Gee's. I later found out it was a Fender Telecaster which I eventually got, along with a twin reverb amp! I couldn't stick a "bloody" day job because all I wanted to do was play (and still do) - the neighbors hated it, my sister hated it, but so what! I'd like to thank you Dave and Mickey for great music and musicianship and all the inspiration, but most of all the TROUBLE you've got me in!

Jack Russell, Hampton UK
Been a fan since the Raiders. I turned pro in 64 with a superb guitar player from Pontypool called Pete Rowles, a left hander. We had a regular gig in the West End of London and when Pete wanted to quit I called Maurice Wight of the H&W Music shop in Newport who told me Dave was looking for a spot. I rang him and offered him the job but he declined saying, "I was professional for a bit last year and nearly starved to death so, no thanks". I wish I had persisted, Dave is one of the best rock guitarists in the universe.

Marty from Brum (via Abercynon)
One of the finest performances I've ever witnessed was at Barry Memorial Hall by Love Sculpture in the late 60's/early 70's with Mickey Gee and Terry Williams as part of a L.S. quartet. Of course a blistering, extended version of Sabre Dance brought the house down on a terrific night...

Chris Conrad, Milwaukee, Wisconson
When the Ringo Starr All-Starr Band played at Summerfest in 2001, Ringo referred to Dave Edmunds as "Mr. Rock and Roll". It may have been the first time I ever heard Ringo so completely understate anything. Not only did he nail the Clapton guitar solos behind Jack Bruce (and made 'em look easy!), his backing vocals behind Eric Carmen were spot on. Dave Edmunds does it all, yet he still makes it uniquely his own. That's what separates the greats from the wannabes.

Chris Irmiter Chicago
Saw Dave, in 2003 I believe, at the Abbey Pub in Chicago and he was incredible. Most of the crowd probably never even heard Sabre Dance and were there to see Marshall Crenshaw. Everyone I spoke with agreed that Dave wiped the floor with him. I've been a huge fan ever since the day I bought the Rockpile album but after that show, I immediatley went out and bought three used CD's of his and am yearning for a return date to Chicago. Come back Dave! We miss you. Chris

Kevin Kunreuther, Dallas TX
Great recollection Geoff, I'm a big fan of your bro from mid seventies - whatever happened to his fantastic website? Will it ever return?

CeTe Henning from Sweden
I´m i lucky guy i`m living i sweden. Dave and Geraint is touring several times here whit the swedish band "The Refreshments" I have been a big fan of Dave sice i first heard "Git it" in his version.

Gord Miller, Toronto, Canada
Dave Edmunds is surely the finest true rock and roll guitarist of our generation. From his early Love Sculpture efforts, through the 1970's mix of several styles, the Rockpile years of collaboration with Nick Lowe, the 80's experiments with Jeff Lynne, and his continuing great recordings since, his dedication to wonderful music has never wavered. Though his music goes in and out of generally accepted style, there is always a core of appreciative followers out there who wait for the next piece of music Dave offers. His love for straightforward rock and roll has been his most valuable asset in his production efforts - whether it be his great work with the Everly's, the Stray Cats, Nick Lowe, Dion, Brinsley Schwarz, or countless others - he is as much a fan of the music as he is a contributor. His respect throughout the music business is consistently appreciated. Dave - you are one of my true heroes. Thanks for the great music! Gord Miller gord@passportband.com

steve cook , south australia
I saw Dave Edmunds in a video "Giants of rock and roll" filmed in Rome in 1990. I enjoyed his singing and his guitar playing very much.

Chris from Cheshunt
I remember hearing I Hear You Knocking aged about 11 and it blew me away, love Daves music. He must be the most underrate musician ever! Are there any CD/DVDs available?

JULIAN
you are amazingly funny and i love you...........remember us getting a pint down the pub on tuesday?

JV LeBlanc from Moncton NB Canada
I own the Blues Helping album, Canadian Edition, on the Rare Earth label. It's a great album. My most treasured possession. Dave Edmunds, John Williams and Bob Congo Jones are just fantastic. I don't think I have ever heard something like Love Sculpture again. The album is still in great condition. I played it again today, what a sound.

frankie allan
truly great guitar player and authentic rocknroll vocalist a class act.

Steve Cook in Swindon
Seen him twice in Cardiff and Southampton - was a fan since the age of 15. Sabre Dance, Let It Rock and I Knew The Bride are truly amazing tracks. I wish the BBC would repeat the rockabilly sessions with Carl Perkins and friends as well as Still Rockin which was only aired in BBC Wales. Dave, keep rockin and best wishes.

raggyphil, Bristol
Been mad on Dave since hearing Sabre Dance as a kid and still remember reading about him as "a rocker with no grease or sideburns" in Disc and Music Echo, when "I hear you knockin'" got to number 1. Saw Dave several times in the 70s, notably with Rockpile. Gutted that I missed his set at Glastonbury this year, (got stuck at the main stage watching Brian Wilson). Hopefully will see the great man again. Have got my teenage kids and their mates into appreciating one of the true greats.

Val Guppy from Devon
my husband & i both love dave's music, but cannot get any dvd's of his music or live shows. if anyone knows where i can get hold of any, please let me know, valj303@aol.com

Dex Lloyd from Penarth
Used to watch Dave playing with the Heartbeats in the Marina on Penarth pier when he was about 15. I was a big fan of his brother Geof who was excellent. tracked the Raiders all over Cardiff Kennard Rooms, Victoria Park etc Dave really was the business. Great R&R band superb front man hope to see him again soon long live R&R

Mike from Reading, Pennsylvania, USA
It was fantastic seeing Dave again a few years ago on his accoustic tour across the US. He's my all time favorite Rock n Roller, there's nobody better!! I just wished he'd get back out on the road and tour again here.

Tony from Dublin
Dave once said that 'Rock n Roll is more than just words and music ... its a gut feeling', you either have it or you dont. Those who dont will never know what they're missing. Its great to hear him back gigging and recording again, ALIVE AND PICKING a legend indeed.

Les Cash from Richardson TX
When a friend sent me a tape with Goodbye Mr. Good Guy on it, I couldn't believe anyone was producing music like that. When I finally heard Repeat When Necessary what really floored me was Albert Lee on Sweet Little Lisa. Jaw dropping! My favorite Dave album is D E7, even though it has that one song on it that was written by B. S. I usually can't stand anything remotely connected with him. Sorry Warren.

Colm from Llantwit Major
Used to see Dave many years ago at places like the Kee Club in Bridgend as part of Love Sculpture. Have most of his music and had the great privelage of interviewing him after the Coal Exchange gig in Cardiff. My review was posted in the South Wales Echo. Most surprising thing about that night was that it was the first time that I know of when he didn't finish (or even play) the great Sabre Dance. He was very forthcoming in his interview and mentioned that one of his best moments in the music industry was being responsible for a guitar festival in Spain where all his own heroes agreed to appear on the bill. A great bloke and a credit to South Wales

Caity of Shirley
I love Dave Edmunds! He has a rock grit that reaches ones inner core. He can move you from your head to your toes! I saw him at the Ritz in New York and was so excited on the first note of 'Girls Talk' that I let out a little scream which made him stop and peer puzzledly at me! Love ya Dave! Great health to you.

Cindy, New York, USA
One of the best rockers of my time. I never missed a show in New York. I miss hearing his music live, PLEASE come and see us here in the States again!

Dave Daniels, York
I have followed Dave Edmunds from Sabre Dance onwards. There really is nothing he has done that I do not like. I feel he is very underated not just as a guitarist, but in a more general sense. His style of modernised rock and roll, in my oppinion, takes some beating.

Anthony, Sydney, Australia
Saw Edmunds with Rockpile at the State Theatre Sydney 1979. Not a great gig (apparently they all had the flu). Would have been better waiting as they played some smaller pub venues like the Bondi Lifesaver and Stagedoor Tavern. Cool to have seen them. Hope Rhino reissues "Get It" and the single "London's a Lonely Town".

Ted Mann, Tring, Herts
I have been a fan of Dave since the 70s. Hendrix and Clapton are guitar legends - however they do not have the diversity of Dave Edmunds, which is why I rate him the greatest guitarist of all time. He also posesses a great voice which can adapt to many styles. Lennon said he was the greatest rocker since the '50s. In my opinion he sounds greater than those back then. When Elvis checked out in 1977 he passed his crown to Dave. Dave Edmunds is the king of rock'n'roll! Get it - the greatest rock'n'roll album ever!

Alex from Maulden
I remember listening to 'Queen of Hearts' as a thirteen year old in 1979 on Capital Radio when I should have been asleep. A great contribution to my teens.

Mark Lodge from Bristol
Saw Dave play at Empire Shepherds Bush in 2004. Class act and gob smacking guitar work. To see him play Sabre Dance live was beyond belief. About time a new album was released and maybe a LIVE DVD of a concert perhaps?

Steve from Worthing
A true genius, caught live in London last year and with Rockpile in 1980! Listen to "Standing at the Crossroads" from the albums "Plugged In" and "A Pile of Rock, Live". Stunning work.

Don Ciccone, San Francisco, California
A tremendous guitarist indeed, but let's not forget what a great vocalist and what an incredible producer he is. My hope is that he records a new album at Rockfield!

Kevin (The Irish Folk) from Cardiff
Dave deserves his success. All the years I knew him he made music and playing his guitar the main focus of his life. And Rock & the Everleys too! I remember sitting in his room in Orbit Street listening to his I think disc jockey junior record player endlessly making music. When you are over, get in touch Dave , be nice to see you again. Regards - Kev.

Mami Koizumi from Tokyo Japan
I heared Dave experienced the job as the car engineer in his youth, I have some kind of sympathy toward him. Because my father was once the car engineer. When it comes to watching D.E. play with his good and old friends, I can't stop thinking how wonderful friendship is ! Please take good care of yourself, and I do hope reunion of THE ROCKPILE !!!!!

Jack Edmunds, Darwin Australia
Hi Cousin!! Great to see all the rave notices, You deserve them. I'm in contact with your bro Geoff in Canada. All the best for continuation of a fabulous career.

Annette - West Yorkshire
It is great to see that Dave has a page on the BBC Hall Of Fame. He well deserves it. I am going to see him again in March - I can hardly wait. He rocks.

Peter from Peterborough
Just finished watching the Story of Bohemian Rhapsody on BBC2. Wow - what a well kept secret - the guitar and drum tracks were recorded at Rockfield.! Well done to Dave. Can we expect to see Dave as a guest at Nick Lowe's concert in March at the Barbican?

Phil from Victoria, BC, Canada
My fondest memories of Dave are from the unmatched years with Rockpile - the finest traditional rock 'n roll band on the planet. The combination with Nick Lowe, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams was perfect - essential in the true sense of the word. Saw him live in Vancouver (Bryan Adams jumped on stage - yuck, but what can you do?). Closest I've been to meeting Dave was chatting to Terry Williams who was playing in cover bands around Cardiff in 92/93. Are all the Rockpile members still healthy? Be great to see a couple of knock-off gigs again. by the way, Dave's brother Geoff lives in Victoria and released an album back in the 80's.

Glyn Danter in Sydney Australia
I used to see Dave Edmunds and the Raiders playing the local dances in Cardiff. Some of the clubs were the Rock'n Twist Club in St Mary Street, the Kennard Ballroom in Roath, the Victoria Ballroom in Canton etc. He was a great guitarist even in those days and everyone used to watch him intently. It doesn't suprise me that he's such a world recognised great. I knew he'd make it 'big time'. I'd love to see him again but I doubt he'll come to Oz!!!

Paul Haynes, Cardiff
I first heard him live at Gelligaer Community Centre in December 1968. I agree with John Lennon - he is the greatest rock&roller since the Fifties. Rock on, Dave!

Frank Parks in Lafayette, Louisiana, USA
Dave plays tonight (11-20-04)in Skovde, Sweden. I have never seen him. It is 5000 miles from Louisiana to Sweden. To me it would be worth the trip.

Chris Evans, Woodbine, Maryland, USA
Dave is flat out one of the greatest rock'n'rollers of all time. Anyone who's ever attended one of his shows knows from the very first note you're in for a butt rocking good time. You can't stand still. Don't ever stop rocking Dave. You're in a league of your own. Now put down that acoustic, get the band together and get the show on the road. You're long overdue.

Kingsley Elliff
One of the people I've never seen live .... yet, I would like to know of any tour dates. Why don't you come to the Stables at Wavendon our local. Just persuaded my girlfriend to use Sabre Dance as an example in her music teaching.

Stephen Witton
Dave drinks in the Robin Hood in Monmouth.

Anne Green in Surrey
I can't believe I've stumbled across Dave Edmunds again - I was a 15 year old school girl in 1979 when I first heard 'girl talk' and saw him on top of the pops. I was hooked for years afterwards, saw him live loads of times and never stopped talking about him. Don't know how I drifted away but I'm going to dust off all his old albums and try and convert my children!!

Madge, Bristol, UK
I remember Dave Edmunds when he was in the Raiders in Cardiff. It was The Victoria Rooms in Canton, where I've spent many a night dancing away to their music and I'm not suprised he has made such a success of himself. WELL DONE DAVE!!

Rick Aylsworth in Cleveland, Ohio, USA
I've been playing guitar for almost 30 years now, and Dave is the reason. Great personality, great attitude, great guitarist. He deserves all the accolades.

John Gregg from London
Dave Edmunds has been my rock hero for 27 years since I first heard I Knew The Bride. I was 15 and maybe one of his younger fans! I quickly bought all his back catalogue and have collected everything he has recorded since. His guitar work (especially now he does the solo acoustic gigs) is truly wonderful and there is a real charm to his music. I've seen him live 6 times in the last couple of years. Just wish he would do a new solo studio album. Keep rockin Dave!

Andy from Bolton
I saw Dave when I was still living in London, more than 12 years ago. A great night, I just wish he toured more often. Perhaps the only musician in the UK who writes rock'n'roll that sounds authentically American.

Karen Moss from Oxford
Saw Dave at the Shepherds Bush Empire last night. Fab! Brought back many memories as my now husband and I went to see him at the Oxford Poly when we were newly going out! Great fun evening, would love to know if there is a fan club anywhere. Brought a few tears as he played Sabre Dance, my dad's one and only guitar attempt after hearing Dave play it. He is sadly no longer with us, but I was thinking of him last night! Keep going Dave!!

Marty from Vernon
I have always been a fan since I was a kid and heard 'I Hear You Knockin'. I have everything he has put out. I am anxious to know if he will ever put a new album out anytime soon. I hope so.

Mami Koizumi from Tokyo Japan
If I were Dave as a musician , I would live like him. Someday I would like to interview with Dave! Happy birthday of 60 from Japan.

Alexis, Canada.
I went to school with Dave. Even back then, he was great. For a pupil that teachers berated for his interest in his music, he seems to have followed his dream and won hard earned success.

Phil Matthews from Blaenrhondda
I remember seeing 'Love Sculpture' a long time ago and have been a fan ever since. I can't wait for tomorrow night at the Coal Exchange. Rock On Dave!

Stuart from Ipswich
Dave Edmunds - he can certainly pick and cover some great songs. 'Girls Talk' was my favourite, a Costello song sung by Dave with Nick Lowe on bass. A wondeful combination.

Mike Cadwell from Indiana, USA
I remember the first time I heard him. I was in my twenties riding in the bacs seat of a car wondering why I had smoked grass. His voice and his arrangement of some familiar song was like the sound of home or a friend. His music has taken its turn on my home turntable on a regular basis for 20 plus years now. He still plays and rocks like a bluejay on a spring morning.

Paul -from Toronto, Canada
The best! Amazing guitar player who possesses a beautiful voice. Wonderful producer and fantastic rock 'n roller. Need I say more?

Mick Merritt from Alresford Hampshire.
Seeing Dave Edmunds in Southampton last year was a fantastic experience - he was truly amazing. Playing on his own on an electic accoustic he did just about all of his hits and evey crowd pleasing guitar great you can think of, including Classical gas, Mozart 40 and some Chet Atkins numbers. He finished with Sabre Dance which was the only number that he used a backing track and solid guitar. Anyone who gets the chance should go and see him, particularly guitarists. He is THE master player.

Jan from Cardiff
If Dave Butler (Wolverhampton) is quick, he could get a ticket to see Dave Evans at Cardiff's Coal Exchange on 16 April.

Ian Pearce from Merseyside
Quite simply the most under-rated rocker in the business. If there was any justice in the music scene, Dave Edmunds would get the recognition so long denied him. If Bruce Springsteen is 'The Boss', then Dave Edmunds is the 'Managing Director'. Springsteen is a Dave Edmunds fan too!!

Adi from Pontypool
An icon of the rock'n'roll/blues genre. Responsible in part for the formation of the famous Rockfield Studios, and for a number of hit records both here and in the US. It is unfortunate that he is more appreciated in America than in his home land. A very talented and underrated artist from Wales, he deserves to be included in this list.

Dave Butler in Wolverhampton
When will Dave Edmunds tour again? If he wants a warm up gig he could play my pub - the Wanderer.

What do you think of Dave Edmunds?
