John Williams - soldier from Abergavenny
"He enlisted in the 24th Warwickshire Regiment of foot and was sent to South Africa. He took part in the defence of Rorke's Drift and along with 10 others was awarded the Victoria Cross. He eventually returned to Cwmbran where he worked in the Nut & Bolt factory. He was buried in St Michael and All Angels Church, Llantarnam."
