Cosmin, one of this year's youngest competitors, has the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of another Romanian tenor, Marius Brenciu, who won the Competition in 2001.
Cosmin was born in Arad and trained at the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy, Klausenburg. He won the Grand Prix at the Traian Grozvescu Tenor Competition in Lugoy, Romania, and is now based in Vienna where he is under contract to the Staatsoper.
In addition to his engagements in Vienna he has sung the role of Fenton Falstaff for Klausenburg Opera on tour in Holland.
His concert engagements include Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle and Orff's Carmina Burana which he will repeat this summer at the Dubrovnik Festival.
Cosmin is a keen table tennis player and is also interested in conducting.

When I heard Cosmin for the first time - three years ago as Normanno in Lucia di Lammermoor - I was already certain that he had the potential to become a terrific artist. He owns not only a great voice, but also a remarkable musicality and the ability to the most beautiful phrasing, even in such a small role. He since has made already great progress and impressed me a lot in many other roles, and at the age of 24 I'm sure he's still going to improve a lot, because I know he not only has a glorious voice and thrilling top c's and d's, but also the brains and the discipline to make it to the absolute top and to remain there.
