Dame Joan Sutherland, patron of BBC Singer of the World in Cardiff
Our quiz celebrating 20 years of the Competition has now closed and the winners have been notified.


The answers are given below - see how you got on.

1. Dame Joan Sutherland has served on the jury five times.

2. The number of competitors taking part in Cardiff settled down to the present number, 25 in 1991.

3. The two youngest competitors, Patricia Bardon and Alexandrina Pendachanska, were both aged 18 when they took part in 1983 and 1989.

4. The Audience Prize, new this year, will give people at home and in the hall the chance to vote for their favourite. Any of the twenty-five competitors will be eligible to win this prize.

5. Two baritones have won the competition.

6. The Masterclasses were introduced in 1993.

7. Anja Harteros will sing the role of Countess in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in autumn 2003.

8. The competition have its own website for the first time in 1999.
