This was your chance to sing to one of the world's greatest performers on the stage of St David's Hall, with the distinguished accompanist Malcolm Martineau. Or you could just listen to a marvellous artist work with talented amateurs - there was no obligation to take part.
All audience members could put their names forward to take part via an entry form and repertoire list sent out with the tickets.
The names went into a hat and Barbara picked participants at random who were then be asked to come up onstage and perform their chosen piece.
The Masterclass participants must not be professional or semi-professional singers or studying singing full time.
The Amateur Masterclass took place in St David's Hall on Friday 27 June.
The event will be recorded for television and broadcast on BBC Four on Saturday 15 November at 7.30pm, repeated late that night, at 1.55am.
You may have seen Barbara Bonney's Amateur Masterclass broadcast from Bath in February 2003. After the event, she took part in an internet webchat - read the transcript.
