Title

Environmental health officers cover four main areas:

  • food control
  • health and safety at work
  • housing
  • pollution or environmental protection

The work requires investigative and decision-making abilities. A high level of scientific and technical understanding is necessary.

Environmental health officers take an accredited three-year degree course. The minimum requirement is two to three A-levels, one of which in must be in a science subject. If someone has taken a degree in biology, physics, chemistry or biochemistry etc, it is possible to study a postgraduate degree.
