My child is 'on report'

Q: My child has been put 'on report'. What's this for?

A: If you're in doubt about why a punishment or sanction has been imposed on your child, contact the school. Usually, a child is put 'on report' after a number of adverse comments have been made about their behaviour in lessons, the standard of their work or their general conduct during break times. An 'on report' card enables teachers to monitor the pupil's attitude and level of concentration throughout the school day. This is a valuable exercise which can bring home to the pupil the fact that their behaviour is unacceptable, but also provide the school and you with a detailed breakdown of the child's behaviour and attitude, so that weaknesses can be addressed.
