Richard has loved the radio all his life - one way or another. Born in Morriston Hospital and brought up in Llanelli, he says he was fascinated by radio from an early age.
"At school I built and repaired radio sets and listened to them under the blankets at night. I studied science and was all ready to be an engineer when I left school - until I got bitten by the news bug."
The seeds were sown at Llanelli Boys Grammar Technical School where one of the teachers Noel Rees started a school newspaper called the Jester.
"I spent most of my spare time writing and later making Radio Programmes for hospital and college radio. So despite being handy with the soldering iron, I decided I had to try and get journalism out of my system."
"My family thought I was joining a banana boat, but I managed to get my first proper job on the South Wales Argus in Newport and Ebbw Vale. Straight away I knew I was doing the right thing. I loved talking to people and listening to what they had to say - in the street, in council meetings, in bars and pubs or agricultural shows. Then I was offered my first job in radio at a local radio station in Bristol."
Richard worked for many years for BBC Radio news in London, reporting at home and abroad - from Africa to Iran, from Russia to the United States. He worked for The World at One and the Today programme on BBC Radio Four and has presented programmes ranging from Up All Night on BBC Radio Five Live to the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio One.
Richard Evans presented the Radio Wales Phone-In between October 2006 and November 2008.
