Melanie Doel

News reporter Melanie Doel was born in Cardiff in 1956 and educated in Cardiff and Caerphilly. Melanie presents Radio Wales' rural and farming issues series Country Focus, every Sunday at 7.30 AM.

She left school after her A levels to work on the Merthyr Express newspaper and worked on various newspapers in South Wales as a reporter, before joining BBC Wales in 1983.

She's worked as a presenter on Good Morning Wales, Livetime, Health Matters, Country Focus, Eye On Wales and Week In Week Out.

Melanie also launched and presented BBC Wales' first environmental programme and produced features for BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour and You And Yours.

During a special week of programming on Radio Wales to celebrate the life of Nye Bevan, Melanie presented daily live broadcasts from a local hospital in Hospital Watch.

In addition to Country Focus, Mel also reports for BBC One Wales' flagship evening news programme Wales Today, Radio Wales' Good Morning Wales and Good Evening Wales, plus news bulletins.

Melanie's hobbies include cooking and eating with friends and writing, including a book on Aberfan.
