Alan's now a familar voice on Radio Wales, having broadcast shows on weekdays and weekdays and at all hours day and night. He's now settled into the Evening Show on weeknights - but how did he achieve cult status on Radio Wales?
Joining BBC Wales in 1991, Alan was first a reporter and then a presenter on the Friday night entertainment show Rave, which was broadcast both on Radio Wales and nationally on Radio Five. His co-host was comedian and actor Rob Brydon, and the show ran for three years.
Alan has presented many radio programmes including The Saturday Social, In Concert, I Write The Songs and Sunday Gold, and has been the voice and face of several BBC social action campaigns including The Search and Homelessness Awareness Week.
He's always dabbled in comedy, with shows like Royal Appointment, My Dog's Got No Nose and Ballinger's Bylines. The quizzes he's hosted include Tutti Frutti, Rock Of Ages and Pub Genius.
On TV, Alan presented two series of Don't Look Back on BBC One Wales, and hosted the BBC Wales Arts Awards and presented The Slate.
Alan's also the songwriter and lead singer in the band Butterfly McQueen.
