mousemat: Programme 32

Sunday 13th May at 5.03pm
(repeated Wednesday 16th May at 9.30pm)

mousemat in Colwyn Bay

This week mousemat comes from Colwyn Bay as Adam Walton visits the North Wales Computer Club. The Club, which meets every Tuesday at the Upper Colwyn Bay Community Centre, has been running for over 20 years and it's one of the longest-established computer clubs in Britain. Adam chats to some of the members and finds out what they get up to with their computers - from making DVDs and editing photos to learning Icelandic!

Adam also visits the Computing and IT Department at Llandrillo College to meet lecturer Arfon Edwards. One of the courses Arfon teaches is Web Design and he gives Adam a few top tips on what makes a good website:

  • Plan out the design of your site very carefully. Ask yourself who it's aimed at;
  • Don't over-use hyperlinks. Anybody visiting the site should never be more than three clicks from the information they need;
  • If you're based in Wales, does your site need to be bilingual?
  • Keep it simple!

Adam also pays a visit to Cambrian Photography, North Wales' largest independent photographic retailer, to get some advice on shopping for a digital camera. Paul Davies from Cambrian gives a few useful pointers on choosing a compact camera or a digital SLR. His main tip is not to get too hung up on the number of megapixels - first and foremost make sure that the camera has a good lens.
