Francois Xavier Roth

Mid and North Wales Tour

Updated: 24 October 2008

BBC National Orchestra of Wales visit Aberystwyth, Bangor, Wrexham and Llandudno.

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales, led by their world-renowned Associate Guest Conductor Francois-Xavier Roth, will visit a quartet of venues in Mid and North Wales during November 2008 in Aberystwyth, Bangor, Wrexham and Llandudno.

From Friday 6 November to Sunday 9 November 2008, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales will perform at the four different venues presenting two separate concert programmes.

The programme for Aberystwyth Arts Centre (7:30pm Thursday 6 November 2008) and Prichard Jones Hall, Bangor (7:30pm Friday 7 November 2008) will include Bizet's Symphony in C Major, The Spider's Banquet: symphonic fragments by Roussel and Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn featuring the remarkable and versatile young baritone, Kevin Greenlaw.

At Williams Aston Hall, Wrexham (7:30pm Saturday 8 November 2008) and Venue Cymru, Llandudno, (3:00pm Sunday 9 November 2008) the orchestra will perform Haydn's Symphony No 103 (Drum Roll) and again The Spider's Banquet: symphonic fragments by Roussel.

Written in a month and at the age of 17, Bizet Symphony in C Major is a remarkable work that demonstrates his unique originality as a musician. Roussel's ballet score, The Spider's Banquet, is one of the most dazzling and enjoyable of orchestra showpieces full of fantastical cobwebs and creepy antics.

The concerts will be a great opportunity to see the Orchestra's newly appointed Associate Guest Conductor Francois-Xavier Roth conducting the Orchestra for the first time since his new appointment.

The conductor is delighted with his new appointment and said:

"It is a great privilege and a joy to be appointed Associate Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales; I first conducted the Orchestra three years ago and since then, this orchestra has a special place in my musical life. For sure, it is one of the best orchestras in Europe and I can say that they have an amazing flexibility to play all kinds of repertoires. Baroque, classical, romantic and modern music will be in the programmes I will conduct with them because I know that with this Orchestra nothing is impossible!"

Tickets for the tour are available from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales Audience Line on 0800 052 1812 or from the venue Box Office.
