Meet Thierry Fischer in Cardiff

Updated: 27 August 2006

The season sees Swiss conductor Thierry Fischer taking over the baton in his new role as BBC National Orchestra of Wales' new Principal Conductor.

Audiences in Cardiff will be able to meet and find out more about Thierry Fischer and the music in the concerts he will be conducting throughout the season, in a series of pre-concert talks.

His first concert of four in the season is on 7 October when he will conduct Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphonie and Psaume XLVII by Schmitt.

Thierry Fischer looks forward to the new season:

"I am delighted and proud to have been appointed as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales' new Principal Conductor. Music cannot be separated from my everyday existence - it is a living and breathing element that teaches us about ourselves and gives us energy for what we do in our lives. I hope that the performances we have planned with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales will also bring a sense of energy and stimulation."
