The BBC National Orchestra of Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Francois Xavier Roth as the new Associate Guest Conductor
Born in 1971, Francois Xavier Roth is one of the most charismatic and enterprising conductors of his generation.
He has just been appointed Music Director of the Orchestre Philharmonque de Liege for 3 seasons, from September 2009.
Besides this he is the Associate Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Principal Guest Conductor of the Navarra Symphonic Orchestra (Spain) for the seasons 2008/09 and 2009/10.
He holds special relationships with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble InterContemporain and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales who he has conducted several times each season over a number of years.
Francois Xavier Roth's repertoire is wide ranging from 17th century to contemporary music and encompasses all genres; symphonic, operatic and chamber. In 2003, he founded the innovative orchestra Les Siecles using a large ensemble of instruments from all periods. With Les Siecles, Francois Xavier Roth was awarded a Diapason Decouverte in November 2007 for their cd of Bizet and Chabrier, recorded for Mirare. They have given concerts in France, England, Portugal and Japan and have appeared every week since September 2007 on French National Television (France 2) in the programme "Presto" to popularize classical music.
Future engagements include concerts and opera productions with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the LSO, the Navarra Symphonic Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra of the Hong-Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Kwazulu National philharmonic Orchestra (Durban). the Liege Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Komische Oper Orchestra, the SWR Sinedonie-Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, the ensemble InterContemporain.
Francois Xavier Roth graduated from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique where he studied with Alain Marion and Janos Furst. In October 2000 he was the winner of the Donatella Flick Conductiong Competition in London and became Assistant Conductor of the LSO for 2 years. He also assisted Sir John Eliot Gardiner for a few years on productions of Les Triyens, Benvenuto Cellini, Falstaff.
In 2007, he made his debuts in North America with the LSO, conducting Beethoven 9th Symphony at the Florida International Festival.
Francois Xavier Roth has been invited to conduct the Orchestre de Paris, the National Orchestras of Toulouse, Lyon, Strasbourg and Lille, the Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, the Orchestre Poitou Charentes, the Orchestre d' Auvergne, the Barcelona Symphonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, the Sinfonia Varsovia and the Tokyo Mozart Players.
