Caernarfon's first win of the season was lit up by two special goals by ex-Wrexham and Liverpool star Lee Jones to take his tally to three in two matches, and with notable absentees in defence the result was all the more pleasing for Wayne Phillips' men. Port Talbot contributed fully to this match, including a spectacular strike from Nicky Jones but they had no answer to Jones and Aaron Thomas's pace up front and Caernarfon's resolute defending.
The first goal of the match was scored by the visitors after a quick break downfield following a Caernarfon corner. Nicky Jones took the ball forward, and with the defence outnumbered, rifled an unstoppable shot in to the far top corner from the edge of the box. Caernarfon always looked likely to equalise and they did just that after 20 minutes with the first of Lee Jones's goals - Aaron Thomas chased a long ball from Matthew Dabbs and crossed perfectly from the goal-line to an unmarked Jones who rifled a first time volley into the top corner giving keeper Martin Davies no chance. Caernarfon could have been in front at the break but for the bravery of Davies, saving at the feet of Thomas after he had outpaced the Port Talbot defence, and Lee Jones almost scored his second just before the break but his curling 25-yard effort flew just wide of the far post.
Port Talbot nearly took the lead eight minutes into the second half when Carl Shaw dived in front of Matthew Dabbs to head a long free kick just wide, but Caernarfon moved into the lead after 62 minutes. Dangerous Aaron Thomas ran at the defence down the left wing and squared the ball to Lee Jones. Jones attempted the return pass to Thomas but the ball was deflected goalwards by the defence, forcing Davies to parry the ball across the six-yard box. Thomas pounced on the loose ball to score the easiest of tap-ins. And the game was put beyond Port Talbot's reach on 74 minutes - Martyn Chalk's chipped pass over the defence allowed Lee Jones to steal in once again and lob the onrushing Davies from 18 yards to cap a memorable afternoon for the Canaries.
