The Canaries came away from Richmond Park with all three points which were well earned against an improving Carmarthen Town side who did not look at all like relegation candidates.
James McIlvogue was unlucky so see his effort rebound against the angle after three minutes, while Carmarthen's Nicky Burke saw his effort fly just past the far post as a sweeping move gave him the chance to shoot from the right hand edge of the area. The game lapsed into a scrappy period after that with free kicks spoiling any flow or pattern that either team wished to establish. However, it was one of the best moves of the match that produced Caernarfon's opening goal - Carl Rodgers played a long crossfield ball to Watkin on the right who in turn passed wide to right-back Paul Roberts. Roberts delivered a perfect cross for Rodgers to finish off the move he had started with a bullet header from 12 yards.
Six minutes later the hosts were level. Wayne Phillips failed to clear the edge of the area with his header and the ball dropped to Burke inside the box - Willcock saved his effort well but could only parry the ball into the path of Jon Keaveney who had the easy job of scoring from 6 yards. Caernarfon gave themselves the psychological advantage before the break with their second goal. Dylan Owen found himself in space about 25 yards from goal, unleashed a powerful shot and was delighted as Carmarthen's Lee DeVulgt deflected the ball off his shin past the helpless Tony Pennock.
Carmarthen started the second half on fire. After 47 minutes Keaveney beat Tim Brandreth in the air and his shot was went well wide from 20 yards. But Caernarfon sneaked a third goal in the 52nd minute - an unmarked Tim Brandreth had stayed up after a Caernarfon corner and was in the right place to bring down a Dylan Owen cross from the left to the far post and gleefully slot the ball past Pennock. Caernarfon were under the cosh for the rest of the half and were grateful for bad misses by Keaveny in the main and for some excellent shot stopping by Willcock before Carmarthen were exposed again with seconds to go - impressive Steve Watkin beat the offside trap on the halfway line and ran in on goal, only for him to unselfishly play the ball across to sub Lloyd Roberts, who finished well into the roof of the net from 10 yards.
Caernarfon congratulated themselves on a job well done, especially as the defence now looks to be playing well and absorbing pressure.
