There were dissenting voices heard at The Oval at the end of this match as Caernarfon, who led by a 2-goal margin four times during this match, ended up sharing the points with Nomads who played 75 minutes with only ten men.
Caernarfon started brightly and took the lead when Steve Watkin slotted home a fifteenth minute penalty after Dean Tuft had deliberately handled Calvin Davies's goalbound effort. Tuft was sent off for the offence and Caernarfon looked to have a good chance to go on and win the match. Calvin Davies nearly doubled the Canaries' lead on 20 minutes when he found himself free inside the box, but he powered the effort onto the post. Home spirits were raised further after 24 minutes as they deservedly went two goals up - home debutant Mark Hobson had stayed up after a corner and a cross from the left found him at the far post. With his back to the goal he skilfully lifted the ball over his head and beyond the reach of keeper Jason Turner. Caernarfon are vulnerable after scoring these days, and that weakness was exploited a minute later as Stuart Rain nipped in to score at the near post from a Jon Kenworthy corner from the Nomads left. Nomads were coming back into the match towards half time but Wayne Phillips eased the home supporters worries three minutes before the interval when he was allowed time and space to angle a low drive into the far corner from 25 yards.
Second half performances have been a problem lately at The Oval and this match was no exception. Nomads pulled one back on 51 minutes as slack marking allowed Stuart Rain to head in his second goal from 8 yards as he connected with Andy Griffiths' cross. However, Caernarfon almost immediately restored their 2-goal advantage - Watkin's flick on found Calvin Davies on the edge of the area and after two blocked attempts he finally scored the rebound to make the score 4-2.
Incredibly, only two minutes later (56) the lead was back to one goal - Tommy Mutton picked up the ball on the left hand edge of the box and ghosted past Brandreth. His shot was well saved by Willcock but the rebound was pounced upon by Rain who completed his hat-trick from 6 yards. Both sides' defences now looked ragged and Caernarfon scored their 5th goal after 66 minutes when Calvin Davies blasted the ball past Turner from a tight angle after initial good work by Dylan Owen who had his shot saved. Town fans were hoping that that goal would put any hopes Nomads had of a revival to rest, but it was not to be as straightforward as that.
Five minutes later Mutton again found space on the left and burst into the box unchallenged. He cleverly pulled the ball back to the edge of the area where Gareth Owen was waiting to strike the ball low past Willcock from 18 yards. Home supporters nerves were now being tested to the full and 8 minutes before the end came the equaliser - a long ball from the right wing by Nicky Brookman dropped inside the box and neither defender Paul Roberts or keeper Ian Willcock seemed to take responsibility to nullify the danger, but Stuart Rain saw his chance of a fourth goal and stole in to side-foot the ball past Willcock.
