What ended up as a draw was in fact a game dominated - both in terms of territory and possession - by a Bangor side who ran the game from midfield. In particular the selection decison which saw Clayton Blackmore supplement the middle pairing of Ricky Evans and Owain Jones gave the Blues an edge they held throughout.
Welsh Premier officials asked top ref Ray Ellingham to make the 400-mile round trip from Cardiff to take charge and in the opening ten minutes he might have brandished his yellow plastic as Jarman and French took the man when the ball evaded them. On seven minutes Kenny Burgess raced clear on the right, his cross evaded Marc Lloyd Williams but Lee Hunt made up ground to hook narrowly wide from close in.
The eccentric Baruwa then fumbled a Clayton Blackmore free-kick at his left post which might have been seized upon by a Bangor foot. Barry countered, but current player of the month Chris Short sped in to calmly nod the ball back to Phil Priestley. City won a corner on the right which resulted in noisy penalty appeals from the Farrar End faithful before the powerful Jarman again fouled Lee Hunt whose movement and enthusiasm were unsettling the visiting defence.
On 18 minutes City were ahead as the cumbersome Scott Morgan fouled Lee Hunt in the box. With "Shaker" watching from sidelines, Ricky Evans stepped up to clout the ball past the Nigerian 'keeper hard and low.
However, with City fans still grinning and anticipating a rare win over the Yellow Dragons, the ever dangerous Jamie Moralee pounced on a ball in from the right to rocket a shot past Phil Priestley from 20 yards.
With 25 mins gone Marc Lloyd Williams latched onto a lose ball on the right, brushed his way past Morgan before unleashing a 30-yarder which dipped but cleared the bar with Baruwa beaten. Moments later the big keeper was injured as Kenny Burgess contested a 50-50 ball but struck the man and not the ball.
Again Chris Short defended calmly, alongside him Eifion Jones and Phil Baker were solid and determined, likewise the immensely talented and versatile Aled Rowlands. Clayton Blackmore intercepted a loose pass to send a 25 yard shot on target but Baruwa held cleanly. Phil Priestley was pleased to see Phil Baker clear a dangerous situation in the Bangor box before Cotterrall fired over from the edge of the box.
Then a moment that only Ray Ellingham could explain. Goalkeeper Baruwa gathered the ball to the right of his box, slid out of the area, and then grabbed it again. On standing up he threw the ball out of play to prevent a quick free-kick with Kenny Burgess waiting. With the visiting fans fearing the worst the official opted for a yellow card to the anger of the home contingent demanding red!
The first action of the second period again involved some unpleasant work by the Barry rearguard, notably Gary Lloyd as the yellow-shirted visitors got to terms with the low sun glaring in their faces. Another foul led to an overdue yellow card for Jarman who looked immobile, Clayton Blackmore whizzed in the free-kick from wide on the left which nearly curled inside the far post. Marc Lloyd Williams then picked up a Clayton Blackmore pass inside the box but dragged his shot wide.
That was Jiws' final contribution as he was replaced by Gareth Williams, then Chris Short was cautioned for obstruction in midfield, before Gary Lloyd hit the resulting freekick straight at the alert Phil Priestley.
Former Port Talbot striker Leon Jeanne then replaced French. When Barry threatened Phil Baker was in the right place and made the right decision, showing good balance and positonal sense.
Robust Ricky Evans won the ball on the right edge of the Barry box and lashed a left footer on target but Baruwa held cleanly. Moments later Owain Jones saw the Nigerian scramble his shot away. On 77 mins the eager Simon Davies replaced Clayton Blackmore who had excelled on the left.
Immediately "Shaker" combined with Ricky Evans whose shot went well wide. Ricky Evans and Owain Jones continued their grip on the midfield with the young Bangor lad having his best game since that long injury lay-off.
A counter-attack on the left allowed Gary Lloyd a shot on target which Phil Priestley held easily. On 81 minutes Anthony Fenton went on upfront in place of Kenny Burgess, but it was Eifion Jones who had the crowd gasping with a shot from five yards inside his own half which had Baruwa beaten but unfortunately cleared the cross bar.
The final incident of the match saw Gary Lloyd cautioned for a mid-air collision with Chris Short on the half-way line. The whistle went minutes later, and for the first time in years Blues supporters applauded what was in effect a disappointing draw having dominated the match. But well played!
