Caernarfon deservedly came away from the Runtech Stadium with all three points after a largely lacklustre contest which was spoilt by a succession of passing errors and poor possession play caused mainly by the condition of the pitch and the strong sea breeze.
The first half was a drab affair which saw hardly any goal-mouth action at all. What there was came Caernarfon's way with two wayward chances, the first came from a throw in by Paul Roberts on the right which dropped at the feet of Lloyd Roberts and his shot flew just wide from the edge of the box.
The second chance came seconds before the half-time whistle when McIlvogue turned Lido defender Phil Holmes on the right hand edge of the penalty area, but his powerful shot only found the side netting.
The second half saw Caernarfon play into the wind and they coped better that Lido did during the first half. However, chances were still few and far between for both sides.
Carl Rodgers almost opened Caernarfon's account with 50 minutes gone, picking up a loose ball on the edge of the area, only for Lido keeper Brian Thomas to save brilliantly to his right.
Caernarfon endured two scares in quick succession, the first of which came after 63 minutes when Andrew Pearson found himself free on the far post, but his header from the left wing cross flew wide from six yards. A minute later Pearson turned provider as his cross from the right found the head of Leigh Shrimpton near the penalty spot, but his header also flew wide of the target. Chris Moores came on for Calvin Davies after 79 minutes and he added some more aggression into the Caernarfon attack, shooting well over from 18 yards with virtually his first touch.
However, the vital moment came after 83 minutes when Rodgers picked up the ball on the right, ghosted past Lido's Carl Evans and delivered a pinpoint cross into the six yard area which gave James McIlvogue the chance to score with a diving header. There was no mistaking the delight of the players and the fans at the final whistle and the result more than made up for recent poor performances.
