Voice Trails is a scheme to enable blind people to get out into the countryside and enjoy a walk in the company of an experienced guide. Here's what some walkers on a visit to The Spinnies, near Bangor, thought of this new venture.
Heulwen Dickenson from Amlwch: This is the first time I've been to this area after hearing so much about it and it was great to have someone guide us round the trail - not only to tell us things, but also to pick up a flower and pass it round for everyone to touch and smell.
We went on the guided walk in Dolwyddelan a few weeks ago. That was a bit longer - six or seven miles, often up steep mountain paths. It was a gorgeous place, but almost impossible to reach by public transport, so having someone pick us up from Bangor was good. I also really appreciate having an experienced guide when going on a walk like that because they can point out things that not even a sighted friend would necessarily know about.
It's easier to come on a walk like this during the school holidays because we don't have to rush home to be with the children after school - they can come with us. As neither my husband nor I drive, they've been used to walking everywhere since they were little so they're happy to come on long walks with us.
