My Dad, Bob Jones, was born in Betws and we lived as a family there for a period of time having bought a guest house. I'm on my way there tonight for Easter and I think it's a great place for the people, the scenery, the smell (firs and slate) - can't beat it!

The suspension bridge (Picture 9) is known as the Sappers bridge. It was built in the 1930s, to replace an older, wooden bridge which was washed away in storms. Sapper is an old military term for an artillery man I think. It’s called that because the bridge was first built by army personnel to link the town with the army camp over the other side of the river.
