I was first given lots of old photos by Thomas Jones, a chemist from Tywyn, in 1979. And now it's a drug - I've got to carry on collecting. I've now got thousands!
We have an exhibition of old photos in the Tywyn Scout Hut each August. It's really popular.
Tywyn and the surrounding area was mostly owned by the Corbett family. Then, a Mr John Corbet bought the estate - they weren't related. Both families lived in the Ynysmaengwyn mansion, which is now a caravan park.
By the 1830s Tywyn and Aberdyfi were both beginning to be popular tourist resorts, especially for rich people coming to build large houses here.
John Corbet put Tywyn on the map. Why he did it, I don't know. To make money I suppose, because when he died in 1901 he left over a million.
Tywyn hasn't changed so much architecturally during my lifetime, but the people have changed a great deal. I've lived here all my life but there are so many here I just don't know. You go into the post office or doctor's surgery and don't know anyone anymore.

I remember Margot Knight nee Stanworth very well. My sister Eluned and I used to live across the road from her in Electricity House. We often talk about her and remember the good times when we were young. Eluned now lives in Barrow after living in Surrey for years,I live with my husband John in Croft Warrington.

I enjoyed this piece by Mike Rickard and would like to know more about John Corbett's time in Towyn as I am researching his life and his house in Worcestershire. Are there are any photographs I could buy? Or history of the house where he lived? Thank you very much, a contact address/e-mail with Mike Rickard would be really great.

My family were from Penllyn farm. My father Dei was a bomber pilot in the war and I have his war diaries. Much of the info relates to people and places of Tywyn in the 40/50s.
