I live in 6 Tyn y Winllan, the house where Mary Jones used to live. She was the girl who walked from Llanfihangel y Pennant, near Tywyn, to Bala, all the way across the mountains, to get a Welsh Bible.
Back in the 1800s there weren't many Welsh Bibles around and so she went to Thomas Charles, the rector of the church in Bala, to get one.
Our house is where she went to live after getting married, in 1860. The house is now a grade II listed building, which is quite a lot of responsibility actually. There are a lot of restrictions - we can't change how it looks from the outside, no double glazing and we had to be very careful re-slating the roof.
My mother-in-law ran this house as a bed and breakfast for years and we've got a visitors book dating back to 1961. Many Bible societies have come to visit, and we still get people coming in to have a look round.
There's a monument of Mary Jones in her home village, on ground bought by the Bible Society for £1 and she's buried in Bryncrug.

I took this religious walk in the hopes of following the footsteps of my idol, the ever-biblical Mary Jones. I took my bible with me, and would like to thank Mary Jones, who should be an inspiration to us all.
