I'm pleased to hear that K.M.P. has not been "swallowed up" by Arriva, but has merged with Padarn (another great local service). Unfortunately, the news was not so good about Purple of Bethesda, who I understand sold out to Crosville. For around 30 years I used to take my holiday in this area of North Wales and always used the bus. But now, unfortunately, advancing years and health problems mean that I have not been able to do so for about 14 years. But I have many happy memories and still hope to return one day.

In response to comment from "bus driver, Colwyn Bay," I am totally stunned at his statement that "waiting for passengers to sit down is not a problem". May I suggest you and your colleagues took a proper look at the law. You are obliged to ensure your passengers' safety from the time they board your bus until the time they get off. If any injury happens to any passenger as a result of a bus driver failing to ensure the passenger is seated safely, or during the journey as a result of the driver's actions or failings, the driver is liable for the accident, and action relating to driving without reasonable consideration. You're not doing a passenger a favour, it's a legal requirement. (Like not driving on the footpath while queueing to enter the Llandudno bus depot, offences seen every morning after school runs but never dealt with by the police or council.)

I'm pleased to see that KMP has not been swallowed up by Arriva (or any other of the big groups), but has merged with neighbouring Padarnbus. The founder can now enjoy a well-earned retirement after many years of running a first class business. North West Wales has been a stronghold of smaller, privately owned bus services since long before Crosville (the predecessor of Arriva) came on the scene and long may it be so - who knows better the needs of a local community then members of it?

KMP is one of the companies that came into existance after deregulation of public transport. I was sorry to hear that they have been forced out by the big boys. How many other small local operators have met the same fate? One of the pleasures of visiting other parts of the UK was to see the local buses in their many different liveries. In many cases they were part of the big bus groups, but retained their local identities. Now everywhere you go all buses look the same. Arriva, Firstbus or Stagecoach. And they don't run for the benifit of pasengers. All they want is profit for their shareholders.

I use the bus system a fair amount and I am always consciously polite and friendly to bus drivers, but nothing annoys me more than getting on a bus to be greeted like I'm no more than cattle. I'd say there are about four nice drivers in my town's depot - most/all of the others are rude and abrupt and should probably take some of their own advice - especially the ones that like to drive past the stop when I'm stood 10 metres away and waving my hand like a maniac.

I was quite gutted that Arriva had taken over KMP and thought why couldnt i be the other way around! KMP buses were more comfertable , cleaner and friendlier drivers! Arriva only took them over because they came before their buses and where cheaper!

i have worked as a bus driver for many years - i am one of the helpful ones who will wait for you to sit down and try and help with any question you may have. but as i have read what has been said i do agree with quite a lot of you. But please remember: I will drive past any stop where their are passengers and no one puts their hand out because it takes time to stop when no one gets on. if you are paying for a low fare with a £20 note i will only give you a change ticket where you have to go to the depot to get your change because i dont carry a lot of change .

waiting for passengers to sit down is not a problem but it is when they stand their to talk to a friend and start moaning when you start driving. having ago at the driver because the bus in front never turned up, but how does the driver know what the bus in front is doing when he /she will be at leaste 10 min behind; a driver can only see the same as you so have no idea whats going on. treat the drivers with respect and you will find the drivers will treat you the same. most drivers are moody because some many passengers had already had a go at them.

Gripes about Arriva! Sorry, but buses are late because of traffic conditions or roadworks or things out of our control, such as breakdowns. We have strict deadlines to meet and it is not in our interest to be late as we have another trip usually straight afterwards. We cannot leave early as we are computer monitored and face disciplinary action if we do. It does help to hail the bus down or wave it on if you do not want it, as most people waiting at bus stops are waiting for car lifts and not the bus! When you ask them if they want the bus they look at you stupid! There are rude and ignorant drivers just as there are passengers! A 'please' or 'thank you' or 'hello' make the start of the journey a lot better for both parties!
