Menai Bridge Mainland

Overlooking the beer garden of the Antelope pub, this camera is located on the roundabout on the south-east side of the Menai Suspension Bridge on the A487.

NB: Some of the cameras may be out of order for a few weeks while work is done by the operators.

Like Michael Of Indiana I check this cam almost every day but when we went to Ireland recently we made a point of using this wonderful bridge - both ways.

No matter what, I always check the traffic cams. originally from Bangor, I can still feel connected after all the years I have been away. also when they give us a different view makes for a great change ... Thanks again Hwyl

If it were not for the webcam I would not have spent a very enjoyable evening in the Antelope eating my half roast chicken with mash and veg accompanied by a pint of Guinness while overlooking Thomas Telford's Bridge.

Hiraeth, many a time we used to venture down through the Blue Belle woods to play on the rocky shoreline under the arches of the bridge. I can remember being fascinated and also scared of all the jelly fish marooned as the tide ebbed and flowed. I can also remember exploring a tunnel nearby which went deep into the land towards Bangor from a point below this road? Shon would probably remember! Then, growing up, setting up a tripod and taking night pictures of the traffic with my OM20.Why is it we always remember the good times? If only I could find employment in the area I would be back in a flash. A wonderful picturesque part of the world in which to grow up."Uchel gaer uwch y weilgi"

My dear late mother was from Sir Fon (Llangoed)& my aunt still lives there.Mam`s face would light up as soon as she saw "Croeso y Sir Fon"-she knew she was home. I may be a "half-breed"but my heart is in Wales & nothing pleases me more than to see the boys thrash the English at Rugby.

We used to swim from the Caernarfon side of the strait under the bridge to Manai Bridge as part of our dive training with the British Sub Aqua club in the early seventies. Had a few dives there as well. Quite a few pints in the Antelope after.

I have dear friends on both sides of this magnificent bridge. In my many visits to Bangor and Menai Bridge I have walked across the bridge and enjoyed marvelous views. I look forward to another visit this year. There's no place on earth better, and no better time to be had than sharing fresh pints with good friends in the great pubs of Wales.

I agree with Alfred Deran of Anglesey. As these so-called traffic cams have such a pitiful refresh rate, it's no wonder the traffic authority shuts them down. It'd be far better if the BBC or private enterprise (e.g. The Antelope itself) took over this one in the name of tourism. I'm sure all'd love to see the whole sweep of this superb bridge. BBC, please post up contact details of The Antelope.

Darren-Wynne, Anglesey. Of course, these cameras are not BBC cameras for tourists. They are Police cameras for road observation and safety, hence the site at Menai Bridge is on a dangerous corner where motorists cannot be trusted to slow down. The BBC has been kindly granted permission to share them with the public. There were a lot more, right up almost to Chester but these are no longer shown. Ewloe was an interesting one but now no longer shown.

Pity the cam shows such a tiny snippet of this superb, monumental bridge. As the image refresh rate is so slow, it does not even indicate traffic flow, or lack thereof. BBC, please ask those responsible to consider a bias towards tourism, showing the grandeur of the whole panorama, Strait and all, and a faster refresh.
