Rhos on Sea
Last updated: 27 November 2005
The attractive resort and harbour is squeezed in between the larger seaside towns of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay.
Strong rips exist all along this break and it's well known for it's quality left hander that can be produced on bigger swells.
It can get really good depending on the winds and South West and North West winds are particularly good here. It's predominantly a reef break/mussel beds at low tide so not for beginners!

Rhos point? You can keep it! If you regard this as a proper surf spot/wave, think again.

Been working on the old hotel site on top of the rock overlooking rhos, seen it firing on big windy days, even though it as been onshore, the waves looked pretty clean, never surfed there but been temted, is it a point round by the harbour.

It's not the first place to check out when you are keen for a surf, but when the conditions are right there is a good wave. i have photos and video proof! its a good wave for us longboarders when it's small or big, it can get rough out there... on higher tides there is a strong current/rips around the boulders and rocks.. but very long waves can be had.. works in summer as well as winter.

You would SO have to be at the right place at the right time to EVER surf Rhos. You've as much chance of a wave there as you have in the paddling pool on Llandudno prom. Incredibly fickle and irregular. You could wait a life time for the right conditions, so don't waste your time, go to Anglesey or Abersoch.

so many people say "this don't work, that always flat" - either they're good surfers trying to keep crowds low or are poor surfers who don't travel further than tv baywatch or to newquay to buy all the gear and go around pubs with stories of getting tubed man!!
the first surf club started here in north wales at sunny Rhyl so think about it for a while have respect for every ripple on the ocean and everyone who has had fun riding waves. swells can come and go with the tide and places change every winter some good some bad. keep checkin them out, you WILL be surprised!
