It depends whether you've been spoilt or not, if you've surfed waves in Maui or some far heavenly place.. then understandably you'll be disappointed, but for those who know how to make the most of what they've got on their doorstep, then - with or without the rain you'll still feel like you're happy to be alive! Anglesey has a lot to offer, even if it's not epic every time.. it's the anticipation, the waves do arrive.

not perfect every time but undoubtably we do live in a beautiful place. So, just learn to appreciate that you're not in a horrible mucky city. This is a perfect place to learn. Anyway! , what I really should say is - it's crap here, now leave the beaches here all to me : ) peace / out

Rob - they are right about the 6 o'clock waves! The seacat heads in and out of holyhead regular as clockwork and I'm assured you can body board or surf the wave for a short while about 15mins after it passes.

The Taylor's/Riley's/Williams'/Adams' - Doncaster,
We've been coming to Church Bay from day dot every single summer! Own a small cottage just a 5 minute walk from the beach. Bring all the kids - cause local mayhem - bbq's on the beach etc and I have to say you could never get bored of it! The "6 oclock waves" are never to be missed! Most days you see some decent surf here as the bay is pretty secluded therefore anything that comes in comes in hard. I would advise you to get to know it and I dont recommend it for beginners or the faint hearted!! Any Church Bay summer regulars

Church Bay is beautiful, I have spent many long sunny days and chilled out evenings with friends there. I think that the surf there is for bodyboarders mainly, heaps of people, young and old alike all rushing in the water for the "6 o'clock waves". People that live there have all done it!!

Dudes - not for the faint hearted, catch the midnight surf (well, nearer 2.00 am)cooool...I'd rather be scared to death than bored to death! and growing old is compulsory, but growing up isnt. Respect. Screaminkiwi.

Dan, Grannys Bay.
Can anyone tell me anything more about the waves created by the seacat as it comes in to Holyhead? Are they of a surfable size? I'd heard about a guy who used to ride the waves it created as it arrived in Ireland, but I have never seen it myself. Is it worth a look?

I live on Anglesey and I know Church Bay (Porth Swtan, N Coast of the island). Just to make this doubly clear - Anglesey is really really bad for surfing, this includes Church Bay. The Lleyn is really the only place that has any swell at all.
