North Wales Tennis have a dedicated development officer who works alongside the councils of Anglesey, Conwy and Gwynedd to promote the game in the region.
There are ten clubs in North West Wales where you can have a go, two of which are specialist tennis centres with indoor courts (so there's no excuse not to practise during our wet winters!). The Lawn Tennis Association website (see External Links, right) has a list of local clubs and centres.
Start young
Pam Alford from North Wales Tennis said:
"The indoor tennis centres in Caernarfon and Colwyn Bay are great places to introduce children from the age of six to tennis. Mini Tennis run the traffic lights system - children start on red and progress to green as their tennis improves.
The junior league is run by the Lawn Tennis Association. Young players compete on weekends between March and August in various categories under 18 years old. The winners of the North Wales league go on to the regional knock-out stage and, if successful, on to the national finals.
Each county has a tennis/racket sports development officer who encourages the sport at school level, organising coaching and competitions."
Senior tennisThe seniors league, organised by Tennis Wales, runs from Easter to August each year. There are two divisions for men and one for women.
Tournaments are arranged by Tennis Wales and the LTA, so keep on eye on their websites for up-to-date information.
The cost of club membership depends on what sort of facilities are available at the club. Prices for adults usually range from £30 and £100 annually, with reductions for children.
