It looks like I'm going to be moving to Bangor for Uni this september and it's depressed me to read some of these comments. I was hoping that I'd be able to become more of an active skateboarder up there but that doesn't appear to be the case. Which is really sad.

Can't help but agree with Gary here, Bangor is never going to be a real city and there's pretty much no chance of getting our own park, but stranger things have happened elsewhere. All it took in my hometown was a few years of moaning at the council and enough busted benches around town to get our own park with public graff walls. You make the petition and we'll sign it! I guess in the meantime I'll see you in Caernarfon, Colwyn or 'Fechan. Peace.

The provisions for skaters/bikers etc. in Bangor is pretty shoddy to be honest. Bearing in mind that Bangor is a city its practically a crime not to have suitable facilities for skaters. I can say with whole honesty, that skateboarding and the culture that surrounds it, does the world of good in the community and certainly keeps teenagers from doing stupid stuff (both to themselves and others). Currently at uni here and its a bit of a shambles really. Living in a town far smaller than Bangor at home, im a 5 minute drive for 7 skateparks, all of which have been built to actually be functional for the end! user (and not a lump of steel the council payed a tonne for due to lack of subject knowledge). There notably wasn't problems of teenage loitoring and drugs/other crimes at home, maybe this is because each park had a thriving community of genuine enthuisasts who were looking to better themselves by means of sport. I would be happy to consult the council on building a park, perhaps a petition needs to be drawn up to see whether a park would be a viable option? Sort it out

I'm in uni here and frankly have nothing to do on weekends/not in lectures. I skateboard and there is nowhere for me to do it. If i do it on the streets i get dirty looks from the locals but i don't care, where else am i supposed to go?

I live in Bangor so i'm always traveling to llanfairfechan and caernarfon to skate the parks because the Bangor locals are really abusive, i have to wait till night to skate empty car parks, and it's constantly raining. But i do understand that councils cannot throughout money for what are essential fad sports.

The parks that have been made throughout north Wales meet most needs, but they have been made without user input, which means less effective parks that are rarely used.

The land for our skatepark is massive. We have enough room to build a full size half pipe, but unfortunately we have a 4ft box jump and two five ft quaters. We also have 2 rails which have been put in places where you can't even get enough speed to get on. We have been begging the council to give us more ramps, but they just say no. It's really annoying.

Midge, Porthmadog
When Tesco was built here in Porthmadog a couple of years back they decided to help the community by giving us a grant and land to build a skate park but the police and council turned it down. Now what's up with that? Also they send us out of our normal street skating spots, but what the hell do they expect if they ain't gonna build us a skate park!

Kev , Llanfairfechan
You should build a small spine at the skate park here as it's only small and there's plenty of space for building.

we have got a skate park down the road at cwm y glo but its too small - it needs more ramps and jumps like caernarfon. there is plenty of space for more i just cant see why not!!!!

Nia, Caernarfon.
Fair play, Caernarfon needed something. Would be a great idea to have one in Bangor though.

Gary, formerly of Bangor
I now live in Colwyn Bay and it has only highlighted to me how poor Bangor is. I could go on for hours about missed opertunities, lack of facilities, local council attitude etc, but I'll stick to the matter in hand, skateparks. The only thing i can suggest is for those of you who aren't old enough to drive yet, hold tight till your 17, or get the bus or train to C'bay or Warrington. Warrington has a park with bowls and everythin'. I'm 34, an old skool skater, dogtown decks etc and love pool ridin, not so hot on ramps an rails etc. But as for Bangor, it's a lost cause. Forget about this lonely one horse town and move on, it'll drag you down if you stay there. Bangor has been on a steady decline for years and will keep going until it reaches rock bottom. As someone said: "It's not the end of the world, but you can see it from there."
